Decora Smart Wi-Fi Plug-In Dimmer, No Hub Required, Works with Alexa and Google Assistant

This is the best IOT product I have ever used! I’m using this plug-in dimmer to control an LED lamp we use for giving the house “at-home” look. Installation and setup are really easy. The app on my Android phone easily guided me through installation and set-up. One really nice feature for my application: since My Leviton knows my ZIP code, it knows what time dawn and dusk are. The My Leviton app allows you to control events based on dawn/dusk (+/- two hours) instead of just the time. Although I don’t use the dimmer feature, I did try it out on the LED bulb. Works well, no flickers. Setup with Alexa is very easy. After you have the dimmer and app installed, all you have to do is enable the My Leviton Skill on Alexa and link it to your My Leviton account. I think it took less than 2 minutes to complete the link. I like this enough that I’ve ordered the hard-wired version to control my porch light. One thing you need to keep in mind with a hub-less IOT product, it connects to an external server, so your Wi-Fi and internet connection need to be functioning in order for you to control your lights. The price is on the high side, but I think it’s well worth it because of the functionality offered and the fact that you don’t need to buy a hub.

I have taken to automating my house, and have already installed products from different manufacturers, harnessing them to my iPhone 6S and to devices using the Alexa program. I have become “spoiled” by no longer having to get on my feet to turn on the lights, set the temperature, etc. This was my first Leviton smart device, and it works very well. It took a little research on the Internet to figure out how to connect the device to work with Alexa, but I got it going in about 15 minutes. First, it was necessary to plug it in to the wall outlet, then plug in the appliance (in the “on” position). Then I downloaded the Leviton app to my phone (it’s free), and connected the device to the app. The app leads you through the set-up process, it was easy but you must be in range of the device since it is necessary to press a control button located on the device to establish a wi-fi connection. If you wish to operate the device wireless with VOICE commands via the Alexa-controlled device (such as Amazon Echo), you must first have the Alexa app installed (also free). You do this by first downloading the Leviton app to Alexa, then selecting the “skills” tab under the Alexa settings. Next, search for the Leviton app, download it into Alexa, and sign-in using the Leviton user/password you created when first setting up the Leviton app. Once that is complete, you select the “smart home” tab in the Alexa app, and search for devices. Your new Leviton device should appear. You can modify the name, as I did to be more helpful – such as “bedroom light” or something you’ll easily remember to use as a verbal descriptor when you issue your command, such as “Alexa, turn on bedroom light,” or dim bedroom light, etc. This is truly futuristic stuff (and works amazingly well), but if you are content to proceed using only screen controls, you can still control the plug-in switch using your smart phone. The full dimming capability is available either through the Leviton smartphone app, or as a voice command to Alexa. The app shows the state of the device (on/off, dimming level) from remote locations, so you can activate a device or check its status from anywhere tin the world that you have smart phone access to wi-fi.. As it seems most likely the plug-in would be used for table lamps, it is helpful that the device itself is rather compact, and while it does not hug the wall, neither did it interfere with the placement of furnishings in front of it. The device receptacle accepts only a two-pronged plug, which because it is located on the bottom of the device (not on its face), minimizes the overall protrusion from the wall. The app is quite functional, containing the ability to pre-set the program to turn on/off or dim a light for special occasions (i.e., a party or movie setting), or to set one or more timed weekly/daily schedules, to add devices or add residences. Programming is easy (see app screen attached). If there are any criticism, it is that (1) the written instructions provided with the device, contain no reference how to connect the device to the Alexa program, and (2) the device itself is neither grounded nor does it accommodate a grounded plug appliance. As to the Alexa connection there is a very brief tutorial in the Leviton app for Amazon Alexa or you can search the Internet where Leviton and others have that information. This product works flawlessly, and the ability to set pre-programmed features, extends its usefulness. I would enthusiastically recommend it to a friend who desires to gently step into the world of home automation without requiring any knowledge of electrical wiring.

This is a great product! After downloading the Leviton app, setting up schedules then syncing to Google Home, voice command is vey accurate. It will default to the last brightness used when schedules are used in the Leviton app.

These are not cheap, but man do they work great. My wife and I just put an AirBNB into service and we used this particular product to regulate the LED light strip I put not he front porch. It was a little too bright for what we wanted to this fit the bill just fine. We used it to schedule the light to come on at sundown and turn off at sun up. Easy peasy. I use the regular outlets in this line for other lighted items (like above cabinet lights) to come on and off on a schedule. I hope they expand this product line.

Concept is great. Works for 4 days at a time after understanding awful instructions on paper and app. I then have to reset it up. Put it away for awhile after 2 1/2 weeks. Set it up about ten times. It is 12 ft from network router and behind a small glass/table table (unit not blocked by anything) controlling a table lamp. Finger wore out pushing pointy button to restart set up.

Performs simple on/off by smart phone and timer and voice Google. Dim/bright only works from smart phone starts out full bright with timed on. Also will not dim/bright from Google.

Easy setup, and convenient ways to program with simple timers make this a no brainer. Now my lights are always off when I go to bed. I originally bought this because I couldn’t get a wired dumb dimmer to an outlet, but the extra features make it even more worthwhile. Fantastic product

Works great on my overhead plugged in light. Use app for dimming but has manual on/off button.
