Questions & Answers

Do you still need a separate door pull to get the pocket door out of the wall or is a pull function included in this?

Asked by: Alison
No, you won't need any extra hardware for the pull. The latch has a spring loaded release. You simply push the latch which releases the latch about 1/2 inch, giving you access to the pull hook. I didn't actually realize how it was going to work until it was finished. This is a very well designed feature.

What additional hardware does this need?

This product takes care of the door portion of the lock but what is needed in the frame for this to lock to? Does it use a standard door strike or is there something else that is needed to securely lock the door to the frame?

Will this door lock fit in-place of an existing door knob/hinged door?

Asked by: vggreen
Yes. I was pleasantly surprised that it fit perfectly in the existing hole. It took me 10 minutes to remove my old door knob and install this new one. This was the best part of the design in my opinion.

I bought a house with these installed in the pocket door, but there's nothing in the doorframe to latch it to. What part does it latch to?
Asked by: Kent
When you buy it new it comes with the female plate that you attach to the doorframe, which needs to be notched out in order for it to fit. We are using it for a wall mount door sliding door that we installed between the sink and toilet area of a bathroom and it works great.

Customer Reviews

Round Satin Nickel Bed/Bath Pocket Door Lock is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 199.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly designed, breaks Like some other reviewers mine broke shortly after installation and before we actually started using the door. Two problems: it sticks inside the door, and it doesn't push out far enough to engage the click function that would let it push back in correctly. I took it apart, it comes apart fairly easily. The sticking is caused by too tight of tolerances between moving parts. The other issue is caused by the spring being broken. I think the spring is too long and unsupported along its length. The sticking can be fixed with filing, and the button won't get stuck inside the door so at least you can always pull it back out. My spring was broken close to an end so I stretched it a bit and put it back in, but it still won't click out correctly in the out position. Honestly I should not have had to repair this and would like a replacement, or at least a replacement spring. This thing probably looks nice in CAD but it was not designed well. The spring was not selected correctly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks and functions exceed price range I am an architect that is interested in products that are a good value, function well, and look good. I often use my own home as a testing ground before recommending a product to a client. This product is not a multi-hundred dollar latch from Germany or Italy which we'd all love to install if budgets were infinite. With that said, I was pleasantly surprized at how good this latch looks installed and it functions much smoother and latches more securely than the 'edge notch' hardware that is typical on many residential pocket doors. This installs like a typical door knob (drilling, recessing plates) and is much more simple to install than the expensive mortise locks. I would install this in my home again and specify it for clients.

Sturdy, and functional compared to other ones we have purchased in the past. Even though a hole had to be drilled through the door, like a regular lock, the set up is better then the locks that fit over the edge of the door. Better quality by far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful addition to glass pocket door After seeing this latch from a door & window installation company, I purchased one online from HD and had my contractor place it in our new glass door. He'd never seen this kind of latch. Worked like a charm! The pop out pull for the door works better than our old one, too. The return on doorway frame is rectangular (like standard), so did not need to be recut.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from replaces existing lockset nicely This door latch is an excellent option for conversion of a regular door to pocket door. This is the lockset that should be stocked in store rather than the "square" type. It is more reasonable and fits a pre-drilled standard lockset hole. It is more asthetically pleasing and has a built in door pull feature!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Different and better pocket door alternative Really like this design and prefer it over the more typical [rectangular] style. My only gripe is with regard to the product description and visuals ... There is NO imagery nor details related to how the lock actually latches! Based upon what's presented currently, you'd be led to believe that the pull [appears to be a hook] somehow locks the door rather than the actual design that deploys a catch on the side of the bolt that firmly secures the door when latched. Bottom line, a great design well executed ... so why in the world isn't it properly promoted?!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too difficult to lock Clever idea and easy to install, but too hard on the fingers trying to get the thin locking lever all the way into locked position. It's easy to think the door's locked when it's not. The locking lever-dial thing has to be thinner than regular locks to fit into the door pocket/wall, and the lock isn't really locked until that very last click when the little triangular piece of metal pops out of the tip of the dead bolt.
