Questions & Answers

What would be the best tool to cut these?

Asked by: Hairwiz14
Several cuts with a utility knife work great for end cuts. I used a jig saw for long side cuts. There are lots of YouTube videos on these. I think I must have watched a dozen before starting the job. The video on HDs product page was as good as any.

Can this flooring be glued down if desired? Looking for something to put in a laundry room with 3 washers and dryers and more traffic than a normal laundry room. Would like to glue down to provide more protection in case a washer leaked water. Does manufacturer allow this to be glued? Also concerned about how easy it is to scratch. Would this product scratch less that solid piece linoleum?
Asked by: Stan
Use Vinyl Cove base to help contain any leaks instead of wood or MDF Base Moulding. I recommend this to all my clients.

I took home a sample and was impressed with how thick and rigid it was. When I went back to the store, fortunately there was a piece laying out. I could not believe how flimsy the panel was and thought there had to be more made of thicker material. I found a person who worked there and showed him the difference between the sample and actual piece and he agreed it was not the same thickness, that the sample was just to show the color ( although the sample and actual piece stated the same thickness). Really, the sample is just to show the color? Why not just put out color samples instead of pieces with the same labeling as the actual pieces which are much thinner? A scam as far as I am concerned and very happy I did not buy the 500 sq.ft. I needed and got it home before I noticed the difference. I can buy peel and stick for half the price if I want flimsy. Kind of shows what Home Depot thinks of its customers.

While it took a couple of tries to get the second row started smoothly and tightly, after that, installation was fairly easy and the floor looks great. The interlocking vinyl pieces locked into place with moderate tapping, using a rubber mallet (rather than the nylon-coated hammer described in the instructions). It took about four hours total time to complete a 10' X 12' space; including time to cut pieces to fit. I finished the floor on Aug. 14, 2018. Cutting the pieces only takes a straight edge (I used an aluminum T-square) and a sharp blade (box knife) to score along the cut line and then snap the tile apart. It does require two tools specifically made for installing these tiles - a 3" X 9" X 1/2" tapping block and a pull bar (for wood or laminate flooring). In addition, there is an edge moulding of matching color to finish off the the seam where the vinyl tile meets other flooring or at a doorway.

My husband and I just installed over 600 square feet of this flooring in the kitchen/dinning and formal living room of our home. This product was very easy to work with. It does score and snap like advertised for cutting pieces, but you will got through a lot of blades. We also found using an oscillating tool for difficult cuts was very beneficial with this flooring. As far as durability it seems to be holding up well - slight scuffing from moving the fridge back into place, but nothing deep and really only visible when looking at it in reflected sunlight - just looks like dull smudges so nothing earth shattering. We have a small dog, she doesn't like the flooring at all, but only because she has trouble getting traction. The key is in the prep work - make sure you are preparing your subfloor for before putting this in. check for high and low spots and take care of those a head of installment. I am very happy with our finished product

This is my 4th time purchasing and installing LifeProof vinyl plank flooring. This is an excellent product and easy to install. I highly recommend purchasing a few items before installing: 1. the tapping block made for this floor is essential, 2. a rubber mallet (white rubber is best the black ones leave marks), 3. plenty of new blades for your utility knife, and 4. the wall spacers. Make sure your first row is straight. Make sure each long seam is tapped in tight with the tapping block and rubber mallet and then tap in the end seam before laying the next plank. Straight end cuts can be scored with the utility knife - score several times, then break by placing the end over the edge of the counter and press down until it breaks at the score line. Long cuts and intricate detail cuts require a jig saw with a sharp blade. Follow these rules and your floor will install easily and look beautiful! I am a 56 year old woman and I have laid about 700 square feet of the Sterling Oak 18 months ago, 600 sq ft of the Normandy Oak Natural 1 year ago, and a few weeks ago 300 sq ft of Choice Oak. They all came out beautifully. The Choice Oak only took about 12 hours to lay in my kitchen (it gets easier every time I lay it). The Choice Oak looked a little dark to me at first but once you lay it all the gray takes over the browns and it is beautiful. I would recommend it with dark wood cabinets or with gray cabinets! The only downside is that some dogs, for some reason, slip on these floors. It does not feel slippery at all for humans, even with socks on, but some dogs have issues with it. The Normandy Oak and Lighthouse Oak have a bit more texture if you think your dog may have an issue. I have included several photos of the last install which is the Choice Oak.

I purchased the "Sterling Oak" and it's a beautiful gray color. It's waterproof, very durable, easy to clean and gives any space an instant luxury feel. It totally transformed my apartment and looks amazing with gray paint and white trim. I bought enough to cover about 700 sq ft of space in my apartment. I had it installed everywhere expect the bathrooms, pantry and steps (this doesn't go on steps). I didn't have Home Depot do the installation but I did hire a contractor to do it and it took about a full days work for two people and they said it was pretty easy to install. I have no complaints over 10 months in. I get tons of compliments on this floor and it feels nice on bare feet. Gorgeous!

We are in our mid 30's with a very active 3 year old. It took all 3 days. We had several difficult cuts to make. A utility knife is only good for cutting the ends (snap in piece) other than that we used a Dremel and chop saw. I absolutely love the look of this floor. We were concerned it would be too dark, but I really like the look. Only one complaint, it does scratch easily BUT you can't see them. My son dropped a glass that broke and etched the flooring. The good thing is you can't see it, the bad thing is you can feel it. I still need to contact life proof to see what or how to fix it.

These planks are beautiful and nice to walk on, but beware-- put on your Patience Cap! You'll need to be patient with yourself and patient with the process. The fit is VERY exact, so make sure you do the long end first, leaving a TINY maybe 1mm line at the short end, and only bang the short end into place when the long seam is perfect! If you do that and follow all the other directions, you might end up with a beautiful floor. (I did, but with one bad seam at the beginning and a couple of non-perfect seams later. You can't change them once the short end is banged in.) Overall, I'm satisfied, and I will continue with the rest of my project (one more room and the hall in between.) However, if you want absolute perfection, consider paying for installation. Corners, closets, doorways, imperfectly straight walls, imperfections in the floor, measuring and cutting the planks to fit exactly....all of these are details you'll otherwise have to deal with.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Such a dissapointment Lifeproof is a joke of a name. Waterproof does NOT mean lifeproof. The day after installing these they were scratched deeply by a recliner during normal operation. These floors are very vulnerable. I bought them so I wouldn’t have to worry, now I’m scared to even sit in my furniture. I would never recommend these floors. I came in looking for porcelain tile for one room and was guided by salespeople to this product as a cheaper alternative to do multiple rooms. I feel mislead. The kicker is that my project still isn’t complete. The Home Depot staff wasn’t competent enough to provide all of the transition pieces needed, despite coming out in person to measure and take pictures. Amateur hour!!! I’ve had a partially finished floor for several weeks now. So full of regret!!
