I have put in nine 18 inch drawer slides without soft closing, but the same basic KV slide. Was measuring very carefully, but determined that one of the drawer boxes had a slight bow in the wood, and one opening was narrower in back. Both these installations had the problems you mention. Hard to move the drawer all the way in and in your case the slow closer would also have to overcome the extra drag. I sanded, using really course paper, both drawers to make the slides work. The tolerances for operation are really tiny: 1/16" or plus or minus 1/32" Could be the opposite problem, the drawer is too narrow for the opening, which would also cause a bind. In this case some thin shim might be needed. small piece of plastic?

Why are they limited to 24" wide drawers? I would think it would be more dependent on weight rating than width.

Answer

ep1 - The brackets would need to be purchased separately. The KV part # that contains both the rear brackets and the front brackets is the 8404B KIT. These can be found here at Home Depot.com: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Knape-Vogt-8400-Series-Mounting-Kit-2-Rear-Brackets-and-2-Front-Face-Frame-Brackets-8404B-KIT/305307160

Answer

Gena - From your description it sounds like your cabinet depth is 24" and the drawer is just under 21". The best fit for your application would likely be a 22" slide. It will fit the drawer and still fit the cabinet. This would be model number 8450FMP 22 or you can search Home Depot number 300439622, or just select 22" from the drop down.

The model 8450 (22in) met my needs perfectly. As a DIYer, I had little difficulty upgrading to the soft-close slider. I did need to order the rear bracket to allow for a difference if length (22.5") and provide a rear attachment of the rail. The slider allows the drawer to be completely opened, plus a couple of inches (20" drawer).

They work well but are limited in their pull power on closing. Make sure you have your drawer squared-up and proper spacing on the sides to allow it to close unhindered. If you force these they will break.
