It could work, however GE and others make an outdoor version similar to this one.

Can this be integrated with Google Home Hub?

Asked by CB May 14, 2020

Answer

Not directly since the device uses Zwave protocol, but Wink connects to almost everything out there, so I connected almost 95 of my devices of all types to Wink. Google does work with Wink, so I can use the Google Assistant to voice control everything, or the Wink App, or Google Home. Works well.

It will work if you set it up using a hub. The hub "should" still send commands to the system if scheduled or triggered to do so, you just won't have control remotely through the internet. The Z-wave communications are not internet based or dependent like wifi. This is all dependent on the hub you use. It may work that if your hub is able to sense a wifi outage as an "input" trigger, and the hub has the logic functionality to run based on the trigger, it could power cycle this switch to reboot the modem. I haven't tried this on mine, but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. Again, this is hub dependent.

(What's this)
It you are using Z-wave devices you must have one of these plug-in switches in your network. They are the easiest device possible to pair with your hub. Because they plug in there is no installation. You can take it to the hub, pair it and then move it anywhere in reach of your hub. Its mobility is its greatest attribute. It allows you to convert any receptacle of even a grounded extension cord into a Z-wave switch. That way you can quickly find out if you are in range of the hub and if you are at 15-amps if is capable of handling most any household load. Okay, I like the product and highly recommend it. It is useful in many ways. Especially, if you are in the process of developing your Z-wave network. Now, the rest of this review is how I used it to solve a difficult problem and is an example rather than a review. Leviton calls it an appliance switch. But other than a lamp or an exhaust fan, I cannot think of many appliances that I would want on my network. But don't just think appliances. I have a 600-watt transformer that powers my low voltage landscape lighting. It is plugged into a receptacle that is controlled by a mechanical timer. The timer must be adjusted ever few weeks for sun rise and set and reset or anytime there is a power outage. I would like to eliminate the timer by replacing it with this switch so that I can use the Wink scheduler. The transformer and timer are in a cement and stone boathouse that is a few feet away from the house. The hub is about 50 feet away in the house which is also stone and concrete block. The distance is not the problem, it's the density of the walls in between. Plus, the boathouse is slightly below grade. So, when I first plugged the switch in I was not surprised that it would not come back on-line. Because a Z-wave network is a mesh network where each Z-wave device acts as a repeater. I replaced a switch that controls a pump for a water slid with a Z-wave switch. It was on the outside wall of the house within 20 feet of the transformer. That helped but did not provide the signal strength for reliable operation. Next, replace another light switch this time in the boathouse. It kind of split the distance and number of walls to be penetrated or circumvented. That worked. It is slow but it has been working reliably for several weeks. I could never have gotten it done if I had not been able to use this switch to find out if I had signal and it I didn’t what it took to get it back. I included pictures of the switch plug with the transformer and the old timer. Which I intend to remove after I have gained more confidence in the reliability of all of the piece parts.

Z-WAVE CONTROLER FOR PLUG-IN 15 AMP APPLIANCE MODULE FOR AN ADT HOME SECURITY SYSTEM

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
An easy to install Z-WAVE plug in wall outlet for a 15 AMP service. I found it almost too easy to install in an ADT Security Home System. The instructions may appear vague so knowledge of the Z-WAVE operation and setup can vary but in my case was straight forward and no issues were encountered. Instructions do explain how to handle issues including how to reset the Z-WAVE wall switch to factory defaults. Plugged it in and logged into the ADT control page on my home computer and selected "add a device". When the page asked I just pressed the "include" button on the module (actually the only button on the device so you can't go wrong) and within a few minutes it was operational. The light on the module went from green to amber. I had the appliance already plugged into the device and turned on to supply it with a load. As soon as it appeared as an added item I was able to turn the appliance on and off again from the ADT screen. Programming for off and on times are the same as used for any other Z-WAVE product in this system. Keep in mind that this is a 15 AMP switch so it can be used with an appliance up to 15 AMP or bulbs up to 1800 Watts. It will handle incandescent, fluorescent, CFL or LED type bulbs up to 1800 Watts or a 1/2HP motor / 120V / 60Hz. Total time from opening the package to use of the product in the ADT system was about 30 minutes mostly waiting for the Z-WAVE system and network to remesh.

