I have a Kevo that was a store display but doesnt have a physical key or fob.

It lights up when I touch it. If I buy a fob can I get it to work with the fob and IPhone or do you need a physical key to program it?
Asked by: shumax2
Both iPhone/Android or FOB will need to be programmed too the unit.

Security question , does the Kevo FOB, need to be trained to the lock, or does it work on any Kwikset lock out of the box. How do you protect your lock from being hacked by another Kevo FOB? Thank you
Asked by: qmpa1
All FOB's other than the one that came with the kevo unit need to be programmed too the particular Kevo, as well as 1 FOB can be paired to multiple locks, but with that said, it has to be physically present when programming them too another / alternate lock. There is I believe a propitiatory rolling codes, like in car alarms.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works, but not well I have to say I was very excited to install this product on my front door. I imagined that going from my car, which has hands free locks and ignition, right into my house without needing to reach for my keys would be great. And in concept it is. So now for the actual experience: Installation was easy but time consuming because it still required a bit of trial and error. I think it would be a bit easier if the wires running from the lock to the unit were a bit longer, and the plugs designed a bit smarter for ease of installation. Once done, turning the unit on and calibrating my FOB was pretty easy. Note I decided to use the FOB primarily because Bluetooth drains my phone like crazy, and having the FOB on my key ring isn't a big deal. The biggest issue I have with the lock is quite simply that the FOB & unit just don't work well. Maybe the wireless technology is outdated, or the CPU on the unit just isnt up to the task, but the lock/unlock process often fails inexplicably. I often have to re position myself multiple times, or even take the FOB out of my pocket just to get the lock to read it at all. When it DOES read it, it often takes a good 5 seconds or more of processing before the door will lock or unlock, which is just way too long. What I don't get is that hands-free access isn't a new thing. When I touch the door handle of my car, the locks will lock or unlock IMMEDIATELY, and 100% of the time. I dont need to take my car's FOB out of my pocket, or wait for the car to figure out if it is the correct FOB. Why can't this lock just work like that???? I can also agree with the other user who said the FOB is just too cheaply built to last long. Mine failed after 2 weeks of use. I'm not sure if it just needs a new battery, but I'm afraid that it might really be done for. I didn't even drop it or treat it harshly, so Im confused as to why it failed so easily. It would be nice if there was a "premium" FOB available for us FOB only users, which would be built to more of a car FOB standard. It's a shame because if these items were addressed this would be a 5 start product. Until fixed I simply cant recommend this to other people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very useful! Purchased extra fob to give to my elderly mother in law who lives with us. The fob is perfect for her because she suffers from arthritis and using a key causes her discomfort. Overall, works great and is convenient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ease of use, great battery life, large fob. I bought fobs in case I had guests who did not want to download the app, or have an iphone (there may be android access now though?). Overall the fob seems to be a bit more reliable than when using my iphone app to enter. It picks it up easier and faster. The battery life on it is great, 1 replacement in the past year. The only thing I would change is the size of this fob. It seems pretty large and bulky to me. I would keep it on my keychain full time and skip the phone app, if it was a tiny little fob that wasn't clunking up my key ring. I'm hoping new designs come out, especially different colors for different looks etc. I paid $25 for the fob, I think that's a very fair price for the item, it would have been a determining factor when buying the lock and I saw the fobs were $60, I would have skipped on the lock all together. How about a new slim modern design???

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Kevo Fobs die too quickly I bought a Kevo lock in December 2017, but only since the product literature says it will work with Kevo Fobs ($25 each), and phones are not necessary. My girlfriend and I don't have phones compatible with the lock, so we use the Fobs exclusively. The problem is that the Fobs start experiencing problems a month or two after use starts. The Fobs have a "sleep" mode that they will fall into (to save the battery) after they have not been used for an unspecified period of time, like perhaps a week or two. You push the button on the front to "wake up" the Fob. Ours start falling asleep every day or two, then sooner, then every 10 to 15 minutes. This is with use of 5-10 times per day, so they are not simply timing out. There is nothing wrong with the batteries. I believe there is a design flaw that lets the electronics degrade quickly with use. We have gone through 3 fobs since we installed our lock in January 2018. (It is now May 2018). To be fair, I contacted Kevo customer service each time, and have had all three fobs replaced at no charge. (I think there is a 1 year warranty). On the first call, I was instructed to re-program the lock, and told about the "sleep" feature. It took a lot of patience before I could get the service rep to understand that falling asleep every 15 minutes could not possibly be an intended feature. When the Fobs work, they work great. My advice would be not to rely on the Fobs when you buy a Kevo lock. Use your phone instead, but make really sure you have a Kevo compatible phone
