What would be the best tool to cut these?

Asked by: Hairwiz14
The very best way to cut this for straight cuts is this. Bullet Tools 9 inch EZ Shear Sharpshooter Siding and Laminate Flooring Cutter I lay thousands of feet of this a year. There is nothing that works better than this. Jig saw with a coarse wood blade for corner cuts and buy plenty of blades as this stuff dulls blades in a hurry!

Asked by: JD
Yes. It will be the most resistant of any flooring planks. The darker you go however may catch damage easier (if) a scratch occurs. It's very durable and highly doubtful that will happen

Can this flooring be glued down if desired? Looking for something to put in a laundry room with 3 washers and dryers and more traffic than a normal laundry room. Would like to glue down to provide more protection in case a washer leaked water. Does manufacturer allow this to be glued? Also concerned about how easy it is to scratch. Would this product scratch less that solid piece linoleum?
Asked by: Stan
Please don't glue this down (future owners will thank you), there is never a need to glue plank flooring down unless it's cheap junk.

We decided to go with this product for the thickness, durability and ease of installation even though it is more expensive than most products we were looking at. We also purchased the recommended tapping block for installation. The product was professionally installed. We were happy with the look. However, we have the cleaning people come right after contractor left to clean the house. We were appalled to find several spots where the floor top layer seem to be scraped off or failing. We contacted Home Depot immediately prior to move in. We were told to contact the manufacturer. We filed the problem report with manufacturer on their website as directed by Home Depot. Despite the claim of 100% lifeproof, no one from the company responded to our request. We wrote follow-up email and contacted them again. Still no answer. Very disappointed with the manufacturer and Home Depot. False claim about their products holding up and unresponsive to request for answer.

I loved the look of the floors, however they scratch at the smallest touch. Our builder had the floors protected and covered during the construction of our house. When we uncovered them we found tons of little scratches and found that if you even just walked on the floor wrong with clean shoes you could scratch it. Part of the surface laminate even started peeling on a few boards and this is only about 2 weeks after installation so we thought we had a bad batch. We contacted the company regarding their warranty and they denied it saying that it was installation error or some such nonsense. They even claimed that it was because the floors weren't covered. We obviously had to remove the covering so the inspector could see the scratches. In any case after paying over $20,000 in flooring to this BS company they declined everything. I would never buy from this company again strictly based on the way they handled the warranty and the issue, let alone the poor quality of the floor itself.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Scratches We were so excited to install this flooring in our new home. And really felt like we were splurging by going with this brand...but knew that we needed something that would last and hold up. Our first disappointment was the lack of different patterns in the boards. There were maybe 4 or 5, so you have to pay special attention to ensure a variation in the board pattern/print. But it looked great once we got it installed. Sadly, we we were crushed days later when carefully moving a piece of furniture and a HUGE scratch went down our hallway. I realize this is our mistake, but The description of durability in this flooring is misleading. And our previous flooring that was the cheapest Home Depot had to offer didn’t ever get a single scratch. Within a month of installing this Lifeproof flooring we now have several scratches. They are very visible and were done effortlessly by toddlers! I imagine we will have to replace within a year because it will just look like trash. So disappointing.

I've installed many different flooring products in my 25 years of owning a dozen rental homes. I like the durability of this product so I decided to spend more and give it a try. It's made of PVC so it should be waterproof. It should not expand too much and buckle. It shouldn't scratch or wear out easily. It installed very easily. Probably one of the most easiest floors I've installed. It looks and feels terrific. I went directly over tile, and didn't need to purchase underlayment. There was one problem. Somehow a much lighter peice got in the mix. We didn't notice it until I was 3/4 of the way done. Once this product locks in you cannot go backwards. If you do you have to discard it because it will not lock again. The single peice also had a chip on a corner. All the other pieces did not come close to chipping. So this one piece must of been a defect. It's a shame because otherwise everything else was great. I've sent a letter to the manufacturer to see what they can do for me. I will post an update.

