Can anyone comment on the durability of this floor? Most reviews are done shortly after installation so we are wondering how it lasts? We have a busy household of 3 children and 4 dogs. Is scratching a major issue? Thank you!

LifeProof gets poor ratings from a consumer magazine that I subscribe to. It has a good overall thickness, but only has a 6mil thick "wear layer." Ideally, that number should be at least double that to provide you with peace of mind as far as durability goes.

For those who have this flooring: how well does it hide dirt and dust? I don't want to clean every day to keep it looking good.

We have had this flooring in our home for a few months now and we clean the floor once a week although, if we didn't clean that often it would still look clean. Looks great and easy to clean, we love this flooring.

How level does the sub floor need to be.

Asked by: LMA
I did some "patchy" floor leveling in my basement, but regret not leveling the entire floor (trying to save $$). It does not take much of a gap between the flooring and concrete to get a secondary little "clunk" sound as you step. i was advised that an underlayment was not necessary (it does come with a thin rubbery bottom). But in hindsight, i wish i had. Or perhaps a better job of leveling is all that is necessary.

It appears to be very durable and easy to maintain. I put this flooring down in a very high traffic area, after working with it I am confident in its durability. The flooring is relatively easy to put down and once you get your first couple of rows down it really starts to flow. My only complaints are: I found them difficult to cut, they say you only need to score them once with a razor and then they just snap in half. This was not the case for me, I used a good razor knife (changing the blades often) and I had to score it numerous times in order to be able to snap it. I finally got a floor cutter ($100.00) which was a huge benefit! If you have to take some of the flooring apart ( to change planks, re arrange or what ever) you have to be extremely careful as the tracks crack/break very easy and once this happens that piece in now un useable. These are the only negatives I found and as noted above in all this is a great product and I would definitely recommend.

The only thing I did not like is that if you need to remove a piece to reset them or anything, the connectors have a tendency to break very easy. I have also chipped connectors just by hitting the board on the floor.Be sure that you have your plan laid out beforehand. I have gotten plenty of compliments on the look and the uniqueness of on the look and uniqueness of the pattern. I did end up with quite a bit of scrap because of the way the planks connect to one another. I was able to use a lot of it in the runs on the very end to start a new row. make sure when you're purchasing that you definitely buy 10 to 15% more product as you will likely use all of it.

The hardest part was trying to rip the boards if you cannot fit the span of your room perfectly. The flooring person at my store recommended using a circular saw with a vinyl blade, which I tried, and it made a mess. Stick with scoring and snapping as the instructions state. I had better luck scoring and snapping the length of the board by snapping it over the ledge of my concrete porch for leverage. I laid my planks in pattern one from the instructions. I wound up needing one extra box more than my square footage due to the amount of waste. That was the only con. Due to the design of how the boards go together, some boards are rendered useless once you cut them. Overall the floor looks great, even adjacent to my existing hardwood floors (I ran these perpendicular to the hardwood). I laid approximately 800 sq. ft., and it took me about 16 hours, mostly alone. If you have two people, it moves a lot faster because one person can cut some planks while the other person installs the full-length boards.

That’s yet to be tested in our home since it was just installed. However, I can tell you that the product is beautiful and installation was easy. Follow the instructions and watch some YouTube videos. It’s simple and I even had my 7&9 year olds helping me. I have medium level skills shop skills and my husband a touch more than I. We used a jigsaw for special cuts, like under door jams (after door jam cut with oscillating saw). The door jams were the most complicated part. Other than that, it’s fit and slide into place, tap together and tap seam. I love it and we are working room by room for the entire house. One thing. There seems to be about 2 to 3 seams per room that have the tiniest gap on the vertical end seam. No matter the trouble shooting, they occur. Other than that, the rest of the floor is seamless and I’m probably the only one who notices them. I love the floor and it is easy to install.

Normally I buy all my flooring from one source, but my client found this at HD. Does LOOK nice, but the click design (the way the planks interlock) on this product is of poor design, making assembly tedious -- actually, darn near impossible -- to the point we soon gave up and returned the flooring. Went back to our usual supplier, got the usual product, and finished the job quickly. Manager there told me HD's price was low because the better quality click system is patented, and that adds 30-40 cents per square foot. Also don't like the extra wide pieces, which are visually unattractive, and makes for lots of drop (poor yield). If we had a hard time with this, can't imagine a weekend-warrior homeowner being anything but frustrated. I expect better of HD.

Since our local store didn't have the product we had to place an order which was shipped to our home. We ordered nine packages. Seven arrived the last scheduled delivery date ant the two remaining packages the following day. (Note the Home Depot site indicated all nine packaged arrived the first shipment but the UPS site showed the remaining two packages were still out for delivery). One of the two boxes shipped the last day was empty. Obviously, this put us in a bind since we had installation scheduled the next day. I called Home Depot for a resolution and was told it would take 10 days to resolve the problem. I ask them to see if there was any store in our vicinity that might have stock. Luckily there was a store that had 27 boxes in inventory. It would have been much easier if when ordering at the store the order desk could easily check other local store inventory. This would have avoided delay, shipment issues an much frustration.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Lifeproof Love the way it looks. Really ties the house together. Installation wasn't hard, but have to be very careful with the planks. They had a tendency to break easily. Disappointed with the durability. The material scratches very easily, we were surprised to see so many scratches appear within the first 3 months, even with trying to be as careful as possible. Looks great, doesn't seem to hold up to life's daily happenings nearly as well as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Installed in an apartment, small hallway and kitchen area. Went down easy. One of the keys is to establish a true square to the area, so that it goes down straight and looks so. I used an existing hardwood floor in an adjacent room. Then it's a matter of deciding on a staggering and plank width sequence - and sticking with it throughout. The snap-in tracks are not super durable, so when tapping from the side, do so GENTLY as instructed. Easy to cut straight with a razor cutter, but a jigsaw is a must for any box cuts. The joiner strips - used to connect floor segments is ok quality (plastic), but can be tricky to snap in. I might change them to hardwood. For me - a DIYer - it took about 8 hours to put down a 90 sqft space, with tricky cuts. Looking forward to this lasting a long time.
