We are considering this for our living room but we have a wood stove insert. Any issues with the "heat" from the stove. We run a humidify in the winter to help with the dryness from the stove. Also wondering about durability. Thanks for any info.

It’s only 6mil. Go get a 20mil wear layer for .50 more per ft and save yourself problems in a few yrs.

can you install on walls?
Asked by: Robert
according to the videos the manufacturer has about the product, no. so, you probably can, but not sure you should. I think the problem would be the soft underlayment that is pre-attached to the bottom. i think if you bought one of the cheaper versions that doesn't have the squishy underlayment it would work better.

I would like to install this in my bathroom, but before I do, I want to remove the existing tile because there are a couple of broken 12" x 12" tiles and the grout is coming up in a few places. The floor molding is tile, which I intend to keep. When I remove the floor tile, I will probably need to install a subfloor on top of the existing one to raise the floor high enough to meet the tile molding. Since the vinyl planks will be installed in a bathroom, should I install backer board for this second subfloor? If so, does the backer board have to be screwed, mortored down, and the seems taped and mortared, or can I just screw the backer board down?
Asked by: dibbidydo
Thank you for your question. Yes, you can use backer board as the subfloor. Screws should be as flush with the board as possible to avoid telegraphing through the flooring.

Installed the Seasoned Wood Multi-Width in the laundry and entry area of my apartment complex. Many negative issues with the product. The locking flanges are flimsy and break off easily. The flanges seem to be made out of cardboard! Once the flange breaks the plank is useless. The wear area seems to be holding up to foot traffic but it looks terrible - stains easily, does not clean up well. Water stains are visible no matter how clean the mop water. The attached underlayment makes the surface feel spongy and cheap. I’ve used the Lumber Liquidator CoreLuxe XD waterproof plank product and will use again on newly rencheapovated units. The locking flanges are solidly built and easier to snap together than the LifeProof plank. The wear area holds up better and cleans better. I would prefer to use a Home Depot product (easier to get material is I run short) but this LifeProof product is junk. At $2.99 sq. ft., HD can do better than than this product!

In order to make sure it “locked” you had to feel the seem to make sure there was no lip/edge. The planks by no means break as easy as they show in the tutorial video. You must score them several times and pray they break on the score. We also had several planks that the groove broke (which broke by simply tapping like shown in the video) thus leaving the entire plank unusable for our application. We had 2 planks where the vinyl layer also separated and peeled back. I hope we did not have a “bad batch” as the one person had mentioned....but how would you know? We had about 9 boxes installed already. The end product seems wonderful (at this time) and the flooring personnel at the local Home Depot were excellent in helping us with anything we needed during the installation process. We hope the flooring lives up to its name and if any issues arise the company honors the warranty.

My kitchen is 480 square feet and it took me 12 hours. My kitchen has a lot of angles that I had to cut. Scored them at first but eventually got the power saw out, lol! Also had to move stove and refrigerator. Total cost about $1200! Oh, FYI, the floor is different shades of grey from Charcoal Grey to very Light Grey and also shades of Dark Cream or Weathered Cream. The floor is rustic and very real wood looking. You have to touch it to know it is vinyl! It looks great even with my kitchen being very modern. Remember to lock the sides in first and then tap the ends in with the soft hammer they sell on this site. Use a tapping block to get the seams nice and tight so they don't pop out on you. I even put small screws on the extreme ends to keep everything in place since this floor floats and does not glue down and because they will be covered by molding anyway once I put it down tomorrow. Would do another one in another room in a heartbeat!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bait We brought home several samples of Life Proof - settled on the most expensive because it was the hardest to scratch. We purchased 35 boxes, laid it all in a weekend- which was very easy. We moved our furniture back into place Sunday night. Monday morning we noticed a large scratch! By Thursday there was another scratch due to a simple move of a speaker. I had to purchase wax and rub it over the scratches then use a rubber mallet to make the scratches blend in. I feel like the display samples are not the same as what is in the boxes. The display samples seem to have a tough coating on them versus the planks dont. I dont see these floors holding up, very disappointing.

I pulled up the old linoleum because of the spacing with the heating (boiler) system covers. Instead of using an exact-o knife, I opt-ed of a table saw and miter saw. I had a lot of cuts and I liked the clean edges. I also needed the miter saw for the trim. Instead of buying a tapping block, I used the floor samples that were free from home depot. I had them around from when I was choosing the color. I chipped away at door frames with a hammer and chisel and the flooring slid right in. I did need to by a Pro Pull Bar for Laminate and Wood Floors ($10/$11) for the last row and it worked very nicely. I also used the Zamma trim and cap-a-tred for this project. I've had it in for three weeks and it's holding up well and totally transformed my kitchen.

One thing to note with this particular pattern is that there is a wide difference in shades of the planks. They range from light to very dark which will give you a very rustic appearance once it's down. I had a minimum of three to five boxes open at a time and separated between light and dark so that I could blend them together as I put them in. If you don't, you will likely end up with large areas of light planks and others of very dark planks. As far as installing, it's easy but patience is a virtue. Don't be shy with the rubber mallet and if there is a seam you're not happy with, don't hesitate to pull the plank out before continuing. It's likely that the tongue is damaged or defective preventing you from getting a tight seam. Also, the tongues and the grooves are fragile. If you accidentally drop a plank on its edge/corner, check it closely, it's probably damaged.

The installer commented on the looks several times along with stating it was superior flooring compared to the last floor he installed. I installed the flooring in my kitchen, entry, family room, 2 bathrooms and the laundry room. The floor is a gray/brown color. It goes well with my black island and the earth tones throughout the rest of my house. I cannot recommend this floor enough!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from outstanding product Couldnt be more pleased. My wife and i are both in our mid 60”s and over weight. We bought 80 boxes for our 1500 sf 80 year old farm house with uneven wavy old floors. Let me tell you this product really exceded all our expectations. It snapped together perfectly. Very well engineered. It took us an average of 8 hours per room to lay the flooring.66 hours for the whole house. Heres what you will need:compound miter saw to make your cuts(cant cut planks with a knife), chalk to mark your cuts, table saw to make your long cuts, yard stick, tape measure, rubber hammer, 1 heavy duty pull bar, 2 tapping blocks because after a while they will break. We started out with spacers and they would work great on a new contruction home but not well on a old not square home like ours. We drilled screws to hold the planks in place then we took the screws out after we finished. You wont know what im talking about untill you start doing this part. Follow my advice and your project will go easier. We have been finished now about two weeks now and we couldnt be happier. I forgot one thing you will need a bottle of ibuprophen.
