Fish tape
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this fish tape. Because of its size and mobility. It is small and light. Allowing me to carry it in confined spaces and with little mobility.

Great quality!
I bought this over another store brand and I'm really glad I did. I needed it for a particular residential wiring job for a terrace. Now, I use it for every single job that requires any amount of wire pulling. It comes very well lubricated from the "box" and is basically effortless to use.

After years of borrowing my father-in-law’s fish tape, I finally got one for myself. I have to admit; when this arrived I was shocked at the size of it. It is much larger than the one I’ve been borrowing – obviously his is much shorter. This tool is clearly well made and easy to use. It winds and unwinds nicely. I’m very happy to add it to my tool chest and fully expect to be using this for many years to come.

all I can say is we got the job done. we had a pull of about 65 feet we used twine when we put in the conduit when tried to pull the 60 amp 4 wire cable for a RV plug it broke, then we asked a electrician what we should do and he said try a ribbon cord and that didn't work so when I got this 100 foot steel fish tape from home depot it was a breeze we slid the tape in easily and pulled the big cable through with no problem very strong steel fish tape only way to go it works great for light duty jobs also.

I got this Klein Tools 100 ft. High Strength Steel Fish Tape after I broke the end off of my smaller, off brand fish tape. It really was time to step up to Klein. I have a corded fish tape and a rodder but I find that the steel tape works the best with long lengths, especially when the lengths involve angles and curves. This new Klein has that nice curved, steel end that I have had the best results using in the past both when routing the Steel Tape into the conduit to the wire and when pulling wire back through the conduit. It just seems to handle sharp angles better than other styles, and as the instructions on the inside of the packaging indicate, taping is not necessary. My latest project involved repairing damaged wiring that occurred when a tree fell on my greenhouse. The project involved working with a short section of damaged conduit, but the conduit was too long to fish wire through without an aid. There was only one sharp angle so it really wasn‘t much of a challenge for the Klein Steel Fish Tape. I’m happy with this Klein Steel Fish Tape. It is so much better in quality than the fish tape I worked with in the past. I’m happy to have taken the Klein step.

This made in the USA professional high strength steel fish tape glides between surfaces offering effective pushing and pulling of wire through conduit runs, under carpets, through insulated walls and over suspended ceilings, just to name a few applications. The permanent, laser etched, 1 foot increments on the tape allow accurate measure of depth of conduit runs and the amount of tape left to play out. The raised finger grips on the polypropylene case and handle help transfer the winding power from you hand and fingers.

The Klein (56006) steel 100’ by 1/4” wide by 1/16 thick (incorrectly listed as 1/8” wide on the label) fish tape with one foot descending laser markings is not a toy. It pushed easily through blown-in insulation. It was, however, a chore to rewind. I found it easier to rewind holding the tape against my stomach while turning the orange reel with a hand over hand motion. Towards the middle and end of rewinding I then found it easier to use the black handle to pull the tape in, while holding the orange reel stationary – increased leverage.
The reasoning for having descending foot markings on the tape is to know how much tape is left after repairing a broken tip. The tape is only marked down to 5ft. – not sure why? A longer length good quality fish tape is expensive, as is this one.
From the Klein Site: “Klein Tools introduces a new line of 14 Fish Tapes under the Depthfinder™ and Navigator™ names. Depthfinder™ Fish Tapes feature high strength flat steel for pushing and pulling wire and Navigator™ Fish Tapes are designed to be extremely flexible for moving through conduit runs with multiple bends. The length of the new Tapes range from 25’ – 240,’ and are available in the most commonly used materials – Steel, Stainless Steel, Spiral Wound, Nylon and Fiberglass.
A true category innovation found on all Depthfinder™ flat steel tapes is an exclusive time and effort saving feature – permanent laser-etched markings every one foot on the entire length of the tape. "Tradesmen interviewed acknowledged high value in the concept of ‘length-marking’ a Fish Tape. The markings could be used to measure conduit runs, locate stops, or tell them how much tape remains on their reels," said Vince Kendzierski, product manager, Klein Tools. Using an exclusive manufacturing process, Klein developed a way to add marks to a flat steel Fish Tape that will never wear off. "The goal for Depthfinder™ was to make the marks permanent without compromising the steel strength, so we used a laser that changes the color of the steel surface. The tapes are marked in descending numerical order so if a portion of it is ever cut off, you can immediately see how much remains on the reel."
In addition to length marking, Klein focused their development on end user comfort and reducing jobsite effort. The 9" and 13" diameter Fish Tapes feature a unique sloped handle to optimize hand positioning for quick hand-over-hand rewinds. The cases feature raised fingergrips for a secure grip and a round inner ring design to provide a smooth and consistent surface for rewinding. To reduce effort on the job, these tapes are 1’’ larger than the industry standard, meaning up to 15% more tape can be wound with each revolution.
In terms of durability, this new product line is among the Industry’s toughest. "We experienced excellent results across the entire Fish Tape line when dropping the tapes repeatedly from a 25’ height," said Kendzierski. In-house lab testing showed that all sizes of Klein Fish Tapes remained fully functional after 20 drops from this height.”
Negative: A chore to rewind when fully extended. I guess that is what apprentices are for?

Only issue is perfect for wiring, but there is only a hole at the end, you have to tape anything else that won't fit in the hole. Other than that, the size and maneuverability is outstanding.
