Q:whats the difference and when and what do you want to use coarse and fine on types of wood? thanks

Answer This Question

A:  Coarse screws are for softwoods pine, cedar, fir and plywood. Fine screws are for harder woods like oak, maple and cherry

by|Apr 4, 2021

A:  Thank you for your inquiry. The coarse threads will be used with soft wood and all plywood. The only time you use the fine thread is when the treads are going into hardwood lumber.

      Answer This Question

A:  Just use the fine threaded 3/4 inch screws it will work fine

      by|Feb 18, 2020

A:  Hello, We have a Micro Drill Guide, but the screws that are used in conjunction with the Micro Guide are the pan-head (SPS) screws that have the smaller head so that they will fit in the smaller pocket-hole. If the material is on the thicker side, you may be able to use 1" SPS-F1 screws. However, those may be a little too long, in which case you'll either need to modify the settings or use the shorter SPS-F075's. Thanks!

A:  Thank you for your inquiry. The 3/4" screws are meant to be used with 1/2" material. We do not have a screw that will work with 3/8" material as the minimum thickness pocket holes will work with is 1/2".

I suppose this could be a decent screw, but I wouldn’t label it a pocket hole screw since it’s not long enough for use with any of Kreg’s pocket hole jigs. The thinnest setting for the jig is 1/2” and these screws will only have one or two full threads into the anchor point. If you want to keep your fasteners consistent, use these as ordinary screws for securing 3/8” or less material. If you are using pocket holes use a minimum of 1” screws.

              Small screws but they work
I grabbed these to make a small box for a podium that needed to be lightweight. I used 1/2" plywood and pocket hole joined it using these screws and with some glue, the box has been doing great! I like using Kreg products and so far haven't been disappointed by any of them.
