How long can you leave used bags unattended in the toilet?

If I had this for a small cabin and only used it a couple of times on sporadic weekends, can it sit months?
Asked by: Mike
I have left mine for about 2 month at the cabin. Had no issue. No leaks or odor!

Can this be used full time in a tiny home?

Could a couple use this full time in a tiny home? More specifically, can you extend the cartridge life by adding peat moss or saw dust scoops to urine like a regular composting toilet. Could we save the flushes for #2?
Asked by: SaveOnBags
Yes it could but would need to consider cost of liners.

Anyone bashing this guy, why don't you think to give it some time and understanding. This isn't some huge money sucking corporation. This is an entrepreneur that had an idea and make it a real thing. The toilet has a couple of quirks, but if you understand that it works fine. I use pine shavings when there is urine inside the bag and a little more toilet paper. This has resolved the issue of the urine coming back into the next clean bag after a flush. This also helps with any possible gas that comes out when it has been sitting for a month or so with the same bag. In total we really like this toilet so far.

I purchased this dry flush toilet for my camp which has no internal plumbing. It works exactly as described. Now, I have read through some of the reviews and feel the need to comment on the negatives. It is true that there are occasions where not all of the “liquid “ flushes. I credit this to the fact that I do not flush with every trip to the potty. Personally, I am not willing to spin/flush for such small amounts of one trip to pee. I flush when #2 has been done. I also find that the times when urine stays in the bowl when flushed happen when the cartridge is closer to the end of the roll. So I keep track and around use 13 I flush it a few times and change the cartridge. While the bag given does the job of containing the Mylar flushed bag, I always bag the whole thing up in a heavy duty trash bag as well. I keep the toilet in a well ventilated (has a window) small room. Plus I use Lysol spray in the bowl with every flush. I’ve read some use kitty liter and I will have to try that. Overall I am very happy with this toilet. I never expected this toilet to be as good as a regular flush toilet. It’s exactly what I expected and then some. I don’t have to deal with compost or anything like that. I hope this helps anyone trying to decide if this is right for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great off the grid toilet I have this toilet in an off grid custom travel trailer (Tiny House). It's located on a lot that has a stunning view but cannot accommodate a septic. Although I was going to use a composting toilet at first, I came across this product and thought i would try that first. It did not disappoint! First, you can put this anywhere, even in a very small bathroom. It's very light to lift and position. Second, there is NO ODOR when using this toilet. The cartridges last for a few days (depending on how many people you have) so we just keep an extra on hand. Finally, and most important, it's very easy to dispose when it's full. It ends up being double bagged (again, no odor) and it's not too hard to lift. I LOVE that it's made in the US. The battery lasts a long time without needing recharge and we use the generator to charge it. Thanks for making such a great toilet!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worked great at first, but then.... It works great for a few flushes, then it has trouble trapping liquid and it seeps out into the black disposal bag and even the bowl. This causes a horrible smell during every flush after that. Sometimes it takes 2-3 or more flushes to clear the bowl (which means I only get about 10 flushes out of a cartridge). When I went to empty the disposal bag I found liquid in the bowl and had to take the whole toilet outside to empty and disinfect it, it was pretty disgusting. I did everything according to the directions, and reached out to the company (I'll update if I get a reply). I think that the issue is that the fans inflate the bag too much, pushing liquids up and out instead of trapping them. It's a great product in theory, but think maybe it needs some design modifications, or maybe my unit is just defective. As

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great alternative when you can't have a regular toilet We put this toilet in the guest room we built above our garage. There was no hope of being able to run a line to our septic system without breaking the bank. After reading the mixed reviews on this, we took a chance and it has worked extremely well. We just put in our 3rd cartridge and it has been a learning experience. Other people have mentioned that urine will leak up when you "flush"... this is true. I read a couple reviews who said to just put a lot of toilet paper in and it will absorb the urine. That sorta worked, but we still found that urine would still leak up - just not as much. So, while changing my cat litter box, I had an idea... how about absorbing cat litter? I didn't want to use clay or crystals for fear that they might rip the foil bags. So we bought the wood pellet cat litter and it worked great! So we now keep a container with the litter in it next to the toilet with a scoop and it's no problem to just put a scoop of liter on the urine before "flushing". I have found it's best to only enough pellets in to absorb the urine, no more, because it will take up room in the toilet. We have also found that this is the solution to being able to use it to urinate more than once per "flush".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dry Flush Toilet Gives Strong Performance If you want to include your wife, daughter, girlfriend or simply a modest person on your camping trips, this bit of ESSENTIAL luxury will do it. We spent a family weekend at a bare bones cabin in the woods. We brought this toilet with us. We simply placed it on a 3' X 4' piece of plywood inside a large "pop-up" style 4-sided umbrella tent. We left an insect candle burning inside all night. No bugs, no smells, no sounds, and the toilet functioned flawlessly for seven people. It did need to have a cartridge change after one busy day's use (13-16 flushes would be my guess, although I was not keeping count), The refill bag change was easy and "clean". I would recommend having extras on hand, as we did. This "IS" a bit pricey for a camping potty, but save yourself an earful by pleasing the wife with this one. It made a HUGE difference in allowing our outing to be successful for everyone!.

I'm adding a review to help fellow consumers...I would NOT repurchase this toilet even though it seemed like a perfect solution. We are renovating a vintage Airstream and liked the idea of not dealing with a black tank, especially for boondocking. However....like MANY other reviewers, we've had continuous issues with urine seeping back through the twisted bags. We've tried throwing in paper towels or extra tp to soak it up with limited and mixed results. If the trailer gets warm and there is waste sitting in the toilet, you have odor. Plus it's kind of gross. Other negatives-refills are expensive and hard to get. Must plan ahead and have plenty on hand for trips. Also-you have to keep a mental count of how many "flushes" you've used on a refill. If it runs out in the middle of the night you can be stuck without a toilet, unless you go to the trouble (and noise) of switching the cartridge. We are still using our Laveo until we can figure out a black tank option. I really liked this concept and am disappointed in the actual function.
