Here in NC you would be wise to make your first application in late February because temperatures in Charlotte are in the 60's by then. To all the naysayers out there. People you have to apply this stuff before spring growth starts. Once the weeds germinate this stuff won't work especially with Crabgrass. After 4 weeks you need to reapply. If your lawn is heavily infested with weeds you need to apply EARLY spring and then every 4 weeks well into the summer. That is one of the few ways to eradicate weeds effectively along with a healthy thick lawn via aeration, top dressing with compost and over seeding.

I have Empire Zoysia that I laid as sod in Aug. 2015. General rule to lay is Feb. 15 - Mar. 1, but I noticed full-grown weeds at the base of some of my yews this past weekend that is surrounded by the sod, so I almost wonder if I shouldn't have done my first application somewhere between Feb. 1 - 15. I didn't follow the directions to a T in my first year and didn't do the 2nd application 4-6 weeks after the first, but this year I certainly will since I had some weeds sprouting up here and there. Seeing as how you have to do this pre-emergent in spring while the turf is still in dormancy, I wouldn't recommend doing the Lesco 15-0-15 since you'll end up fertilizing too soon. However, since I had amazing results with controlling weeds over winter (particularly the bluegrass which was terrible the previous winter), I would highly recommend doing the 15-0-15 (as your first fall pre-emergent and your last fall fertilizer), followed by the 0-0-7 4-6 weeks later -- zero bluegrass this past winter. The yellowing people noted wasn't an issue for me. The first mow of the season for zoysia requires a "buzzcut" and bagging it ALL (yes, labor-intensive), but you'll see why afterwards -- it opens up all the spaces between the blades and gets out all the thatch that was laid from mowing the previous year. All the space allows this product to fall between the grass blades against the soil, so it doesn't run-off or cause much of a nuisance at all. The pictures show my grass 2 days after buzz-cutting, and 1 day after application and watering-in of this product.

What I use it for is the "scourge of spurge." It works very well for that, but this year I have noticed with all the rain we have had that I should have applied it again in May or June to prevent the outbreak of spurge we have recently been blessed with. Yes, it stains everything yellow, so wear old clothes and shoes.

It turned out, it was not worth a penny. I wasted my money $20+ in vain, a d the time to spread the product. It did not kill or prevent one single weed.
