They are both code complient. Wrapping around screw head and tighting well takes a few more minutes an outlet but you never have a current flow condition.

Does this accept aluminium wiring?

No. You need a receptacle rated CO-ALR. As an aside, consider putting an AFCI breaker on any circuits with aluminum wire, this will detect arcing.

All the HD stores I have shopped in have the almond colored devices. Your must have been temporarily out of stock. Oh by the way, HD stocks these devices by color, sometimes in seperate locations in the same department. You can also order online with store pickup or home delivery.

No you can not . On top off that you should never wire a receptacle in a pass through configuration . There needs to be joints in the wire with tails feeding the receptacle .

This is self grounding? So i would be able to swap this in with an old 2 prong outlet without additional wiring?

NO. To install this device, you must have either an equipment ground wire (usually bare, sometimes green insulated) or the box must be metal AND grounded through the cable jacket (metal jacket such as BX or AC) or through metal raceway (conduit, EMT).

Can I use this outlet to replace a 2 prong outlet in a metal box with BX wiring? I previously us...

Yes, it will replace a two prong, however, to meet current code requirements you will need to run a ground wire to building ground... Also, the black wire will go to the hot side of the receptical and the white to the nuetral side. Ground to the green screw. Be sure to "bond" (connect) the receptical-ground to the metal box.

what is a double pole outlet

Asked by faxon July 4, 2016

Answers

The "double pole" feature on this outlet refers to the fact that you can run separate circuits on each receptacle. Each side of the outlet has two screws. They are connected by a common conductor. There is a small bridge that can be snipped out that allows each receptacle to be wired to a unique circuit if desired. That would allow something like an "always hot" lower receptacle and a switched upper receptacle. Most upper end outlets have this feature. What's really nice about this "Preferred" grade outlet is that it also has brass plates on the terminal screws that capture the wire and provide more surface area to keep the connection secure. You aren't just relying on the screw heads and the loop you put wire.

(What's this)
These outlets are well made, really inexpensive and easy to install. I don’t know why this is cheaper than the 2-prong one but they are both inexpensive. They also sent me cover plates with them that I wasn’t expecting. That was nice. I always buy extra outlets, switches and cover plates to keep in the house because they are so inexpensive and it avoids a special trip to the store when I need one. One thing I discovered looking at the website is they have some great videos there to explain how to do electrical work. Many home owners are afraid of doing electrical work but it is not hard if you are careful. The video on how to install a new outlet explains really well how to do it. There is one thing I would change in the video though. They show shutting off the power to the outlet and then checking with a voltage tester to ensure the power really has been shut off. I would recommend testing the outlet before you shut off the breaker so you can make sure your voltage tester is working. Then when you shut off the breaker and test it again you know it is really off. In the video they have a nicely labeled breaker but in most houses it is often not as clear which breaker goes with which outlet.

This product was to replace some cheaper electrical connectors. What started as a simple replacing of a few broken ground face slot outlets turned into a MAJOR project. Some other things found was some of the screw in type with broken insulators, most of the house had the snap in the back ones. Some of those snap in wire ones, the wires came out without the assistance of tools just a finger pull. As a result, all the outlets in the house have been replaced by myself (non electrical-mechanical background). Although my home is considered new, it still had installed those inferior snap in wires connectors for electrical outlets. What really makes this project so awesome is the fact the company which makes these are "American Made". You cannot go wrong. I did add the photo of the outlets laid out and I used wood glue in the outlets to prevent anyone from trying to use these fire hazards again before disposing in the trash.

Horrible Design
Whoever designed the connection points for this should be fired, or at least be forced to retake a few years of school. It's almost impossible to get the wire past all the lips and edges, hook the tip of the wire, then get it under the screw and tab. Should be a 4 minute job to change one out, not a 30 minute ordeal ast you fight to get your wires "just right" so they will actually fit. Very very very poor design.
