Does the product scratch easily. What is likely to cause scratches and what isn't? What can be used to conceal scratch

We have had this flooring down for 15 months now and love it. Just like any floor other than carpet or tile, it can scratch. However we have very few noticeable scratches and we have done zero protective measures. We installed in entire home except for kitchen. Bathrooms included. I am back on this website getting ready to do another home. Very pleased.

Can this product be installed in kitchen around and under a gas range? Currently have one piece vinyl flooring under the range without any problem.

We have installed this laminate in kitchens and under most appliances. We would probably not install this under any range if at all possible. The heat from the oven may not be good for the laminate surface. What we would do is extend the laminate a few inches under the edge of the range for appearances only. While vinyl flooring is typically thin and one piece, the laminate is a floating floor that is interconnected. We would expect that heat from the range may cause the laminate to expand/buckle and it may separate from the heat.

how do you cut this type of flooring?

I did entire house by my self and found the easiest way to cut was by using a table saw. They will tell you that you can use a razor knife but they clearly never installed this product. I installed over 1500 sq ft of this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from love the look but scratches easily we were approached by a home depot employee who told my husband and I that this is a super easy product to install. once we hot the hang of it, we realized they were correct that someone without experience can indeed install this flooring.the floor looks beautiful and looks like wood... however we are building a new construction home and minimal amounts of things have been placed on this flooring and there ate scratches EVERYWHERE. since it has a 5 year warranty we have contacted home depot who can not make a claim for us since they did not install it.... so we are making a claim through the company itself. I thought maybe we were sold a bad batch... now I am seeing others are having the same issues as well. this is extremely disappointing for us since we spent weeks installing it in the evenings and weekends and have spent thousands of dollars. we have two dogs that have not set foot on this product yet and are supposed to be moving in this weekend. can not imagine what the floor may look like if it's already this scratched. highly disappointed. hopefully the manufacturer will make it right.

I have installed several laminate and luxury vinyl plank floors and this product stands out as the best that I have encountered so far. For this kitchen job I purchased another product that looked very nice but it was not nearly as well constructed and the material used for the joints came broken in many places and easily cracked and jammed when installing . . . especially if you have to remove and reinstall such as when water gets under it . . . which indeed happened. I ended up returning that product to a different supplier and purchased LifeProof planks at my local Home Depot. The difference was like night and day. It went together easily, had a good video with instructions and none of the joints were damaged before and during the install process. I installed using a saw but they say a knife can be used as well . . . that would take more elbow grease but it would make less of a mess with vinyl shavings. I would highly recommend this new product for DIYers . . . it will save a bunch of money and looks great.

We laid the Shadow Hickory LifeProof vinyl flooring throughout our living room and kitchen and thoroughly regret it. :( It was easy enough to install, but did not cut exclusively with a blade as the Home Depot representative told us it would. You will need a miter saw to install. It looks cheesy installed as there aren't really any defined planks. "LifeProof" is kind of a deceiving name because though it may be waterproof, it is very prone to scratches. We have a small family - take our shoes off at the door, put felt pads on all of the chairs and furniture, use large area rugs, etc. but small things like a cardboard box on the floor or my son's plastic truck will scratch the floor almost instantly. It is very frustrating as we expected a "luxury vinyl" to hold up a little better compared to cheaper laminate. We had planned on installing this flooring in the bedrooms as well, but now do not want to continue.

HOWEVER, this stuff scratches so easily that I can’t recommend it to anyone with kids or who moves furniture now and then. We had a new dishwasher installed and the floor was scratched even though the installer took great care during the installation. Movers moving our furniture into condo after or renovation were warned about the new flooring and still couldn’t avoid a few deep scratches. I love how the flooring works with our small dogs who have their occasional “accidents” but overall, I wish we never bought this type of flooring. I wish we had spent more money on wood look porcelain tile. Very bad decision. We will have to live with it for another few years but I really see us ripping this stuff up and replacing it with something much more durable. So very sorry we ever bought it.

Don't be fooled - you CANNOT cut this with a utility knife the way it shows in the video. It's much too thick and rigid to easily 'score and snap.' Upon discovering this, an employee in the flooring department at HD told me a Dremel would "cut it like butter" which was a complete lie. I had to purchase a $17 carbide cutting blade for my Dremel after the regular cutting tool barely scratched it, and yet another HD employee assured me the carbide blade was what I needed. That did cut it, but it was difficult and not a clean cut - certainly nothing like cutting through butter! If you don't have a power saw, you may as well just pay to have it installed. The product looks great, but I'm very disappointed that it now looks (after two wasted weekeneds) that I can't get this job done myself like I'd hoped.

My wife and I decided to finish our basement and went with this color with darker walls. I am a "weekend warrior" in terms of DIY skill level, so I am FAR from a pro. I have never done wood/laminate/vinyl flooring before this project. I laid down 60 cases of this and it went down extremely easy with minimum issues. Finding the right starting point was the most difficult part for me. We had very little waste and the look and quality exceeded our expectations. We have had at least 4 people ask "who laid your floor down?" This is not bragging on my skills. It was just THAT easy to put down. I would ABSOLUTELY buy this again.

It saddens me to write this review because I wanted to love this flooring so much. It looks beautiful and it installs easily; however, if you have children or pets or live as a normal person, this flooring is not for you. I am finding scratches almost on a weekly basis and we are not aggressive with our flooring. Before the installers were even done, I found a few scratches from their soft plastic knee pads. At that moment I knew we were in trouble. If you want to be extra cautious with your flooring, then get it. If not, this isn't the flooring for you. To make matters even worse, the scratch layer is white. So all scratches show up white on a dark floor so its not like you can't notice them. Save yourself a lot of money and go with something more durable like laminate. We had laminate prior to our LVP and it was extremely difficult to scratch compared to this vinyl. Unfortunately, I regret this purchase.

I did a lot of research to find a vinyl plank flooring product that was formaldehyde and phthalate free. Was mislead by one large company saying that their products were low voc but still had both of those chemicals and recycled vinyl in the mix. I stumbled over this brand and was surprised to see that Home Depot was labeled as a leader in changing to non toxic flooring options. We installed lifeproof over concrete and it was easy, (no underlayment or acclimation time) looks beautiful, stays room temperature and feels "soft" underfoot. It does not sound hollow or like walking on plastic. So happy with the look and feel and grateful for the commitment to healthier flooring. I had a question regarding the types of mats that were okay to use and was greeted right away by a knowledgeable, friendly woman at the provided 800 phone number. Very happy with the product and price!
