Questions & Answers

Will this unit start and run a 13,500 btu air conditioner in a RV.

Asked by: Attakapas
Watched a video online and a guy started his A/C WHILE his microwave was already in operation. That's worst case scenario for a travel trailer and this unit appeared to be OK. You're going to lose a little bit of power if you're at altitude so that's something to keep in mind, but you certainly won't lose more than that microwave was pulling.

Could I run two of these in parrallel to increase the wattage to 4000?

Asked by: Glenn
On inverter generators it is technically possible, but the generator must have a special connector that allows the 60hz oscillator in one to behave as a master so the other(s) are in sync with it. But keep in mind that no generator can respond fast enough for a high-impulse start up and some equipment can be damaged with what amounts to a brown-out condition when starting. (if you have any equipment such as compressors which includes refridgeration/AC or with sensitive electric equipment of any time, you want to use a generator with more than the 'impulse' current needed for the startup on it's typical output. Many of these smaller generators have 'economy' modes that scale the generator speed to the current being pulled which means their typical-output varies and any increased draw will be met with delayed response)

I bought this to power a new out of the box LG 5,000 BTU AC, 440 W, 4.1 AMP. When the AC compressor starts. gen almost dies and the overload switch trips. Pushing the overload button, it doesn't reset. I Have to restart the gen to reset the switch. Researching online, Those with a Honda 2,000-watt gen are not having a problem running a 5,000 watt AC. So why won't this Lifan gen 2,200-W, 1,800 running watt gen run my 5,000 BTU AC.
Asked by: mark
I run a 5k air conditioner with a smaller generator than this but I have to run it at max a/c on really hot days, so it doesn’t cycle off or on milder days I set so I get at least a minute of off cycle time, this lets the high pressure side bleed down to reduce the restart wattage load on the generator.

Will the 2kw max, intermittent of this unit power an ac compressor at start that draws a running 920 watts

Asked by: Steve
I've done this with a compressor and generator, with the tank empty, the starting load was about 50% more and lasted for 1/2 second until the motor was up to speed. However, once it shut off and the air pressure dropped below 80 psi and tried to restart, the load doubled and it lasted for 2 to 4 seconds until it reached full speed. If you can use or bleed the air pressure off so the compressor never stops you might get away with it.
