Will this remove epoxy from a garage floor?
Asked by: TN
According to the manufacturer, yes. Personally, I have not had good success with this formulation, KLEEN STRIP offers a money back guarantee so why not pick up a quart and give it a try. A word of caution: this product is extremely flammable and its vapors are explosive. Since coating a floor with release a great deal of vapor, use ONLY IN WELL VENTILATED AREAS!

The directions for use are clear and easily followed. It can be used to multiple surfaces. I plan to use the stripper on an antique secretary desk that had been my mother's. It had been refinished twice - once in the '70s when "antiquing" was popular. Then in the 1990's it was redone (without stripping) with enamel paint. I tried some of the stripper on a drawer and it easily took off both layers. As soon as we get more than one day with good weather, I plan to take all of the desk ( large drawers, inner drawers, and cubby doors) out on my deck. In the open, I will strip the whole desk. I think this time I will repaint it with the chalky craft paint that is currently popular. PS An interesting side episode - although it was refinished in the 1970's and again in the 1990's - a cancelled check written by my mother in 1967 was dislodged by some petty thieves who robbed my house in 2013! The check must have been stuck on the inside top of one of the inner drawers. The check was not discovered in all that time.

Fifteen years ago I used gallons of this brand of stripper on projects and the old formula performed excellent - NOT SO for this new, improved formula. I know that they removed the MEK but what other stripping agents did they remove? I used this new formula to strip worn varnish from some 100 year old chairs - it took three applications to get most of the varnish off. If I was using the old formula from 15 years ago the fumes would have stripped this varnish. I will buy another brand for the next stripping project.

This paint, polyurethane, and epoxy stripper by industry leading KLEAN-STRIP works with about the same effectiveness as any other non-methylene chloride strippers I have ever used. Compared to formations of paint removers with methylene chloride I have used in the past, the results are middling at best. The manufacturer claims this thick, brush-on liquid stripper will remove multiple coats of latex paint after waiting 15 minutes after applying a heavy coat to wood and metal surfaces. You have to wait 45 minutes for oil painted finishes. My experience was quite different. After applying according to label instructions and waiting the prescribed time for the product to work, I was able to scrape 2-3 coats of latex paint and barely 2 coats of oil paint from various surfaces. I have used methylene chloride formulations for many years with much greater success. Although methylene chloride has purportedly has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals, used correctly with the proper safe guards, it makes for an excellent paint stripper. It has the added benefit of being non-flammable. This non-methylene chloride product is extremely flammable and as such it is recommend for use only outdoors. I think that the average homeowner who needs to remove the finish from a small piece of furniture or even some small metal items will get satisfactory results with this KLEEN-STRIP paint remover. Just don’t expect to strip a large deck or a bunch of doors and be happy while doing so.

Paint stripper Very good product to use on getting off multi paint layers of major amount of paint off the item. You use very much like a paint, brush it on wait 15 minutes scrape and if need it repeat. I used old socks and found they worked well. I also purchased a chemical resistant rubber gloves. I use this product on electrical box cower that previous owner paint so many time that door didn’t want to close. Since this is an apartment the cower head at least 15 layers of paint and I have to do two time and it went all the way to the bare metal. I wipe the metal with acetone and use the grey spray paint and it looks like new.

It's about 10 years old and does not weather well. About 4 years ago I refinished it, but over the past years, the varnish coating began to peel and chip. I was just about to throw it in the trash, but decided to try and refinish it one more time. I didn't want to spend a lot of time sanding it down, so I used this stripper - which worked great. Applied a generous coat to each half of the table and then waited for it to do its work (about 20 minutes). Odor is there, but not super strong. I then used a paint scraper to remove all the old varnish rather easily. There were some areas where I needed to reapply, but overall this product did the trick- without harming the wood! After a quick rinse and dry, then a light sanding, I coated with a stain/sealer. The table looks almost like brand new. Glad I didn't have to use heavy sanding as it makes a dust mess and is labor intensive. Tip: I'd recommend not using this in direct sunlight or hot weather, as it dries quickly. Also, you must apply it generously to the surface with a rather thick coat for best results.

I used this to strip the paint off a pair of vintage motorcycle rocker box covers that had been spray painted with "High-heat engine Paint" right over the chrome.....yeah, wasn't me. This product work very well. I poured some on and brushed it around and let it sit for a an hour, came back and the paint was all bubbled up. All it took was a rag and a small scraper to wipe the paint off. I did need a second coat to get all those angled spaced that I didn't do heavy enough the first time. It worked great!

The furniture in my bedroom is either white or white washed. My intention was just to paint the bench but after looking closely at the finish it was obvious it was going to have to be stripped first. First, you want to gather all your materials before beginning. This includes a container to pour the stripper in (they recommend metal but I used glass), a cheap brush to apply the stripper, a plastic scraper blade for removing the stripper, gloves, eye protection, and a cleaner to use after scraping off the old finish. It was hard for me to determine what kind of finish was on the bench but it appears to have been recently coated in gel stain. Whatever it was, this stripper dissolved all of it. I started with a thick coat that I allowed to sit for 15 minutes. What I saw underneath after scraping off the stripper was simply amazing. I did use a second coat just to make sure I had removed all of the finish. I finished this off by dipping fine steel wool in Klean Strip odorless mineral spirits and gently wiping down the areas. You must use in a well ventilated area because the fumes are a bit harsh in a closed environment. Even if working in the garage, like I did, I recommend opening the door. Also, YOU MUST WEAR CHEMICAL GLOVES. I started out just using my yellow kitchen gloves but after a few minutes the stripper ate right through them. Please use the right type of glove so that you do not burn your skin. All in all I am very pleased with the results I got using the stripper. I will definitely be using this in any refinishing products I have in the future.

I read the instructions on the can, put the work on several layers of newspaper and shook the can vigorously for a full minute. I poured what I guessed I would need in a cleaned out tomato can, brushed a pretty uniform layer of stripper on the painted surface and checked the time. I waited just 15 minutes and tried using the scraper. The paint came off easily to bare wood in gooey globs with just a trace of residue remaining in the grain. I rubbed the surface with a cleanup pad and the paint was gone. I wiped the surface and cleaned up the scraper with mineral spirits. I just wish this stripper could be used to remove paint from a fiberglass boat bottom.

I used it to remove the finish on our kitchen table where some parts of the finish had wore off over time. This product is really powerful, in about 15 minutes it had turned the polyurethane finish into a jell like substance that I used a plastic scrapper to push it off with. Because it has a semi-paste formula it is brushable and clings to vertical surfaces without running. It did not harm the surface of the wood and also did not raise the wood grain surface. The documentation says it is safe to use on most wood, metal and masonry surfaces. I agree with that and will be using it on several other things that need to be stripped.

I tested this on our old steel door, where I used a thick coated, the paint removed very easily after just 5 minutes. The door was sitting directly in the sun so the paint remover dried too fast, the sections that dried did not remove very easily as you can see in the pictures. Lesson learned is to ensure you apply the paint remover thick and tried not to be in the direct south Texas sun. I tried it on stained old wood, did not remove with a towel, you would need to use a wire brush. One last tip, this has a very strong odor and must be used outside or in a very ventilated area. Would recommend this paint remover.
