will this remain sticky if it is above the level of the crack and come off on shoes and car tires? It appears that it can be forced into cracks with a scraper but that will also spread a thin layer on the surface of the blacktop.
Asked by: Jace
When I used it got hard, not sticky.

Asked by: Catameah
Assuming your driveway is asphalt, this product would fit the bill well. You could, however get good results with a quality exterior latex caulk which would likely be less expensive.

How long do I have to wait before I can drive over a crack filled with this after it dries in one to two hours?
Asked by: HomeDepotShopper
It somewhat depends on how deep the crack you are filling is, but typically you are ready to go in 2-3 hours.

How to get this in narrow less than 1/8 inch cracks
Asked by: Dad
I used a plastic trowel and work it just as it came out of the tube, keep the trowel angle against the tip of the tube when applying it the pressure will force it into the crack.

Customer Reviews

10.1 oz. Asphalt Driveway Crack and Joint Filler is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product With concerns from others that have reviewed this product, I was cautious with my purchase and did a small test crack on my asphalt driveway. Like other positive reviews, the material comes out with a hint of brown color (you can see this color if you flip the tube upside down in the store). But as previously indicated, as it dries, it turns black. Drying time was as indicated, about 2 hours for the topical surface, and about 24 hours for it to dry completely. In purchasing more, I had larger cracks (slightly pushing the half inch recommendation), and also deep (1 inch down). While this required lots of material, it worked well. Also, the larger cracks were met with rain shortly 3 hours after application. (I live in the mountains and the weather is RANDOM). Fortunately, the minimal drying time was enough to keep it from going bad. After a couple weeks, the cracks are perfectly sealed and look professional (for a crack that is). I recommend a plastic flat tool to manipulate the obviously sticky material. This allowed me ensure it was packed down in the crack and tidy up the surface area for a flat finish. I did notice that upon drying it did retract a tiny bit, which I found beneficial since I have to snow blow and don't want to risk catching an edge and reopening the crack). Also applied within the recommended temperature range, but at the bottom end (around 50 degrees).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product When applying this filler to cracks on the asphalt driveway, don't smooth out the bead, or the cracks will be exposed again after the filler dried. Instead, overlay the bead a bit of higher than the surrounding area. See the attached photo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for filling gaps and dips, not just cracks. My big complaint about caulking is usually a cheap gun. Get a better gun. I used the filler for more than cracks. I used it to correct and level the driveway where it meets the street. I also used it to fill in the groove between the driveway and the pad. Use a trowel to sculpt or flatten the strip of filler into the shape you need. Use paint tape to strike a line on street to stop the filler, later the sealer, in a straight line. Also use the tape to protect the edge between the garage and pad. Use a trowel to level crack filler you put in a crack. There is not a lot in the tube, so buy some extra tubes--you can always return them. If you are new to caulking guns, ask the salesperson to show you how to draw back the pushrod. Also, be sure after you cut the end off the spout to puncture the seal in the tube with either the needle on the caulking gun, or with a long nail or piece of clothes hanger. The filler will flow out so be careful it does not spurt or drip. You can clean off tools, hands, etc. with BBQ lighter fluid. Water will not clean it up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Part of the plan I had never done this before. I read the reviews for other products on the HD website. I didn't want to use the hot products. So I got the bucket of this product to fill the big cracks with a towel. When it dried it showed some small cracks from shrinkage. (Costanza!) I used this product with a caulk gun to fill those cracks, as well as the smaller ones in the driveway. I was really happy that I got both versions. ,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Filled the small cracks nicely. We'll see how it holds up during the winter. Used at about 60' F. Flowed nicely. Filled some narrow, but deep cracks between asphalt driveway and concrete walkway. Wanted to avoid water getting in during winter and free/thaw cracking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very competent asphalt crack filler This product filled cracks up to 1/2" in my asphalt driveway with no difficulty. At first I was concerned because it is a chocolate color when first applied, but turns black when dry. Of course, cracks are notoriously difficult to keep sealed, but this sealer seems to have the necessary elasticity when dry to keep them sealed for awhile.

