Questions & Answers

Can this be used as a window well cover? What thickness would be safe if a child stood on it?

Asked by: DRPC
As a flat sheet supported only by a well 1-1/2” from its outer edge away from the building and assuming the window well cover is an arc approximately 44” x 20”, then after 2 years of sun and weather ... I wouldn’t trust it for anything heavier than a hamster. If you could heat form the window well cover to a domed shape with an edge lip ... then I suppose you wouldn’t be asking the question. If you were considering 1/4” sheet, the answer would still be no human traffic. Perhaps there’s a pre-formed window well cover somewhere that meets your needs.

I am wanting to put this as a cover on a pergola to keep rain out. I need it to be 10 foot length. How would I piece it to keep it from leaking when it rains?
Asked by: Dennis
This wouldn’t work. I used it for picture frames instead of glass. It would be too flimsy for your application.

Insulaion properties

I have water condensation build up on the interior of my north facing windows. Instead of buying new windows, I was wondering if adding a polycarbonate sheet to the inside of the windows will help with the condensation and add an additional layer of insulation to the existing windows, keeping the cold air out? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Asked by: Anonymous
Absolutely works for me! I use lexan as a sort of interior storm window and seal them from the inside with rope calk for the winter months which eliminates interior moisture on the windows and adds insulating value.

48 in. x 96 in. x 0.118 in. Clear Polycarbonate Sheet is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crystal Clear, easy to cut. The product was as specified, my client was impressed with the clarity of the Lexan. Delivery was faster than expected, the only issue was that one of the panels was scratched during shipping, due to the need for custom sizing was able to elimate the scratched surface

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lexan Pricey But Worth It I used this rather than glass in some cabinet doors where I wanted less chance of breakage. It is clear and it is much lighter than glass. The doors turned out great. As for workability, the 4x8 sheet was cut very easily on the table saw with a plywood blade. I cut a 4x8 sheet of 1/8 inch hardboard sheet (across the 4 foot side) to the dimension of glass length needed and taped both pieces down on the saw table with double sided tape before cutting the Lexan sheet. This provided much needed support for the flimsy Lexan sheet and provided a smooth surface to slide the Lexan over. Worked out perfectly. NOTE OF CAUTION: I picked up my sheet from Home Depot and it was well wrapped and didn't show any sign of damage, but when I got it home and removed the cardboard there were a number of scratches running lengthwise in my sheet. So it was packaged that way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! Product is great, the sheet comes 3/4" larger length and width, strong, durable, clean surface. Expensive but worth the investment .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good product Very easy to cut, unlike regular plastic which cracks and chunks off. I used a fine tooth plywood blade in a power saw, didn't even have to sand the edge after the cut. Product was quite flexible with no indication of wanting to snap or crack, I managed 4X8 sheets by my self without a problem. One thing, it is heavy for being thin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very, very Happy so far. Just had it installed last... Very, very Happy so far. Just had it installed last week, so far so good. We used it to shield the rain and snow off the front porch on one side the elements collect on the porch floor, this will keep that from happening. Also it looks like it is not even there. So Happy we purchased this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to drill and cut We used four (4x8) sheets as part of a Kitty Kastle that we designed for our barn cats, and found them easy to cut and drill. This stuff is extremely flexible, so, as others have mentioned, it needs to be stabilized for cutting. We did the cutting on our outdoor deck on top of the cardboard in which the sheets were packaged, and, using 8' 2x4 boards beneath the poly, we put one board on either side of our cut-line, and another 4-5 boards next to it for us to kneel on without bending the sheet. Using a plastic cutting blade, it slid through the poly very well, however, it did cause it to weld to the film coating, which required us to use a pocket knife to shave off the resultant flange and release the film. Next time, we'll use a plastic blade that specifies that it doesn't melt the poly. The clarity of this stuff is like glass, and its strength is admirable. At one point, I accidentally stepped on the corner of the 4" overhang that we'd already screwed to the 2x2 wooden framework for the project's roof, and as my husband gasped in horror, I quickly stepped off and the nearly 90 degree bend snapped right back to straight with nary a crack or crease. We now plan to use these great sheets to add 4' of additional overhang to our existing 3' of overhang on our deck.
