How long to wait until the unit can be turned on after unpacking from the box? There is no answer in the provided owner's manual.
Asked by: Jon
You can turn the unit on and run all functions as soon as it is hooked up. The oils will not run out of the compressor on any unit made after 1949. It is safe to transport any refrigeration unit on its side and then set it upright and turn it on about a minute later. The old myth about not letting a unit run after it was on its side got started when the first units were made without modern supports and springs, but this no longer applies. I am an engineer and I am 100% sure about this.

How long is the drainage/vent hose. We are going to try and vent it out a skylight window that is about 4 feet high in the roof.
Asked by: lkh
The water is not under pressure, it slowly drains out. It has an auto off function that will turn off your unit, if it fills with water. So you are not going to be able to force the water to go up the hose and out the top of a sky light.

Can the thermostat control when the a/c unit turns on and off like a house thermostat does?

Asked by: Jordan
The Thermostat does not turn the A/C unit on and off. You set the temp and it stays on at that temp. You can set a timer to turn off.

(Although they left it on the front porch.) It was initially intimidating to look at the assembly stuff and instructions, however it went together easily. It looks good and I don't mind the bulkiness. It has worked very well and is quiet. I don't really notice it operating behind me. I have a small art studio and it has been great to keep the air circulating and cool. We will see when the temps get over 100 in the summer time. Let you know then.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for 1 summer I bought this 13 months ago and it was a lifesaver for last year. I have sliding windows in my bedroom so couldn’t use a traditional window AC unit. It is LOUD and it takes up a lot of space but it cooled my room quickly despite it being a larger room with a 15,000+ BTU recommendation. I cleaned it thoroughly before storing it during the winter, and again before reinstalling it this year. It worked just as well as it did last year for about 3 weeks. Now, a month after the 1 year warranty expired, it’s not as efficient as it was. It feels like it’s only working as a dehumidifier and the compressor sounds as though it’s not functioning properly. Will have to disassemble the unit and clean it once again, hopefully that helps but I’m pretty sure I spent $400 to use this for less than 4 months and that sucks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gets cold I bought this 2 days ago and testing it against another with the same BTUs. In a 10x10 room. Pro it does get cold, basically does it job. I don't think its loud, just like a fan blowing air. But I like white noise. Con, my office is small so I'm sitting right next to it and it blowing directly at me. Since the vents are on the top of the unit I had to tape cardboard to redirect the air upwards and away. Con, it is bulky, a slimmer version would be better for my room size. Con, the power cord and exhaust hose are short. My window and dedicated outlet are on opposite walls. The exhaust hose does not snap into the housing, so if I readjust the hose pops out. Con, swing option only accesible on the remote not on the unit, what happens when you lose the remote? Con, can't view the remote in the dark, no backlit. Con wish it had a current temperature reading. I selected 75 an it ran for 12 hours straight and didn't shift gears. So guessing the room never got to 75, but PRO, it was still cranking away. Perhaps my cons list might not be applicable on the bigger units.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Portable Air Conditioner I bought this for the simplicity it is. A window AC needs to be installed and removed from the window for each season. This portable unit is simple to install. The amoint of window use is minmal and I leave the screen in place (case window). There is a bracket to secure the window for security. It cools family, dinig room, kitchen. I am very satisfy with my purchase. Condensed water is used on the condenser, evaporates out the main hose. For winter, I simply remove the window assembly, hose and close the window. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

My parents have owned 3 of these - various BTU's from 8,000 to 12,000 and its the same story. They work great for a while and do a great job cooling large rooms. But, even properly maintained, they only get a couple years out of them then they stop cooling or have some other issue. Just as the warranty runs out. Repair trip charge is 1/3 of the price of the unit or more. Haven't been able to find any where I can drop off the units for repair to save that cost. Just not worth it. Will be switching to a different brand that is hopefully more reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for! I needed a more efficient way of cooling and dehumidifying than a window A/C. It gets humid in the summer and a regular dehumidifier adds heat so, I looked into this portable unit and it works great! Does just what I was hoping, dries the air while cooling, sending the heat out the window! I wish the remote was backlit but, the unit is quiet and has an automated louver system that mixes the air very well! I am using it in a bit oversized room but, it takes care of business! Took it camping and used it in a mid-sized (10 person) tent a few days ago. It was in the upper 90's during the day and mid 70's at night. We were cold at night and had to turn the temp up a little. It was about as loud as the fan we have in our bedroom at home. I found that if I adjusted the air outlet to blow forward instead of straight up it worked better with our tent which has a ventilated top (we had the rain fly set up too). We ran the exhaust outlet outside the tent and just zipped the door shut around it. Worked like a champ! Super easy to set up. It weighs over 60 lbs but rolls around on a hard surface just fine. (Had to carry it to the tent.) This A/C unit would easily keep our lower living area in our house cooled. We live in a hurricane-prone area by Houston so having it for a backup A/C when the power is out was our secondary reason for purchase. It just runs off of standard 110v so our generator would easily power this 15 amp unit. I would recommend it.