(What's this)
This is another of the Leviton family of modules that works with Wink or any other controller utilizing the Z-wave or Z-wave Plus communication protocol. This particular module model (Z-wave Plus) is similar to the Leviton plug-in dimmer module, but only turns "on" or "off" the plugged-in load - no dimming. It accepts 3-pronged (grounded) and 2-pronged plugs. It's really easy to physically install (just plug it in to an existing outlet), and easy to set-up on Wink. Just open the Wink app on your phone, scan the box barcode, and follow the prompts. Pretty simple and no wiring needed. I use it to control our outside deck lighting by plugging the low voltage transformer into the module and having Wink automatically turn the lights on/off at sunset. Works great. Would also be good for controlling holiday lighting you'd normally plug into an inside garage outlet. This upgraded module also allows for local control by pushing the indicator light button on the module.

This switch is really easy to install. Its very basic and easy with no complex procedures. You simply follow the instructions and pair it with your controller. I paired mine with my Vera and it was done in seconds. You can see in the picture that its not too large either. I like the 15 amp part because now I can control large items. I currently only use it to turn reboot my router at nights but the uses are endless. There is a switch on the block that can be used to manually override if needed. It simple and easy and works flawlessly.

(What's this)
Decora Smart plug In Outlet, z-wave Plus technology R51-DZPA1-RW. First this is a new model of the DZPA1 Make sure you look for Z-wave Plus on the box or for the R51-DZPA1-RW on the bottem of the box .The addition of Z-Wave Plus is backwards compatible with regular Z-Wave technology but will not work with Leviton's new WIFI switches or its new app. It will work with older home hubs but you won't be able to utilize all the enhancements of the Plus! With the Z-Wave plus energy management, range and Mesh quality is improved . Transmission time to hub node are faster along with a smaller physical devise with lower energy draw are additional enhancements. Lastly it's capabilities allow for over air firmware updates. At writing the plus looks to be $5.00 more then the previous model without the plus status. Something to consider is that your hub control Older Smarthings , Wink hubs along with others manufactures that don't have Z-wave plus protocol will work but most of the enhancements will not. The Wink 2 and newer rev Smarthings do have the capabilities. For most the Mesh quality will be an important addition allowing more routes to a wider selection of other Nodes. In short it helps get signals get to places that might otherwise be weak signal areas by going from one to the other instead of from your hub to specific switch or plug. Set up is straight forward and pairs well with old and new Wink and Samsung hubs. Is seems faster reaction time with the newer versions hubs then the old . This product is much easier then hard wire in comparable products just plug it into a wall socket and pair with you hub and you now have a smart circuit . The DZPA1 is designed for lighting ,small appliances with ratings 1800W -120VAC incandescent , 5A-120 VAC LED/CFL, 1800VA Florescent, 15A 120VAC resistive, 1/2 HP -120VAC. Motor. You can also switch the product manually from the Z Wave plus unit. So if your just getting started in building a home automation network the newer switch above probably is your best bet as having the latest rev could be an advantage with newer home hubs protocol etc. if your adding to an existing older network there are still positives ,if your looking for a stand alone product you might want to look at the Leviton WI FI plugs and switches since they have access thru there free app however I haven't seen the Wi Fi available in portable plug in units.

Leviton's 15-amp smart-switch is easy to set up. I use the WINK-2 hub to control all my smart home devices. In less than 5 minutes, its connected and ready for use. Since this is a switch, not a dimmer, you can control up to 15-amps, equal to most home outlets capacity. Set up via the WINK app is simple and easy to follow step by step. I use it to control lighting such as a Xmas tree, printer, even clothes iron. You can turn on the appliance or light either through your smart phone or tablet, or just push the button located on the switch's front. It can be used to control lights, etc., on a schedule or instantly. Since the WINK automatically shows up on my ECHOE device, Alexa can turn on or off the device via voice controls. Great for turning off/on a light while watching TV, shutting off a power strip when you leave the office or what have you. Best of all no subscription fees.
