is this a air purifer

Asked by: deacon
Not meant to be. There is an ion option but it will not purify air like an air purifier.

how does this compare to a box fan?

My central air is broken, and i have a box fan for my room, but i am looking for something to augment this. Will this fan do the job, or would i be better off buying another box fan instead?
Asked by: Erica
Takes up much less room. Is much quieter.

42 in. Electronic Tower Fan with Remote Control is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 539.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not very powerful, just 'ok' My amazing dad brought me one of these fans today as a surprise because I'd been complaining about the heat and our old & broken fans. I love that it has a remote! It's not nearly as powerful as our other fans, but it's much, much more quiet and I do love that. I'd say that if you don't care about a lot of power and want the convenience of a remote, this is a great fan. If you want to spend a little less money and need something a bit more powerful, get one of the Lasko Performance Series fans - those suckers are AWESOME! The ONLY thing I don't like about those is the extremely wide base - they take up so much room. Thanks for reading!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm a big fan of this unit !! I bought this model at the beginning of last Summers heat. It has worked flawlessly for a year now. It is quieter than other tower fans I've experienced at friends homes. It's amazing how much cooler it can make a room feel. It allows us to put off turning on the AC by 5 more degrees. The remote works perfectly. No problems with the oscillation mentioned by a few other reviewers. It is able to create a nice breeze on low power that covers our entire 15 x 15 tv room. I'm here online to buy 2 more this year before the Summer rush for other rooms replacing old 12" table top fans. So glad these are still available. Great bargain.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Won't Oscillate this year I purchased this Lasko Fan #2559 from Home Depot on April 25, 2014. I'm a female and it was very easy to assemble. The fan did everything the box stated it would do. I use it in my enclosed patio. This May or June, I took the fan out plugged it in, hit the remote fan working great with one exception, it will not oscillate anymore. All the other features work with or with the remote except the one feature. I would expect this to work more than one year. Of course it's Saturday and their help line is only from M - F. So I will contact them next week and try to find out what has gone wrong with it. I'll write again after I've contacted them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even though I use a ceiling fan in my bedroom,... Even though I use a ceiling fan in my bedroom, year round, and adjust the thermostat to provide a cooler sleeping environment, I still need more air circulation. This fan works perfectly to accomplish that. It sits about 8' from my bed. I angle it to face the bed, which I prefer over the oscillation feature. Normally have it set on low speed. Although will probably kick up the speed during the summer. It provides exactly the level of air circulation I need. I noticed immediately that I was sleeping so much better and not waking up during the night feeling too warm, and then too cool. In addition, it blends in with the room's decor just fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Good Base Unit This unit makes a nice breeze with three setting for the fan, an ionizer, and oscillate. It works as advertised. The controller works fine, is line of site, and all fans run on the same frequency. Even with two in a room you can individually control each unit with the single controller. The oscillation is lame as always. How hard is it to offer an obtuse angle of oscillation?! Because it gets about 80 degrees of oscillation I could never give this a 5 star. It is obvious that all fans should have at least 90 degree oscillation if not 180...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORKS GREAT!!! Bought the fan to cool me at night. My roommate prefers to leave the air off and the heat on high, so I was in dire need of a fan of any kind. I found this one and after assembling it, I turned it on its lowest setting and it is beyond wonderful. It is hot in the apartment right now, but sitting on my bed, it feels like I have the windows open with a cool, yet comfortable breeze blowing in. The oscillation is not that great, but I didn't buy it to oscillate, so who cares. No batteries came with the fan, which is a disappointment, as I don't have AAA's sitting around. Overall, excellent! Color is black and doesn't match my stuff, but it will do. Definitely a recommender!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Big Fan, No Power I bought this 42" fan and a 40", a different brand (for a smaller room) today. This is a good looking tall fan. The highest setting is not strong. The smaller fan blows harder. o_0 The box states "Widespread Oscillation". No. It oscillates about 70-80 degrees. The smaller fan oscillates 90 degrees plus more bells & whistles. The reason for this big fan being so light, maybe due to the motor not being big enough. Needs more power! This fan will be returned. I read a review here that said the lowest setting is not low or quite enough. Are you kidding? This fan's lowest setting is low and quite. That person needs to get further away from the fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fan! This is a great fan. I don't think I paid $60 for mine though. This fan won't tip over, and won't break if you knock it over on accident more than once! Quite sturdy! The ION feature works quite well. Good for keeping a room 'odor free' Moves quite a bit of air. Comfortable for sleeping on low setting. The timer works. and all the controls are simple. Remote works up to about 45 degrees from directly in front. Hangs on the back for storage. I wish it had a bit more angle of oscillation, but thats the only con I can think of. Cleaning isn't too bad with a swiffer 360 duster. Haven't tried anything else. I've had this fan over a year. I would definitely buy another if need be. There's a 'wood grain' variant if you want your fan to cost more.
