Q:Heater will not stay on after releasing gas button

Answer This Question

A:  You have to hold the gas in the light position for a little while when lighting. The flame is sustained by a thermal coupling which has to heat up enough to sustain it. This should only take about 30 seconds but if you let go of the gas button too soon, it will extinguish. this is especially true in cold conditions. If that doesn't work (or if it seemingly stopped working), that part is likely defective and needs to be replaced.

        A:  Josh, the top of this unit will produce a LOT of heat (it can cover a 25ft area). I would be extra careful about the top being too close to any structure.

              Valve is straight out and doesn't fit safely!
              It's no wonder these aren't being sold now. The valve attached to the lamp comes straight off the hose not leaving enough room to safely connect it to the propane tank. The gas hose ends up completely kinked and smashed against the outer metal barrel cover. I assembled one without installing the tank until a month later, too bad the box is long gone. The second one I bought is still in the box and going back. Stay away from this. Hopefully Home Depot will step up and make this right.

                It worked ok once or twice then just stopped staying lit. It will stay lit if I literally stand there and hold the button in, but die as soon as try to let it go. Don’t buy this piece of junk.

Please note that the unit is equipped with a thermocouple that needs to be warmed up before each use Holding the knob in for 20 seconds after it ignites allows the thermocouple to warm up and disengage the safety mechanism which will shut off the gas flow.
