Q:Trouble attaching handle

Answer This Question

A:  It would help if you were a little more specific with your question. Is the screw missing? Is the sleeve in the handle to small for the shaft?

by|Aug 14, 2020

A:  This is a very sturdy unit. i have used it for several years. when i had a small leak after several years, i took it apart, checked the seals and i reassembled. i did not have any problems when i first bought the unit. after years i disassembled and i put the handle back on and there was no leaks. i am sorry you can not attach the handle. i would suggest you have someone else try to assemble. this was not a complicated unit. i attached the handle twice and at no time did i find the handle hard to install. Great unit. last for years.

A:  Your question is too vague to give you a good answer. There should be a 1/4-20 stud sticking out of the black plastic handle that fits in a hole in the metal crank arm of the reel. It is secured by two nuts locked together.

A:  It sounds like they want you to use and expandable anchor which is sometimes drilled larger than bolt size.It has to be drilled in mortar joint not in brick.

A:  I used my Ramset.....I have had one for years. It comes in handy when you need to attach anything into concrete. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ramset-TriggerShot-0-22-Caliber-Powder-Actuated-Tool-40066/202055966

A:  I install my hose reel on a slump stone block wall using a tapcon+ 1/4”,2” 1/2 screw anchor,Drill size is 3/16,Holding strong installed approximately one year ago.

      by|Sep 8, 2019

A:  i suggest you mount a 3/4" back board [wood treated] to the brick masonry wall. then attach the reel. it is a more solid foundation. the type of anchor you mention will work, note there are several masonry devices that can be used. what every works for masonry wall. i try to go into the motor joints and not the brick.

        by|Aug 14, 2020

A:  I bought the anchors with the bolt that fit the holes in the hose reel. Then used the instructions that came with the anchors and not the product.

Q:Does this have ball bearings on the crank
        by|Jun 9, 2019

        Answer This Question

A:  Not sure, I still have the spec. sheet that came with it, but that makes no mention of ball bearings. In looking at it, it doesn't appear that there's room there for a race to house any bearings. That said, the crank operates very smooth and easy as though there were ball bearings. It is much easier to crank that any plastic hose reel I've owned. I just wish there was a cover for it. Given that it's metal, I'm trying to keep it protected from the elements. Wouldn't want that crank to get rusty.

        by|Jun 21, 2019

A:  I don't think so but it turns smoothly. This all-metal unit is much sturdier than those junk plastic ones.

            A:  (Didn't I just answer this?) No

            by|Jun 11, 2019

A:  It sounds like it doesn't. I have had no trouble reeling in the hose.

            by|Jun 10, 2019

A:  No. Terrible reel. Don’t buy it.

A:  No, no bushings either. It's just metal on metal.

Q:Would this be a good sturdy reel for a heavy duty 100 foot backwash hose?

              Answer This Question

A:  I would say so; it’s the sturdiest hose reel I’ve ever had. 100’ hose on a 200’ reel should work well.

              by|Apr 21, 2019

A:  I don't know what a backwash hose is but I have 100 foot garden hose an it reels very easy. Was just what I wanted.

                by|Apr 23, 2019

A:  I use it to hold a 3/4" heavy duty Goodyear rubber hose that is 100' long. Works well. This hose is a true kink proof thick hose. The weakest link may be the screws used to mound to a wall.

                  by|May 2, 2019

A:  I have no idea what a backwash hose looks like but this has met or exceeded my expectations for a 3/4 75ft garden hose.

                    by|Apr 24, 2019

A:  Yes it would it is sturdy and quite a bargain I’ve used mine for several years in a commercial setting

                      by|Apr 20, 2019

A:  Yes, I don’t know what a backwash hose is but I put two heavy duty black hoses on mine and it’s lasted for years. Good brass fittings too. I bought two of them

                        by|Apr 24, 2019

A:  I don't know what a backwash hose is,but this is a sturdy reel-the sturdiest one I have found. I suspect you would pull it off the building before you break it.

I would recommend this product, but with the below information for future buyers to be aware of. - I mounted two of these, one on each end of my house. I installed these in July of 2019 and have used them a couple of times now. - This product does coil up 200' of 5/8" hosing easily with some room to spare. - It does come with everything except the mounting hardware. As stated in the description. -I mounted two treated 2x4s to my house; then mounted the hose reel onto these. See attached images. The reason I gave this product two stars is because of the quality. The fabrication quality and tolerances of this entire assembly is awful.. I cannot believe it would pass quality control during the fabrication process. 1) The mounting plate is not flat, so when you screw it into your supporting structure it becomes warped and you force it into flatness. 2) The "spoked wheels" that hold the hose in are warped up to 3/4" out of flatness. It looks like a wobbly tire rolling down the road. 3) The fittings all leaked, but they are small leaks so I will deal with it. I am concerned how long the fittings will last though. 4) The center cylinder that the hose wraps around is flimsy, I assume it is fabricated from 20GA material. Overall this product does its job but is very cheap and poorly constructed. Thank you, Cheers

This company should be ashamed manufacturing and selling this junk at a premium price. It came apart the first 5 minutes of winding the hose in it. The hose kinks when it first goes around the spool when you wind it. The handle rubbed the mounting bracket when turning it to wind the hose. I feel pretty certain it will start to rust where the spool goes through the mounting bracket on each side as there are no bearings it spins on. Of course it didn't make it that long for me to know that for sure. Overall I think a high school STEM class could have created a better design. Will be returning it!

This hose reel is well made, sturdy, no leaks and i am pleased with it. it was delivered on time to Home Depot about one month ago and the employee was very helpful. I added $10 in pipe fittings so the hose connection is inside the wheels. i attached the reel to two 2x4's and arranged it to mount on my wooden fence but movable as i transport it to different locations. my only disappointment is the welding - weld hole in one wheel and many skips in the drum-to-wheel welds to allow water to get in and cause rust - i caulked it to make it watertight.

100' HD 3/4" barely fits on the spool. It appears to be built well, time will tell. I used tapcon screws and anchored it too a 2'X2'X 2" precast concrete pad. I wish it had a swivel base, then it would really fit my needs. Overall it appears to be a quality product.

WARNING: This product does NOT have a limited lifetime warranty as stated in the description on Home Depot site (as of 8/10/17)! I bought this rather expensive item specifically for that feature. The actual warranty is 3 years on the frame (which is unlikely to ever fail), but ONE YEAR on the moving parts and especially the hose connection, which will likely give out first! If you're looking for a manufacturer that stands behind its product, stay away.

I went for an all metal reel because I wanted a quality product that would last. I believed the claim that the powder coating would hold up to weather. After 1 1/2 seasons, stored indoors for 6 months of winter, experiencing heavy rust and peeling paint. (see photo) Not worth the extra money. Plastic might last longer.

This is a nice solid unit with the exception of the pipe thread sealing. They changed the design from the last unit I purchased and are now trying to seal pipe thread with a rubber gasket that has no flange to seat on. Mine leaked like a sieve. Hard to believe that they could be that stupid. The issue is at the galvanized tee where it attaches to the drum. Why isn't it brass too? Then use male pipe threads at the drum and hose nipple. Chinese lousy design does it again.
