If yur concrete basement is ALWAYS dry & the concrete NEVER even gets just slightly damp, you can put it directly over the concrete. If there is even the slightest chance of dampness coming up through the concrete, then put a vapor barrier product down first.

What do you use for a pad under the vinyl flooring?

Thanks for your question. We do not recommend gluing this product down. The planks need to be able to expand and contract and if they're glued down, they can't. It will also void your warranty.

Does the shadow hickory/ easton hickory cap a tread match the shadow hickory plank ?

Asked by Mike April 1, 2019

Answer

Thanks for your question. Yes, any piece marked "Shadow Hickory/Easton Hickory" will match your Shadow Hickory. Home Depot rebranded our Isocore products (including Easton Hickory) as Lifeproof and their color names also changed but they are the same color.

I was a bit spectacle ordering this floor as HD did not have any samples. I am so happy with my decision as my floors are absolutely beautiful. I used my own installers as the contracted installers through HD has horrible reviews. The planks were delivered sooner than expected.

I HATE MY FLOOR. We spent several months researching flooring. We finally settled on the Lifeproof vinyl plank because it was free of some of the chemicals I react negatively to (formaldehyde) and because of the advertised durability. I read that you cannot steam this flooring. I only clean with a professional steamer. I decided that it was better to clean without steaming to get the advertised durability without the harsh off-gassing chemicals. My husband installed it in most of our main level. While it was tedious and time consuming, it was neither difficult not super easy, similar to laminate. I liked how the floor looked for about 10 minutes. Then SCRATCHES began to appear EVERYWHERE. We chose the Seaside Oak, a dark color. The core is light gray. Every scratch showed/s up white amidst the dark floor. It was extremely disconcerting. Daily living with my children (9 - 17) has become a nightmare where the flooring is concerned. I called Home Depot. I explained that the sales person told me that this flooring was the very best. That it didn't scratch, that it would hold up to kids and dogs with no problems, that if installed over a concrete slab, there would be noticeable cushion/ shock absorbency, that it would perform much better than laminate. The box says. 100% Lifeproof 0% worries. Um, not my experience. I sent in various pictures. They called the vendor. Since we had a little over 1/4 of our boxes, they asked for 2 boxes. They tested them and denied warranty coverage. The warranty does NOT cover extensive scratching despite scratch resistance being one of their biggest advertising points. I went in to Home Depot seeking any recourse. This was not a $10 mistake that I could just write off.. They urged the vendor to reconsider. An inspector came out. He informed me that he would write his report, but that it would still be the vendor's decision. He said maybe a more varied color would hide the scratches. What? I don't want them to blend better. I want the floor to live up to what it is advertised to be. He also said there was a film in my floor due to hard water and that I would need to use a chemical cleaner on it to keep it clean. Ultimately my appeal was denied. I HATE MY FLOOR. The cost was significant to us and a few thousand dollars is not a mistake I am willing to throw away. I wish I never bought this floor. Even if we got a lighter color or a more varied color to minimize the appearance of the scratches, it would still be tore up. What is this going to look like in 5 years? Now we sit with the rest of the floor uninstalled because we cannot bring ourselves to install a shotty floor. And yet we do not have the budget to purchase new flooring at this time. I was told to use putty, markers, and other extreme measures to hide scratches on a floor that was installed less than 3 months ago. Seriously? The fine print says not to slide or put anything heavier than the plank itself on the floor. Um people, PEOPLE are heavier then the planks. I am baffled. Ask for the fine print and make sure you can live with all the stipulations. I took the sales guy's word for it and got duped.

Looks great and is wonderful for a condo where noise is a problem. HOWEVER, this stuff scratches so easily that I can’t recommend it to anyone with kids or who moves furniture now and then. We had a new dishwasher installed and the floor was scratched even though the installer took great care during the installation. Movers moving our furniture into condo after or renovation were warned about the new flooring and still couldn’t avoid a few deep scratches. I love how the flooring works with our small dogs who have their occasional “accidents” but overall, I wish we never bought this type of flooring. I wish we had spent more money on wood look porcelain tile. Very bad decision. We will have to live with it for another few years but I really see us ripping this stuff up and replacing it with something much more durable. So very sorry we ever bought it.

I’ve installed many floors over the years in my home and in family and friends, this by far was the easiest to install. Cuts with the scoring of a carpet knife, easily clicks together, no issues at all, went together seamlessly. (No pun intended). This is very durable, large yellow lab nails doesn’t scratch it, looks lovely.

This is the most Beautiful Wood look floor I have ever encountered. My installer said it was an amazing product and would recommend it to anyone. It was easy to install, beautiful to look at, easy to take care of and there is no problem cleaning or vacuuming this product. Moving the furniture out of the way and then back onto the new floor was no problem. No scratching at all! The color and pattern is exactly what I wanted and matched my color scheme perfectly. Definitely worth the price!!! I am looking forward to many, many years of this beautiful flooring.

Samples could have been a little bit larger but served their purpose for matching to paint colors. Did not know that the samples are FREE in the store but I paid for them to ship.
