Do you have to ground this unit?

No I don't have to ground mine, but I wish I had tried out this gen before the return period had expired. Under a 2,200 startup surge like a frig or small AC, This gen will stall out and just die. I'm sure it's due to the nutty fruit loops DEM's EPA ca choked out carb that's forced onto this gen. The On-line forms are saying enlarge the carb jet to the next drill bit size so this gen don't starve on gas and can run as intended.

Are emergency radios and AM radios usable with this without noise from the AC line?

This review is for the small LIFAN ESI860i 600W generator, No it won't run a refrigerator. No it won't support a 600W load at 1,000ft elevation. If you are thinking of running any full sized motorized appliance with this generator, buy something else. It is small in size and can provide a couple hundred watts of power over a reasonable amount of time. It will easily run lights and a fan for a long time on a small amount of fuel. The breakover point is roughly 200-300W. Slightly larger generators are more efficient and have a longer run time with 300W or more load on them. I have five of these guys and like an 60's beetle, they can be pretty reliable with a little TLC. They start on the first pull most of the time with the choke closed. (You have to hold down the generator with your other hand since it is so lightweight.) Access to the oil is easy to drain and fill with the provided accessories. (I recommend it often, like every 10 hours.) The generator will consume oil when loaded > 300W and will need to be topped off every other tank. As far as quality, I've had to mend three of them to keep them running. LIFAN support has been pretty good overall.

As the owner of a construction company building unique sets and signage in remote conditions I found this to be a good little unit, it ran my small compressor and a 15 amp compound miter saw. However when starting the saw we would have to wait a couple seconds for the overload light to go out before making the actual cut. A small inconvenience but with some training not any issue. This unit fires up easy and is ultra quiet, my run time on a full tank was about 5 hours.

I only used this a few times to test it out. Started easily an no issues. Now, it was heavily used following Hurricane Irma down here in FL. This thing ran for 4+ days straight without issue. I should've shut it down to change the break-in oil, but I was too busy. Changed it today and it was well spent. I hope I didn't damage it running for so long on the original oil. So far, so good and much less expensive than my Yamaha and Honda versions of this model.

Although I have not had to use this for an emergency yet, I have fired it up half a dozen times to make sure it starts and runs and put a load on it to break it in. Usually takes 7 or 8 pulls, quite a few primes, and some choke to get it running and warmed up when it's cold, but warm starts are 1-2 pulls. This unit is, as advertised, very quiet. I only paid $319 from HD for it, which is the reason I decided to give it a try, It doesn't have some of the bells and whistles that the Generac and Ryobi have, but as long as it starts and provides clean power, that's all I expect.

The generator was purchased with intended use of running the blower on a gas-fired furnace at our mountain cabin during power outages. The running wattage of the blower is approximately 800 watts. We haven't had a power failure yet, but I tested it to verify that it would work for this purpose, and it did.

I own a Photo Booth Business and I needed a portable generator that was ideal for electronic equipment, after some research I came across this inverter generator. I couldn't pass up the great value. as soon as i got it I set up all my equipment I would normally use on an event, witch included 2 Studio lights, laptop, 32' led tv, Camera, studio strobe, and a printer. and this generator didn't even sweat it. It was easy to set up and start. I will definitely purchase another.

Generator was shipped and arrived quickly and in excellent shape. The first thing I noticed was that the box stated a run time of 3 hours @50% rather than the 7 hours stated on the website. The control panel image on the website was also different than actual, likely from a high model as the image included the paralleling port as well as switches for idle control and remote control no present on this unit. Took off one star for the differences between what was on the Homedepot site versus actual as noted above. However, the included instructions were excellent. Package included an extra spark plug and tools including an oil filler jug and drain tube, spark plug wrench. Adding the oil was easy. Initial startup was easy and it ran well. After running the generator at no-load and low load for a while I loaded the unit to various loads, up to about 1750 watts. The unit loaded and unloaded well. The unit was quiet at idle and not bad at "full" load. Much quieter than my 6500 watt unit at idle. Overall appears well made. Fit and finish are good. Don't know about long term, but as good or better than my larger generator and much easier to move around. I will likely use this more than my other unit, and will use it in place of extension cords. I am quite happy with the unit, particularly at the price.

If I wasn't desperate, I'd have taken it back in the matter of the first hour of operation, except, as a lifelong mechanic, I understand "the break-in period"... But then again... OOPSY ! (8-l ... I can't take it back, have to deal with the manufacturer directly, certainly involving an unacceptable length of time, in the replacement process =-( The next issue, is the extremely crap design of the fuel delivery system, coupled with the slightly too lean fuel mixture, resulting in CONSTANT surging ! ... Topped off with an improperly adjusted low oil sensor, requiring roughly double the oil(which, nowhere was I able to locate in the accompanying literature, a specification for the AMOUNT of oil needed, only the recommended viscosity), according to the mark's on the dipstick... Other than, a mention of not putting in over 20oz :-O / :-[ / :-O According to the dipstick(which at least it was well illustrated whether to poke it in, or screw it in, when checking for proper level), 4-5oz would be the right amount... The low oil sensor said, oh HAIL NAW ! ... I kept adding, until around 12oz, before the sensor agreed to function... In a few minutes, the unit was billowing oil smoke from being too full... So, I poured some out >.< The end result was, basically about 8oz = fill to the top of the dipstick hole. Which if you're lucky, will allow the unit to run the lousy 40 hour's, until it's time to start over... I'm waiting with baited breath to see how long before it has so much blow by, that it pushes it's oil out of a seal, or PCV circuit. ... If it lasts for close to 10,000 hrs like it should, before the rings or throttle controller burn out, then I'll have no real complaint... :-D Best of luck to ME :-D
