I was looking for a lock that would work with Alexa. This is a very solid, very good looking lock. This version was a z-wave model. For those of you who, like me, are learning how to automate their homes, z-wave (supposedly a more secure form of connection) is different from wi-fi. After purchasing, I found out that Alexa does not talk directly to z-wave devices and you need a z-wave hub to make that connection. I purchased a relatively cheap ($60) Smartthings Hub which worked well. Now everything is functioning and I'm a happy camper. It's a beautiful looking lock that works extremely well. Recommend buying.

I bought an iron front door and it required a deadbolt that was slightly larger than a regular sized deadbolt. I called Kwikset and they recommended this deadbolt. They even sent me a free extension kit. This Kwikset deadbolt is perfect for my iron door. I feel very secured and it works well with my current security system.

If you get an unknown state, this can be resolved!
I installed the deadbolt on my door and got it setup with a third gen Samsung Smarthings hub. It would report the correct state if I manually locked, but if I had the app lock it, it would say unlocked, and log an “unknown” state when it was actually locked.. I discovered that the bolt was actually bottoming out in the door frame hole. When I looked in the hole, I could see a grey oil mark where the bolt hit the wood. By taking 3/4” and 3/8” Forstner drill bits, I extended the depth of the hole, and now the system works flawlessly. The troubleshooting guide was no help here either. The install manual has no info on how far the bolt extends into the frame, and there are no warnings that if the bolt doesnt fully extend, the remote interface won’t be able to log/detect the “locked” state. Now that I have the hole depth extended into the doorframe, the system works perfectly. My advice for kwikset would be to make this failure mode documented, as I had to discover root cause for myself and online searching didnt help.. also notice that my satin nickel lock still has a gold strike guard over the hole? I need to solve that next as the default one that it came with is a different size than what I need..

I opted for this keyless entry system because it seemed to get decent reviews and has a nice, sleek appearance, however, after installing it (at great effort---instructions are so poor that I actually had to call their technical support team to help with programming the unit) it seems that it will be more of a hassle to use than it should be. The biggest disappointment is that in order to program entry codes you must first remove the interior housing to expose the "program button" which requires removing three very small screws. This is going to be an inconvenience for us as we operate a bed and breakfast and so change out entry codes often. We have another keyless entry system at another home we own which does not require disassembly of the unit in order to program. In the future we'll just stick to purchasing another one of those. This one is pretty but not user friendly.

The Z-Wave smartcode smart key door entry is easy to install. The nickel color is stylish. The deadbolt has an option to store up to 20 security password codes. I placed this device on my garage door entry . I now enjoy using the keyless entry option to enter inside my home once I've parked inside my garage. Typing in a four digit code is easier than searching for my keys to unlock the door.

Shipped quickly from Home Depot and received it in just a few days. Installation was fairly straightforward (except for one speed bump, see below) because I had viewed the very nice 3-D animated Kwikset installation video on Youtube multiple times to familiarize myself with the process. The problem that I ran into (and apparently not an uncommon problem as evidenced by many people having the same problem) was that the turn-shaft was not properly installed at the factory and I could not proceed with the installation since I could not get the turn shaft aligned correctly. However, a call to customer service resulted in very quick fix (I just had to place the knob on the shaft and turn it (with a little bit of force) and it clicked into proper alignment. From then on, it was smooth sailing and the installation was completed in just a few minutes with just a screw driver. If not for this quality control issue, I would have given it 5 stars. Pairing with my Smart things hub went without a hitch and thus far, performance has been pretty solid. Overall, I am quite satisfied with this Smart Lock and would not hesitate to recommend it.

The Kwikset Z-wave smartcode 914 venetian bronze single cylinder electronic deadbolt featuring smartkey security is one of a kind lock. Installation was very easy and since all my locks were all made by kwikset, re-keying was a no brainer. I connected it to my smart home through Samsung smartthings hub and it was easy. Now, I can remotely lock, unlock and monitor the lock from anywhere around the globe on my mobile device. Pretty impressive to be able to do such. I did not have to set up the code since I have 2 options; key or remotely. I might consider setting up the code if I have a visitor. This is a great lock to have and it is highly recommended.

I've used smart lock products from all the biggest names in the business, and overall, I think this may be the best lower-cost model on the market. While it uses a simple number pad, it's extraordinarily functional, and far easier to use than keypads with disappearing numbers and "fancy" touchscreens. The simple push to lock button couldn't be more straightforward, and in my opinion it's so much better than "smarter" locks that attempt to lock on their own once you've left the house, which typically never works right. Another thing I really like about this lock is that you're getting a complete system, including a brand-new lock, not just a battery and motor, like some so-called smart locks. I've used this for several weeks with my Wink Hub 2 and Amazon Alexa smart home setup, and it's been perfect. There are just two concerns I have with it: (1) the motorized locking mechanism is very loud, much louder than the ones I've used from other manufacturers. I'm getting used to it, but nearly everyone in the house is going to hear this whenever it locks. (2) the battery life might not be up to par with other manufacturers. I haven't been able to determine it for sure so far, but by monitoring the battery meter from within the Wink app, I can see that's it's dropping faster than the battery in a similar lock I have from another manufacturer. You'd best invest in rechargeable batteries if you're going to use this or any smart lock. A few other notes of interest: (1) mine came with a big chip in the plastic cover, which I assume was a one-off issue, but perhaps the bubble wrap it came in isn't quite sufficient. (2) by default, it makes some pretty loud chirping noises every time you lock or unlock it, which I think are pretty annoying. Luckily, they can be turned off with a tiny DIP switch inside the lock.

No more fumbling for keys. This deadbolt by Kwikset has a smaller and cleaner footprint than many others. It looks good and takes up less space on the door, and unlike another popular “S” brand I own, the raised keypad is easy to see in any light, and the rubberized numeric buttons are easy to depress, even with wet fingers. The deadbolt is ANSI Grade 2, which is sufficient for residential use. I installed one of these deadbolts with the venetian bronze finish on an exterior garage entry door that is exposed to the elements, and the finish has thus far held up well. The deadbolt installs easily by following the included instructions, which I found to be helpful, especially when it came to the proper location to feed the wire through the door so they are not in the way of the lock mechanism. Programming is easy, but be sure to hang onto the programming guide because it contains the procedure and a code that is needed for programming and to add or change the code. The deadbolt operates on 4-AA batteries (included) installed in the interior portion of the lock. Battery life is very good, but because you need to use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove 2 small screws on either side of the interior unit, I’d recommend using lithium batteries rather than the included alkaline batteries because they will last longer, especially in cold climates. If the batteries should run down or die, the lock will not function – the deadbolt will throw slowly prior to failure, however two keys are included for use in such event. The Smartkey feature allows you to rekey this deadbolt lock so that it’ll accept another Kwikset key, but it’s not necessary to use a key, except in the event of dead batteries, if you use a programmed code to operate the deadbolt. Accessing the batteries for replacement requires removing the interior cover and could be made easier. The lock mechanism operates smoothly, and I am very satisfied with this deadbolt and highly recommend it.
