No more moist wood
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Need to keep my wood dry and klien got my back. I build cabinets and this lets me monitor the moisture content in the wood, and it works great.

Does the job very well, compared to more expensive models. My remediation service had one that cost a lot more and we had the same readings.

Here is a product that lives up to the Klein reputation for quality and utility. This moisture meter measures the moisture in drywall, masonry, softwood and hardwood. I have used it to measure moisture levels after repairing drywall, painting and applying mortar to concrete block. Using the meter to measure the moisture content provided information on when I could apply a second coat of paint, mortar and drywall mud. It has a sturdy outer case and an easy to read clear display. There are three buttons, an on button, a mode button that changes the material to be measured, and a hold button to save readings. The screen measures 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches.

This is a great moisture meter and I find it accurate. It is pinless which avoids the little damage a pinned meter can cause. The settings are great: drywall, masonry, hardwood (oak, maple, etc.) and softwood (pine, poplar, etc.). The moisture meter is very easy to use, I didn't even have to look at the directions. It comes with a 9v battery so you can get it started quickly. You can easily hold a reading too. It measures as accurate as my pinned meter although I find the pine better for some jobs, like inspecting the top of fascia boards under roof shingles. One thing I did find odd with this moisture meter is it considered some moist drywall near a window of mine (@ 25%) as dry. One downside I found to this meter is it does not have a loop/lasso for holding or hanging it in the workshop.

Did not work out of the package
First time use. Installed the battery, pushed the on button, nothing except a beeping sound, screen did not light up. NADA. Going to return it and buy another one to see if this was just a dud but reading the reviews sounds like Home Depot might want to reconsider selling junk.

      Not accurate
Bought this meter to test hardwood slabs that I cut and need to know when they are ready for projects. As soon as I got this meter I tested it on some 2” thick oak slabs that were cut only 8 months ago and got a reading of 2.1. I then tested it on some Elm slabs around 1.5” thick that were cut 2 months ago and got a reading of 2.3 I live in Atlanta, not the desert! There is no way that air dried wood after a a few months are that dry. And yes put the setting on “hardwood”.
