A: A simple way to determine the swing of your door is to stand in the doorway with your back to the hinges with one foot on either side of the jamb and to swing your arm out in the direction that the door swings or that you wish the door to swing. The arm that doesn't cross the body is the swing of the door. If your right hand swings into the room without crossing your body, that is a right hand inswing. If the door swings out of the room, that is an outswing. (If you are doing a closet door, the closet counts as the room. So most closet door would be an outswing because they can't swing into a closet.)
