Electrician's Multi-Tool

The electricians multi-tool lacks basic ergonomics. It is very large for the extra tools that are intagrated. Until they reduce the size, consider ergos and spend more time trying to produce a tool that comines fit and function I would not waste your money. This new Klein 7-1 sparky multi tool is a must need. The wire strippers and wire cutters work great. The mini linemans are perfect for splicing 3-4 wires. The Philip's and Straight screw drivers are a big help too... plus it comes with a nice pull out knife!

Klein has sent me this tool to test, under the crusader program. If I leave an honest review I may receive further incentives. This tool is amazingly handy. I work as a maintenance electrician. Sometimes I may jump out the truck and forget to grab a tool, well for a good majority of my calls is an easy task that this tool can do all In one. Instead of walking all the way back to the truck. This tool strips, twist, and cuts wire. It has a philips head and flat blade screwdriver. It has a locking knife. And just like an old swiss army knife it has tweezers. I am thoroughly impressed with it so far. #kleincrusaders #kleintools

I've used six of the seven functions. Fortunately, I haven't yet needed to use the tweezers to extract a metal splinter. The stainless steel knife is easy to open and very sharp. Being able to open it without opening the entire tool is convenient. The slotted screwdriver is acceptable but the #2 Phillips is sometimes too large for tightening/loosening screws on wall switches and grounding screws. The wire stripper is passable but won't strip wires smaller than AWG 16. The pliers have worked well for me, principally for twisting and bending wires. The tool has some shortcomings. It's bulky and it's heavy. It's considerably larger than a true pocket multi-tool (see photo) at 4.5" long x 0.75" wide x 1.75" tall. It weights in at about 12 ounces, so if you do put it in your pocket you won't forget it's there. It comes without a carrying case, so if you want to carry it on your belt you'll need to get one. Now I can carry one tool that will do the work of seven – and this tool is solidly built! I first saw an electrician’s multitool, just like this one, on the TV show “Ask This Old House” when it was recommended by the show’s electrician. He said that basically he can do most of the necessary electrical work with this one tool. That sold me. Especially because I find myself constantly having to interrupt my electrical work to grab and switch tools. I like the design a lot. Open the tool handles and you’ll have access to the pliers, three different sized notches for stripping wires (for both stranded and solid wire) and wire cutters. In the closed position, you have access to a full-size knife and it’s closing mechanism. Swing open one of the handles and you have access to both a Phillips and slotted screwdriver. And finally, inside one of the handles is a metal tweezer. I found switching back and forth among the different tools easy, simple and quick. Going forward, this will be my all-in-one electrical tool and I'm looking forward to using it on my upcoming electrical work. I couldn't be happier with this product.

Initial viewing: The packaging is clean and informative, showing all of the seven tools, featured in the tool. The back of the package highlights the tools and lists the range of wiring that the tool can be used on along with the sizes of the screwdrivers. Also pointed out on the back, is the fact that the blade locks in place. Inspection: The pliers are well machined, so there isn’t any kind of wobble in the hinge that would result in the sides of the nose becoming misaligned. The ridges in the nose, the wire stripper and the wire cutter, are well defined and perform like you want them to. It should be noted here, that the pliers are not needle nose so bending wires or getting into tight spaces could become a little tricky. Another thing to make note of, is that this is a metal handled tool, so make SURE the electrical lines are dead. The knife is nicely honed, and with a little bit of an extra pull, when opening it, locks it in place. The screwdrivers are made with a good hard metal, well machined and lock securely in place. Testing: I used the tool while replacing a 3 light T12 fluorescent fixture, with a 4’ LED strip light. The fluorescent light was hung, using chains, so I used the tool’s Phillips screw driver to obtain the leverage needed to unscrew the mounting hooks. (Not it’s designed purpose, so one heck of a test) On the new light, I used the pliers and flat screw driver to remove the knockout at the end of the fixture, so I could run the power cord thru. I then used the wire cutter and 12 AWG stranded stripper to attach the power cable to the fixture. To hang the light, I used the Phillips screw driver to, at first, partially drive the two number 8 screws into the 2 x 4 ceiling mount, and then fully tighten them down, once the fixture was in place. Summary: It performed every task I utilized it for without any kind of problem, and without kind of wear on the tools. I under normal circumstances (i.e. not testing the tool) I would have used a power screwdriver for mounting the unit, but the fact that I did use it, without any kind of strain or stripping the screws, attests to the quality of the tool. That along with the ease with which it cut and striped the wiring only speaks all the more about how good the tool is. Over all the materials used to construct the tool should make it a long lasting durable addition to a tool box.

Electrician's Multi-Tool is a must have for the DIYer tool box not only as an electricians tool for wire stripping but also as a general all-purpose tool. It incorporates a sturdy pair of pliers, a #2 Phillips head screwdriver, a 3/16 Slotted screwdriver, a very sharp knife and a small tweezers. Included with the pliers is a wire cutter along with both solid and stranded wire strippers for 10, 12, 14 AWG and 12, 14, 16 AWG respectively. This tool is very solidly built with high quality materials and craftsmanship which folds into a very compact pocket tool. Recommended.

If you do electrical wiring work and want to lighten your tool pouch pick up a Klein Tools Electricians Multi-tool. I like that I don’t have to open the tool to get to the slotted and Phillips screwdrivers. To me, the knife blade is over sized but it is easy to open and close and latches firmly. The tweezers are also a nice touch and accessible without opening the tool. When you open the tool, you’ll find a wire cutter, 3 stripping notches for solid and stranded wire and a knurled plyer nose made for twisting wires together for a wire nut. The tool is perfect for most house hold wiring jobs. The tool is a little pricey just for the convenience of a single tool to do electrical work but it should last a life time if purchased. I have only had the tool for a week but would recommend it for a home owner or maintenance electrician.

i have a lot of multi-tools & knifes & the multi 1's are leather man 1's but i also have klien tools 2 but my leather man's i have are DIY act i'm really want & don't want 2 get a wave+ because that multi 1 is in that act but i looked that up & found out that multi is 99$ so instead i decided 2 $ this klien .

Working in the Electrical and Automation Maintenance field, carrying 12 pounds of tools to an area has been tedious to say the least. Since LOTO is mandatory working live is now paperwork, and the only reason to lug those tools, in other words it's hit the fan. This is a God send. Even when I do have my tools, underneath a conveyor instead of reaching for my bag I find myself reaching for my hip and this tool. Sturdy, it weighs heavy, but it's not pulling my arm out of socket or getting caught on something. My mechanical partner has even left something behind of his because it fell out in his bicycle basket, and climbing 4 ladders down was time consuming. We fixed both the mechanical and electrical issue to a standard better than before with this thing. I am not paid, I am getting old, the less I lug around the less I HURT. The faster I can get back to my regular duties, the more happier production is. This even has helped around the house for honey do's. It's not a fix all, it has weight, it's sturdy, I like it, that's not you I know. For the price and usefulness to me and what I do, perfect. I do recommend this product, it fits with all Kleins all in ones.
