Questions & Answers

which la Habra is more finest base 100 or base 200

which la Habra is more finest base 100 or base 200
Asked by: ev
The base is for lighter and darker colors and has nothing to do with the texture. 16/20 is the sand texture formula which is rougher than the 20/30 mix which has a smoother look when applied. 16/20 is standard.

is this a stucco finish ?

Does is the sand powder mix that I can do the finish coat to match our stucco ? We have a Spanish style house that it looks like they took a trowel and made swirls in the stucco and I am trying to match that as close as possible . Is this the product I need .
Asked by: bob
Yes, this was finish coat applied over cement foundation prior to painting. Bonding adhesive to site of application improves application and adherence to cement surface.

How long before it can be painted after applying?

Asked by: Rob
The two factors that drive the decision when to paint the cement finish stucco is dry and pH. It must be dry. It also should have the alkalinity drop to as near neutral as possible. Alkalinity can burn paint and result in failure. The pH usually drops pretty fast and you can use a pH test strip. Typically, a week is about right, two weeks is better to be sure.

I used a bonding agent between the sponge floated brown coat and this LaHabra Finish color coat. Material bonded well to areas with bonding agent, but in one area where the product overlapped and was floated together without bonding agent between the layers it's spalling off. Product was installed per manufactures specifications 1/8" thick and within 1 hr. I moisture conditioned the surface, and removed standing water on wall. I mixed it just wet enough to spread it 1/8" thick. Unsure why I'm having bonding issues?
Asked by: Andrew
First, sponge floating the brown is not an approved method ( ASTM C 926 Sec. 7.2.2.2.) . It should be hard floated to densify the brown coat. This helps the stucco resist cracks and water penetration . The La Habra finish should bond to a clean brown and to itself with no need for a bonding agent. But, no harm in using the bonding agent either. For it to separate between the finish coats is odd. Is it possible you over mixed the finish? That can weaken it. Adding other additives ( particularly soap) can also weaken it. Some do this ( add soap) to make is spread easier. Did you water cure the finish? This too can be a problem. We water cure the base coats, but not the finish coat. It can impact the bonding.
