AnswerNo, Koni Brick® may not be used as flooring and is manufactured for wall/vertical installations only. The product is a thin brick veneer with a texture not suitable for foot traffic and will break in time with weight placed on top of it.
are they dark or light gray?

AnswersTo me they are dark grey, almost flat black, actually similar to coal. I put them up around a gas fireplace with white wood trim and mantle. I used matching grout. It came out beautiful. 3 years later and I still receive compliments from guests regularly. Very easy to work with. These are veneers, so expect about 5% broken pieces. Most construction estimates will add about 10% more product then needed to make up for defective pieces or mistakes along the way. You will be pleased with this product, plus it is a great value.
Can these bricks be use to trim out a fireplace in the noncombustible area?

A fair percentage of the bricks were intact when they arrived. You can glue them back together without a problem. These bricks look very nice when finished. I also believe these to be the best bang for your buck in the entire market.
Be prepared to do some work and it's a bit messy putting in the mortar, but the results are extraordinary.
Looking forward to my next brick project with the Koni Old Chicago's.

Looks great... Very Fragile, it comes packed in Styrofoam and labeled FRAGILE, but nothing between the individual pieces, does not look bad if pieces are put back together as pasted on wall. TIP: Tap them with wood very gently they will become strong with mortar behind them.
From 4 boxes: 20 + broken, one box was really bad had more than 9 broken pieces. I guess somebody does not know how to read, and throw them boxes anyway.
TIP 2: If you want tour project to be flawless buy extra 20%.
I can be cut easy with diamond blade, but had to tap the edge to get the finish right.
NOTE: Corners were slightly higher than the brick. measure them before starting.
NOTE2: Snap some lines along your project as these bricks are not the same size. VAR +- .25 in
Filled the gaps with colored mortar (Charcoal) although it also looks good with little or no mortar in the gaps in which case I would have prepared the wall to have color before applying the brick.

While these bricks were not actual clay bricks,(but formed concrete), they have a very real appearance and look wonderful for a faux firebox under our mantle. They were packaged well, double boxed, and only two in the box were cracked.

We love the way this brick turned out. Bricks were easy to install with regular thinset mortar. No need to mortar the walls - just butter back the bricks individually and install. Only difficult part was that each brick was different in size (which looks very nice) making it tough to achieve level and spacing. No one makes 1/2" spacers, so we used regular tile spaces (which are 1/8" thick) and stacked anywhere from 3-5 of them to maintain a level line and consistent spacing. Corners also tended to be slightly taller than the flat bricks so that took some adjusting to keep the rows level. Corners also took extra thinset as the bricks were always thicker on the inside corner. We then used regular Type S mortar and mixed with New Look charcoal cement color (HD Model # CC3LB101) to achieve a black grout. Couldn't be happier with the finished product. My wife and I installed several hundred square feet (about 40 boxes) and set/grouted everything in 4 weekends by ourselves, having never done brick work (although we are experienced DIYers and are finishing the rest of our basement 100% on our own)
