Q:Is this product non-porous? Can this be used to float linoleum tiles over a chipped and peeling linoleum floor prior to using a floor leveller?

Answer This Question

A:  Our primer is designed as a bonding agent. You will need an embosser or a self-leveling compound to address the issues you are referencing.

A:  In truth, after proper preparation of the "pealing" concrete by taking it down to solid, a primer should not be needed. Thinset adheres nicely to cement and you would need to address the concrete issue before priming anyway. If the imperfections are too deep to cover with Thinset, they can always be rough-patched before tiling.

This product is very easy to use. Make sure you read the instructions and get your tools together before you begin. Cleaning your floor's surface is extremely important because this stuff is very tacky and every speck of dirt and dust withing several feet will float it's way onto your wet primer. It rolls on very easily and appears white like glue. But then it dries clear and smooth. I applied this directly to plywood sub flooring in a manufactured home.

This is a very eco-friendly water-based acrylic latex primer with low VOC’s that provides excellent coverage, is formulated to provide superior adhesion for paints. I have used other primers that claimed to be low or no-VOC, but they emitted a lingering odor that lasted for weeks. LifeTiles primer has virtually no odor. The primer is very thin, almost the same consistency as milk, and comes in an easy to carry and pour plastic jug with a screw-on cap. The milky white primer is tacky to the touch and can be applied with a brush or low pile roller. The application instructions don’t address whether this product can be applied with a sprayer, so I assume it cannot because its tacky consistency would likely clog a sprayer tip and internals. The primer applied easily on a piece of test wood and dried to the touch within an hour of application. The product dries clear, but has a sheen to it so you can see where it was applied. This is a very impressive acrylic primer that can be applied to any substrate to increase the bond with paints. No odor and a higher-quality primer than anything I have used previously. I especially like the jug it comes in versus the metal paint can that the majority of other primers come in. Great product and I highly recommend it,

The Life Tiles all purpose premium acrylic primer is a really good primer to promote adhesion and acts as a sealer. It cleans up really well with water when wet and with mineral spirits when dry. One gallon will cover between 200-400sf depending on how porous the floor is and also the thickness of the application. It will work on porous or non porous concrete-above or below grade. The key is to make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of any foreign material. Application must be above 55 degrees and the relative humidity below 65% for 48 hours before application. I definitely recommend for improving the installation of engineered floors.

Life Tiles 1 Gal. All-Purpose Acrylic Primer. This product was so easy to use, No mixing and worrying if I mixed it right. Smell wasn't bad at all, 1 gallon covered my 12 x 15 foot sunroom. I am a beginner DIY"er. with very little experience. I wanted to turn my sun room into a playroom for the grand kids. The floor is wood and was covered with that astro turf type carpet. We wanted to make it a softer feel for crawling babies. We put down the concrete underlayment so in the future we could do ceramic tile but for now decided to put the foam interlocking tiles. This primer made the tile glue strips adhere better. It took about 2 1/2 hours to dry but I blame that on the rain that day.

Secure the future of your ceramic tile. While I generally use cement board substrate, in this case, I am tiling over Luann. (Though this primer will work with either.) As I would for any tile job, I vacuumed and cleaned the substrate well, before priming. As a water base primer, cleanup is a snap and there is virtually no odor. Life Tiles Primer is easily applied with a 3/8” roller and a disposable chip brush for corners. The product is milky in nature and dries quite quickly. Once cured, it ensures that any slight bit of dust remaining on the the surface is securely bonded to the substrate, doing away with any concerns about poor tile adhesion. Tile can be an expensive project. Repairs are inconvenient and can be expensive as well. To my mind, spending a few dollars and a few minutes up front, to better ensure a superior installation, is well worth it. In short; a quality product at a reasonable price.

Life Tiles all purpose acrylic primer is a great primer to use if you are installing any kind of self-leveling underlayment. The first thing you will notice after you open the container is the soft odor. The smell is not strong at all. I put this down primarily with a paint roller then used a paint brush to cover corners. No mixing was involved. It is ready to use straight from the container. It did the job exactly like I was hoping for. I definitely recommend this stuff.

The Life Tiles 1-gal. all-purpose acrylic primer works very well for many installations. I have used it on my cement basement floor where I built a small work shop. It was simple to apply with a short nap roller and brush. The primer dries to a clear finish in about 2hrs. I then applied my self-stick tiles and they stuck very well. It has a low odor and a gallon covers up to 400sq.ft.. Very good product.
