This appears to be a newer version of LifeProof LVP? Comparing a sample of this vs a sample of Sterling Oak, the Beacon Oak is a not quite as thick, has a different type of attached underlayment, and has a longer commercial warranty (10 years vs 5 years for Sterling Oak). Are there any other differences between this new version and the older styles?
Asked by: KK
The new version of Lifeproof Vinyl Plank Flooring, which has a thin smooth cream color paper/foam-type bottom, as compared to the thicker textured black bottom on the previous product, appears to be poorly designed and manufactured. I started the installation of "Beacon Oak Light" in a kitchen earlier this week, and have previously installed the earlier version (in the Sterling Oak color) and Pergo products in other rooms/houses. The earlier version of the Lifeproof flooring is a quality, solidly contstructed product that locks together well, and results in a smooth floor surface. The new version is lighter and more flexible, and the interlocking components have been redesigned, are more fragile, and don't lock together well. I purchased it on-line because the local store did not stock the selected color, and I was unaware of the design changes. There are many more manufacturing defects along the edges of the planks than I noted with the product I purchased in a different in-stock color (Sterling Oak) in early 2019, and the new "Beacon Oak Light" in our partially completed installation (on a flat and solid subfloor) has a number of places with slightly uneven joints for partial sections of planks. This appears to be due to manufacturing quality problems with the new plank design. Because the edges of the planks are very sharp, even slightly uneven flooring could cause someone walking barefoot to cut a foot. I have not had that problem working with the previous Lifeproof product or with Pergo products. Because I had worked with the Lifeproof product before and had no problems with it, and the boxes of "Beacon Oak Light" were identical to the previous product, I had no idea that there would be such significant product design and quality problems, and began with opening the boxes and stacking the planks in a room adjacent to our work area. It wasn't until a co-worker and I finished the first couple of rows, setting aside the worst planks along the way, that we realized the full scope of the design and manufacturing problems, and stopped work. I did submit a review of the new product yesterday, but it doesn't appear to have been posted yet.

I had seen Lifeproof LVP flooring named on a green building site as not containing Phthalates as plasticizers. Is this true and which floors does it apply to? Which are manufactured in the US? Also do these floors use recycled or Virgin vinyl?
Asked by: Marcie
Hello Marcia! Our Lifeproof LVP is manufactured in the US and does not contain Phthalates. Our material is made of virgin vinyl, with a small amount of post industrial recycled material (our internal trim/scrap). Thank you for your interest in LifeProof flooring. - Helen

Short summary: The new Lifeproof color "Beacon Oak Light" I purchased on-line in April, 2019 has a surface appearance similar to previous Lifepoof vinyl plank flooring, but the lower layers are lighter weight and the interlocking components have been redesigned, are more fragile, and don't lock together well. The previous Lifeproof vinyl plank flooring product has a black textured bottom, and in checking the inventory at our local Home Depot (San Leandro, CA), that version is still still being sold, and is most of that store's in-stock product. The new product that I purchased online has a thin smooth cream color paper/foam-type bottom, and in checking this week I only saw one color at the local store with that design. I would definitely immediately return any box with a similar product design in the future, and switch to a different color or product if necessary. I noticed that the display and samples of Beacon Oak Light that I previously saw at the San Leandro store are no longer there, so Home Depot may already be aware of the above problems.

Takes some learning to connect the pieces together but after a while you develop a system. Recommend watching videos on you tube prior to installing to learn the tricks that pros use. Satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this flooring and color! I went through lots of samples of Lifeproof flooring, but in the end we decided to go with beacon oak light. I don’t know why there are several negative reviews about this flooring, but we just had it installed today and it turned out perfectly! The quality was superior and the color is beautiful.

Not great quality control- as 3-4 planks had so much backing material they would not fix close together, left small gap. Not as easy to snap together as directions indicated and final boards in room are huge problem getting to lay flat. Also instructions said to cut with utility knife-no way.