Same problem as some others, product was unusable as it had dried out or settled in the tube. Bought 3 tubes, one i could not get any out, one worked for about 1/2 of the tube and the last i used all but about a 1/3 of the tube. I had bought this product before and it worked pretty well and was sure that was what I wanted to use again, but not now. If the manufacturer cannot keep good tubes in the store, why bother.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disapointing Performance as crack filler This material may be suitable to seal hairline cracks but it shrinks to paint thickness upon curing! I filled 1/4" deep by 3/8" wide cracks in my asphalt driveway making sure to get 100% fill. One week later the cracks were 3/16" deep by 3/8" wide but shiny black. It may be a crack sealer but it sure isn't a crack filler.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy again! I would buy this product again. It worked great. I used it two months ago and it still is working great. It comes out like caulk and I used a small putty knife to spread it. This way both sides of the crack are covered. I went back to buy some more but the store stopped selling it, so having to order it online.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Only 2/3 was usable. Don't waste your time. I bought 6 tubes to fill a bunch of cracks in my driveway. Every tube worked wonderfully at first then gradually became thicker and thicker until it was impossible to push any more out. It's obvious that the filler either dried up near the bottom, or sat for so long on the shelf that enough of the suspended solids settled to the bottom to make it clay-thick. It became increasingly difficult to squeeze the filler out. The first 1/3 took less than 30 seconds to squeeze, the 2nd 1/3 took 15 minutes of maximum pressure. Exhausting and extremely frustrating! I ended up cutting the tubes open to apply the remaining filler using a putty knife - what a mess and it doesn't look very good in the areas where I used the knife. The manufacturer should put the date of production on the tube, as many others have said (2+ years ago!!), but they clearly don't listen to their customers. Don't waste your time on this stuff ; you could get stuck with the same problem that myself and others have. In summary, the first 1/3 worked perfectly, the second 1/3 was difficult and frustrating, the final 1/3 was thick as clay and I had to cut open the tube to apply it with a putty knife. I suggest you pick a different product (and manufacturer).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from happy with purchase the latex asphalt sealant was easy to squeeze out and apply and smooth out, I was able to drive over the sealant in 24hrs - great purchase - the local store was out the day i went there, and they said it MIGHT be several weeks before they might get more - so I went back to the store then and they still didn't have any in stock, so i decided get online and order it myself. In a couple of days I received them by UPS! I was very satisfied with the order/puchase/delivery of the cartridges s of sealant. Sincerely,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I used a tube of this to seal the gap between my asphalt driveway and concrete garage floor. Over the years ants have been gradually digging out the sand between the two. It's easy to apply and smooths nicely with a fingertip. I'm hoping this will stop the ants and keep water from getting underneath and freezing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from harderned in the tube the crack filler was hard in the tube. I broke my caulking gun trying to get it out. after 1.2 hour and very little progress I just cut the tube open and put on nitril gloves. scooped it out with a finger and forced it down in the crack. Must be out of date but there was no date on the tube.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from old stock? I read the reviews and bought 2 tubes anyway. The contents of the first tube were so dry that it was almost impossible to push it out of the caulking gun, and I have a grip like a vise! The second tube was just impossible to get out. Really disappointed in Home Depot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from unusable I broke my caulking gun trying to get it out of the tube. Nothing - the stuff was as hard as rock. I bought it less than 6 months ago, so it should still have been good. I don't know if Home Depot or the manufacturer is to blame, but this tube was way past its shelf life.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Product EVER! I don't usually write reviews, but in this case felt I really needed to. This stuff is awful. When trying to apply the tube constantly clogged even though this stuff is so thin and runny. I ended up having to cut the tube open and apply with a paint stick. Don't waste your money. I will stick with stuff I had previously bought at Lowes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lumpy Difficult to push through caulking gun. A lot of the product came out of the back of the gun. Had to toss gun and buy a new one. I purchased four tubes of this filler. After using one I returned the rest. Dalton Enterprises gave me a Home Depot credit for the whole order. Extra credit will cover the cost of the new caulking gun. The company has excellent customer service. Hopefully, they will correct the lumpiness problem soon.
