Re-Key as Easy as 1-2-3
Before you start re-keying, you must have your functioning key, your new KW1 key, and the SmartKey Learn tool.
Step 1
Insert the key that currently operates your lock, and rotate it 90 degrees clockwise.
Step 2
A) Insert the SmartKey tool fully and firmly into the SmartKey hole.
B) Remove the SmartKey tool and the current key.
Step 3
A) Fully insert your new key into the lock and rotate it 180 degrees.
B) Rotate the new key 90 degrees back to the starting position, and remove it. Your lock is now
re-keyed to your new key, and your old key will no longer operate the lock.

I would like to know if I can install this electronic deadbolt outside on my side gate? Thank you.
Asked by PA April 7, 2017since it is only a single cylinder dead bolt it would be easy for someone to reach over and unlock it with the lever on the back side unless you remove the lever but then you have to cover the hole for the lever

Can it be used on a security screen door?
Asked by VB September 29, 2016You would probably need to contact Kwikset or ask that question at Home Depot. Personally, I do not think it could be put on a screen door because the screen door would not be thick enough to let the turn mechanism (rod) work properly. However, Kwikset does have some modification kits that might work, hence the suggestion to contact Kwikset. You properly should measure the thickness of the screen door and also whether you have the setback clearance from the edge of the door to drill the hole.

Asked by JBA August 4, 2017There are 4 switches inside the sliding panel. I think the right most switch controls the auto lock. move that switch down and it turns of the auto lock feature.
Do the inside and outside lever turn at the same time. Wanting to add a childproof lock for the lever on the inside.

Asked by OHNO June 21, 2015You can set it to self lock. I believe the self lock activates after 15-20 seconds. I don't set mine to self lock because my door doesn't always close perfectly, so if the lock does not line up, of course it won't lock. I did have it set to self lock at one time and it worked every time.