Paid $1,500 for 500 square feet. paid a friend $300 to help install. Roughly $2,000 with tax into it. And within 2 WEEKS there are scratches EVERYWHERE. VERY, VERY, VERY POOR QUALITY! I am very angry to say the least. Our PRIOR SUPER CHEAP flooring previously installed lasted 10 years without any scratches. Diner table chairs scratch the heck out of the floor, it's bad. This flooring is installed with instructions to score with a utility knife and then snap, I should of known it wasn't durable. I am BEYOND DISSAPOINTED! The warranty doesn't cover Scratches. The Lifetime warranty is a joke. Read for yourself. PPPPPLLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAASSSSSEEEEEE DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I do think this is a good product - and I've gotten a lot of compliments on the result. But the ... I do think this is a good product - and I've gotten a lot of compliments on the result. But the key is in the installation and the details (and the room you are doing). I would love to do another room with them knowing what I know now. When I started I was useless, and by the end of the room I was a pro :-) Maybe these tips will help the next person doing it themselves. The instructions provided in the box (and on the website) are all technically accurate, but I think there should have been more focus and emphasis on some aspects of the installation. In any instructions or video on these things, it always looks pretty easy as the examples are usually a fairly done in a fairly rectangular space. But I did this in a kitchen with lots of nooks and crannies and doors and closets. In a complicated space like this the key is - where to start? I realized 3/4 of the way through that my life would have been a lot easier if I started in a different corner! I would highly suggest taking plenty of time to visualize starting in all possible corners of your room, and then visualize laying the planks all the way from start to finish. I was too eager and should have taken the time to do this. Also when planning, I think I was initially misinterpretting the term "floating floor". And of course - the floor is not actually fixed to the floor with nail or glue. But I was thinking the whole floor needs to be able to move with movement in the house. But (in my opinion) the only important factor is the 1/4" spacing around the edges. For example, in my kitchen the oven is sort of in the middle of the space (see photo below). The instructions say to make sure any appliances are in place first and then cut around them. So I figured "I can't plop a heavy oven on top of a floating floor - it won't float!" But I call the manufacturer for support (they were very helpful) and it turns out that's not a problem and they will bear a lot of weight per square inch. The result looks much better that way, but I would have planned things differently if I was thinking that way from the start. The next thing is - the long connections between planks really should be seamless! I was being too gentle at first (not wanting to break planks) when using the tapping block to push them together, and I thought the small gap was acceptable. About 1/3 way through I realized that you really do need to whack them together hard to get them to be seamless. It made a big enough difference that I tore up what I had done and restarted (which does not take too long. Two other related points on this. My tapping block disintegrated about half way through, so I used the metal pull bar for the remainder of the project - and it worked just as well or better. But be careful to NOT tap/hammer on the connecting grooves. You have to hit them hard to connect properly, and that will break the grooves. Be sure to place your block/bar above the connectors. If you partially damage those grooves, you won't get the seamless connection. This was a big one for me. The instructions say you can use a utility knife, which is what I am used to doing when cutting sheet rock. But in my opinion there is NO WAY you can do it this way - unless you have about a week to do it. The surface is very hard, and you will have to make a lot of cuts around little corners and doors and stuff. I gave up on that after one plank, got a Dremel Ultra Max, and it was easy that way. If you are going to do it that way, plan on doing it outside (or in a work room or something) because the cutting creates a lot of dust. I even wore a mask when making the cuts. Two more suggestions... Buy extra. The directions say to buy an extra 10% to allow for mistakes etc. And if I was doing it again, the extra 10% would have been enough because I would make less mistakes at the start. But I also would have redone a few less than perfect cuts if I wasn't worried about running out of planks. And measure precisely! Even a very small closet or weird space. Because even if the space is very small, you may need to go through a few planks. I'd rather have extra on hand and return a box, then being worried about running out. Final point. I put this floor down over an old and somewhat damaged hardwood floor. Cheaper than repairing/refinishing the original floor for a home sale. The instructions suggest that you use a jamb saw to cut out protruding door jambs or other wood work, and then slide the planks underneath. But I figured... if the new owner wants to tear up this floor, then they are stuck with all these cut out pieces that would be tough to replace? And also - in this old house the jambs ran under the old floor, so I don't even think I could have cut them out easily at all? So my solution was to cut the plank around the jambs/woodwork, and then when I put the 1/2" quarter-round shoe moulding down, I mad two outside mitre cuts so the moulding sort of overlapped the jamb and covered most of the cut out. A bit of caulk sealed the gap nicely - you wouldn't know I did this without a very close inspection. See photo below. Sorry for the long review, but would love to save someone a few hours of frustration!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from used these for a bathroom remodel. I rate it... used these for a bathroom remodel. I rate it as good for the DIY. They are tight fitting but some pieces did not fit well together and had to be removed. apx 5% waste from bad sections. Lifting up slightly on the sections helps to install them and do not tap on the flange but try to focus on the surface above the flange so as not to damage the flange. This product is better then others I have used in the past. Being it is being installed in a bathroom I like the tight seal and waterproof ( time will tell on waterproof)They said to use a knife to cut and snap, but a fine tooth blade on a circular saw works better. cut sections from the under side. Once they were snapped together they seem to hold well. I like that they can go from HB to install with placing in room for a while. I would use this product again. GOOD LUCK!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It is a great quality product that is easy to... It is a great quality product that is easy to install. It clicks well and the transitions between planks are very smooth most of the time. I did not try scoring and snapping it but used a miter saw to cut it. The only reason I give it four stars is because it has only 4 printed patterns. See attached picture. And if you are flooring in a relatively small space you will likely get a disproportionate number of one or two kinds of patterns. In any given box I usually found only 2-3 patterns if I was lucky. I had to open up to 5 boxes and separate the different patters so I could put them down without much repetition. Even though there is no color variation between boxes as is often the case with real wood products it is worth opening many boxes just to get a more even distribution of the 4 patterns.
