Yes and that was the problem. the ring didn't line up correctly and the screws crossed threaded on me. Because of that I returned it. to bad because it was a nice sturdy pit. Maybe they should ship with ring already attached.
There is no toxic coating on the metal. However, we do have proposition 65 warning for all of our firepits. Please see warning below: WARNING: FUELS USED IN WOOD OR CHARCOAL BURNING APPLIANCES, AND THE PRODUCTS OF COMBUSTION OF SUCH FUELS, CAN EXPOSE YOU TO CHEMICALS INCLUDING CARBON BLACK, WHICH IS KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER, AND CARBON MONOXIDE, WHICH IS KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE BIRTH DEFECTS OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVE HARM.For more information go to: www.P65Warnings.ca.gov
I've found that this really depends on how hot your fire will be getting. If you don't want to fry your grass and make a big brown spot, then elevation or a protector of some kind is a good idea. You can go cheap and throw down a piece of sheet rock; that will work, but it is not aesthetically pleasing. I use three paving stones and put one under each leg. That adds 5-6 inches of height to the pit, and that has kept my grass safe so far.
I don’t see why not. My estimate would be that the four clips should easily withstand 50 lbs.
I don't use a cover on this one or the other Landmann pit I had for almost a decade. I have found the best strategy for keeping the insides from rusting out is to drill in a few decent sized drain holes in the bottom. I used a 3/8 bit and put in a start pattern at the bottom. That helps get water out and also provides a good updraft for the fire to keep it going. If you really want a cover, you might be able to find a large BBQ grill cover that would fit.
It didn't feel cheap at all...not heavy very sturdy. The ring and threads didn't line up , screws kept cross threading.
The inside diameter is 23 1/4 inches. I would recommend cutting your wood to a max of 21 inches so it would make it easy to load. You can always use longer pieces and stack them like a teepee.
