You can use 14-2, 14-3, 12-2 or 12-3, but only 14 AWG wires will be accepted in the back wire feature.

Do you have to put the wires on the screws and stab two in the back or can you stab all four of them in the back, because I kinda like that.

If using 14 AWG, wires can be either stabbed into the back wire feature or terminated under the screws. For long term reliability, never use the back-stab holes.

I want to replace a 15 amp gfci duplex outlet that has 6 wires connected (3 blaack 3 white)

If that outlet is required to be GFCI protected do not replace it with a regular duplex receptacle. Otherwise it would be best to pigtail the blacks and pigtail the whites and terminate under the side screws.

Check with the local AHJ about what version of the NEC has been adopted in your area. The latest versions of the code require "TR" Tamper Resistant receptacles, but older versions do not.

Regular duplex receptacles have no "Line" or "Load" terminals. Blacks go to the brass screws and whites go to the silver screws.

Are these outlets approved for use in homes with aluminum wiring?

Asked by Robin November 30, 2015

Answers

Sorry to hear that you have aluminum wire. There are precautions that you must take with aluminum wire. Make sure that you use the screw down connections and not the push-in connections. Also make sure that they are very tight. Since aluminum oxidizes, make sure the wire is clean and bright. Using a little dielectric silicone compound (available at any auto parts store) will prevent the wire from corroding at the connection point.

Do leviton 15amp tamper resistant outlets allow for 20amp pass through?

Asked by Jim December 15, 2018

Answers

The outlet is rated at 15 amps for a reason. Passing 20 amps through it will generate heat which will damage the outlet over time to a point where it could get hot enough to ignite a fire. If you have a 20 amp appliance, I strongly recommend using an outlet rated at 20 amps or higher. Higher is always safer.

We put an interlocking tile backsplash in our kitchen. The tile has light and dark colors so we decided to convert to black toggle switches, receptacles and stainless wall plates. My wife loves it. Happy wife happy life.

What can I say? It's just a run-of-the-mill duplex receptacle. But it's well constructed, and after installing thousands of receptacles in my day, I can say with confidence that it will likely last for a long time to come. A+

Great price, fast replacement! We buy hundreds of these since every time a tenant moves out, we replace their outlets, which are often times original. We've had a few cases where the old outlet is so old and brittle, the plastic breaks. Often times the plastic is attached to a metal part of the outlet, which then touches the neutral and hot, causing big sparks or black burn marks! For under $1 for an outlet and a face plate, I have peace of mind. With the power turned off, I can do each one in under 2 minutes. Attached picture shows the 1st 3 outlets I removed.. They literally shattered when I touched them. Extremely dangerous

My home outlets were getting loose in the prongs causing my plugs to fall out way too easily. They were the kind that were backstabbed too which isn't too safe. I've replaced a dozen and a half of my outlets with the Leviton in the almond color. They have been great with no problems. Only one outlet in one pack of 10 had loose prongs which I couldn't use. The rest have been tight. Nice to be able to find the almond color too which fits my house colors.
