Product Details

Leviton SmartlockPro GFCIs are designed to meet the latest UL standard for auto-monitoring (self-test). Our complete line of self-test GFCIs periodically conduct an automatic internal test to confirm that it can respond to a ground fault. With the slimmest profile on the market, the device allows for fast and easy installation, while Leviton's patented reset lockout mechanism prevents reset of the GFCI if it is not wired or operating correctly.
  • For an added layer of protection, the GFCI regularly conducts an automatic internal test to confirm that it can respond to a ground fault
  • Provides continuous ground fault protection - detects and trips on actual ground fault even when self-test is being conducted
  • Status indicator light provides simple, intuitive feedback on power and protection status as well as indication of line/load reversal
  • Patented lockout action prevents reset if GFCI is damaged and cannot respond to a ground fault

Q:CAN THIS BE USED FOR RESIDENTIAL ALUMINUM WIRING?
    by|Feb 6, 2022
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  I installed GFCI Alarm outlet to protect our vertical freezer in our garage, if tripped. Our home was built in 2007... I'm uncertain if it's aluminum wiring, but the installation was simple and straight forward. While the alarm is not very loud... it works as advertised.

Q:If the GFI was in an upstairs bathroom would you be able to hear the sound downstairs?

      Answer This Question

A:  That’s tough to answer since everyone’s home is different, and has different levels of noise depending on lots of factors. If no other noise present and the distance isn’t too far, I’d say yes.

        Answer This Question

A:  No, it has to say WR for weather resistant. You could put it inside and supply an weather resistant tamper resistant receptacle outside off the load side of this device. By doing this you will hear it inside your house if the outside receptacle causes it to trip.

A:  Yes you can but it need a whether proof cover, my customer's like it so they know when is trip

Easy to install, tested the GCI fault and the alarm works as advertised. Only minor thing to notice is that the outlet plug in has what looks like Teflon to keep moisture out, making plugging in the first few times hard. It is easier to plug in items after about 4 times. Will look for this item in any future replacement.

Perfect for alerting you to a nearby outlet that has been tripped. I’m using it on my high efficiency gas furnace in the basement that has a small electric condensate pump. The previous GFCI tripped a few times and the pump overflowed each time. The new GFCI hasn’t tripped yet, but if it ever does we would be able to hear it on the first floor if we’re not being too rowdy. It’s not piercingly loud, but it’s better than nothing. I also didn’t need a blaring sound to wake me in the middle of the night if the power goes out. This outlet won’t make noise if the power goes out, only if the outlet is tripped which is perfect for our situation.

        Nice feature to GFCI protection
The Leviton audible GFCI is a neat addition. Thinking why would you need an audible trip alert; certain applications can certainly use such a feature. First off, the audible alert only works when you still have power to the Leviton GFCI. If a circuit breaker trips, the audible won't function. The audible feature will alert you in the event the the GFCI itself has tripped because of a ground fault detected. This can be useful for basement sump pumps, pool lighting, and certain household appliances such as a refrigerator or freezer. If a ground fault is detected, the Leviton GFCI will trip, dropping power from the outlet component of the GFCI and it will sound an audible alert that annunciates the trip condition. The alert can also be tested by depressing the TEST button on the GFCI and is silenced by depressing the RESET button. The Leviton GFCI can also protect other outlets in series downstream of the GFCI but you have to wire properly at the Leviton GFCI. The audible alert isn't too loud. In fact I barely hear it outside the room it is located in. There is a diagnostic LED on the bottom of the Leviton GFCI that indicates the condition of the GFCI. The Leviton conducts a self test and if it passes the LED is green. If it fails the test the LED changes to red and indicates the GFCI needs to be replaced. There is no light on the LED when the GFCI is tripped (ground fault protection) - as I understand it, the LED only indicates pass/fail of the GFCI self test. The tamper resistant feature works easily and blocks each plug independently. The outlet is deep, measuring 1-3/4 inches from outlet face to back. Make certain you have a deep outlet box to facilitate wiring. Best use: - anywhere you need GFCI and want notification when ground fault has tripped such as basement sump pump - kitchen and bath areas where you need both GFCI and tamper resistant feature - need a self checking GFCI

        Great product
The interesting concept behind this outlet is that it beeps when its been tripped. At first you might wonder why you would need something like this. The reason I use it is because I have several outlets daisy-chained together so I dont have to buy so many GFI outlets. The issue can be is if it ever trips, where is the outlet that needs to be reset. So I like the fact that there is a beep. My wife can easily find the outlet that needs to be reset without having to dig around. The wiring is also pretty good. The terminals in the back can hold two wires per post which is really nice when you are trying to wire several lines in the same box. Nice easy install and great idea.

Shock protection, easy to install, audible alert
This GFI replacement outlet is from a well know manufacturer that has a good record of performance and reliability. It provides protection to the outlet as well as a pass through to other outlets downstream if they are wired to the “line” terminals. The terminals offer multiple connect methods with an easy slip in and clamp down wire connect system or you can use the screw terminals. It has a self-test feature which provides enhanced operational safety. It also has an audible trip alarm to join the LED operational display light. Outlet is rated at 15Amp. Tamper resistant plug receptacles and slimmer design add to the features of this unit

        Smarter and smaller than before!
This GFCI receptacle goes way above and beyond ones I have installed in the past! These are getting smarter. This one will test itself periodically. It has an audible alarm that is sounded if it detects a ground fault (in addition to removing power of course). It has LED status lights that show if power is present, or tripped, or absent. If the unit decides that it is defective, you can no longer reset it. Contact slots are blocked unless a proper plug is inserted into the receptacle. In addition to the smarts listed above, it has a low profile (just over 1” deep) making it easier to get into an older shallow gang box. Instructions are very clear, with good illustrations in both English and Spanish I replaced a defective GFCI receptacle in a bathroom. The project took about 15 minutes including the walk to the distribution box and fetching a light etc. The first time it is powered up it sounds its alarm forcing you to reset it. This teaches you what it sounds like and how to reset it. I kept the card that came in the packaging, explaining how to suppress the alarm too, nearby in the medicine cabinet. Limited 2-year warranty.

The beeping is great.... until things go wrong
This GFCI outlet was acquired to replace a standard outlet in the bathroom. The existing outlet had two sets of wires going to the plug, which is pretty standard. To its credit, the manual is extremely comprehensive, covering a number of different installation scenarios. As the manual suggested, once i determined which pair of wires was the line, i connected those first. No problem. The outlet test and resets as expected. But for some inexplicable reason, whenever i attempted to connect the other pair to the load terminals (either white or hot) it immediately caused the GFCI to trip. This could be bad wiring or a ground problem, but the house is a tract home, so that's unlikely. None the less, i had to tie the second "load" wires straight to the line terminals. I still get the GFCI functionality of the outlets, but the load wires will be live in the case of a trip. The fancy new feature is the beeping on a tripped circuit. It's a great indicator to let you immediately know why there's no power. But i could imagine certain scenarios when the outlet goes bad and needs to be replaced. You can't just use another outlet, as this one will beep relentlessly until attended to.

        Great update
We needed to replace an old, classic type outlet in a bathroom for several reasons. We decided to replace the old one with this advanced Leviton GFCI OUTLET. Because my husband is trained in electrical things, the change was simple. He just moved the wires over from the old one to the new one. This outlet self-tests every 15 minutes to be sure that protected power is available. The alarm will let you know when a fault has occurred. This outlet had the Leviton patented Leviton reset lockout if the device cannot respond to a ground fault. The dimensions of the new outlet are larger than my old outlet so the new outlet barely fit into the existing box. It is a good GFCI outlet.
