Questions & Answers

How is the bench mounted to the wall?

How is the bench mounted to the wall?
Asked by: Mike
You install a horizontal bracket (it's about 2.5 ft long) directly onto the wall. The bench (which you will put together first) is then lifted onto the bracket. So, the bench winds up hanging on the wall, with the front two feet there to hold the front edge of the table top level. Instructions are excellent. There are many nuts and bolts which you will be assembling, but I had no difficulty following the instructions and illustrations. Really, the only 'hard' part is that the finished assembled bench is heavy. With two people, it was a cinch to hang -- but one person would likely find it tough. It's worth it! I love this bench -- bought two of them. I'm a female, did the whole thing (except the final lifting onto the wall bracket) by myself, and appreciate the very sturdy construction, convenience of folding the table up easily when not in use, and the tool storage it has. This is the best storage / tool item I've ever purchased from Home Depot. I am an artist / metalsmith, and so appreciate good tools and storage.

The pegboard is metal. Everything except for the surface of the worktable which is wood is metal.

47 in. L x 31 in. D x 60.5 - 71.5 in. H Wall-Mounted Folding Work Table is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 70.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very neat idea for a workbench! We have some other workbenches, but needed something that would not take up much room when not being used, and this workbench was the perfect solution! I don't impress easily, but this 59 in. L x 27 in. W x 38 in. H Wall-Mounted Work Table by Lifetime is a very cool product! When not needed, it folds up against the wall like a Murphy bed, and the tools I have hanging on the peg board inside stay nicely stored. When needed, it folds down and is quick and easy to work from. It is probably not ideal for very heavy work, like car engines, but for most things that most people would ever do, it is perfect. I can see hobbyists or crafters really loving this bench. It is very heavy, at 112 pounds shipping weight, so be sure to have someone help you in setting up and installing. I would also strongly suggest that you anchor it to wall studs, since so much weight will need to be supported. Assembly and installation is easy, except as I said, it is heavy. I really love this bench! Thanks Lifetime, and Home Depot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Work Table! If you're like me and space is at a premium, this is a great product. I needed a work bench in my garage where I could work on projects and store some of my tools, however, I didn't want something that took up a lot of space, this table works out perfectly for me. The best part about it is the fact that the table folds up and out of the way when you're not using it, I don't really put my car in my garage, but if I did, a permanent work bench would make it extremely tight, with it folded up, I can still fit a full size car in there if I ever wanted to. I love the peg board where I can keep most of my hand tools within reach, and the best part is that when the table is folded up, they are hidden away out of sight. Assembly was pretty straightforward, however, time consuming. I most of the assembly by myself so it took me about 3 hours or so, my wife gave me a hand in a few spots when I needed the additional help, but all in all it was pretty simple and pain free. Very happy about this product, 5 stars are well earned!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed! This is a very solid and well built folding work table. It feels really heavy duty and made of quality materials and should last a lifetime in the DIYer's garage or workshop. To be honest it may also be suitable for a Pro. The instructions and youtube videos recommend installation by two adults and suggest an assembly time of 2 hours, but I was able to put it all together by myself and it took about 4 hours (across 2 days). During assembly there were a couple of frustrating moments where I couldn't exactly get the frame to fit perfectly such as lining up holes etc, but after taking a deep breath and concentrating on the task at hand things went just fine. The instructions are okay but I thought they should've included larger diagrams. The provided hardware is excellent and well labeled. Main assembly steps: - First you assemble the frame on the floor (see pic #3) using bolts and nuts. During all steps you should only hand tighten so that you continue to have flexibility to complete the installation. After completely assembling the frame you need to go over all the bolts and nuts to tighten them. - Then you mount the bracket on the wall (need two or three studs) just like you would mount a flat TV bracket. The provided lag screws are great and will hold this table up with no issue. You need to make sure the bracket is level. - Then you lift the assembled frame and hang it from the bracket just like you would hang a flat TV. - Then finish off by installing the table top, springs, leg extensions, etc. You can choose the table height you need from approx 35 inches to 42 inches, and I went with 37 inches. The adjustable legs also allow you to compensate for uneven floors and still get the table level. When closed, this table projects approx 10.5 inches from the wall so it's not exactly slim profile. A heavy duty latch keeps the table in the closed position. I found that engaging the latch to lock the table in the closed position requires a little more effort than I thought it would. Also when closed, the tools in the peg board are nicely covered/hidden, so I'm planning on removing some tools from my other wall panels to store them in this table. A good number of hooks were included. It takes 5 seconds to open this table and enjoy a surprisingly solid and sturdy work bench. You can easily access the tools from the included peg board. I was able to get it nice & level. It looks very neat in my garage. I don't give 5 stars unless a product exceeds my expectations, and this work table does!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great present, great additon for the garage! I originally decided to get this table as a present for Christmas for my husband, but now I think this was probably the best gift I could give myself instead. It is amazing how much this table has added to the organization in our garage and also aided in helping to keep things in place and easy to find. The table is very solid and heavy, yet still easily maneuverable from the closed to the open position. Now there is a space and place where in a 48 inch space I can keep all the tools I need around the house and yet still have a functioning garage for parking cars and motorcycles. The installation was quite simple also, definitely not a problem for any do it yourselfer. I am so glad I got this table!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High-quality, space saver for garage or shop It looked good in the photo, but is even better when you see and feel this thing in person. It arrives well packaged, which is good because it is heavy. That's because it's made of thick steel. Each part is accurately formed, with neat bends and perfectly aligned holes. The edges are all nicely de-burred so you can handle this with bare hands. All parts are consistently powder coated with a smooth black finish. Every part speaks of consistent quality control. Assembly is straightforward and easy, thanks to the LARGE print instructions on full sized 8.5" x 11" paper written in comprehensible English. All sections of the instructions are clearly labeled. All the small parts are collated on cards with LARGE labels so they are easy to count and use. They even have videos to show you how to assemble this which you can find at go.lifetime.com/worktable1. The instructions recommend having a helper to assemble this and I agree. It's much easier to lift this into position on the wall. I managed it myself using two 2x4 studs to help hold it in place as I attached the main unit. If you intend to move it up or down stairs, it is better to remove individual parts from the box and move them one or two at a time since the individual components are easily manageable. The top is made from solid wood about 3/4 inch thick and is VERY sturdy. I don't know what type of wood it is but it is very hard, stiff and stable due to its laminated construction. It is similar to the sturdy wood worktops we see on Husky tool cabinets, which are all very good. Once assembled with finger-tightened bolts and screws, you get it into position, then tighten everything up. You can do that with a hand driver, but I chose to use a small cordless driver for speed and comfort since there are many screws to tighten. Once assembled in position you can adjust the legs to a wide range of heights to suit your best working height. I did not know it when I ordered it, but there are many tool holders already built into the design, PLUS the "peg-board" style holes of the metal back-board. There is a space for attaching a light, which is a welcome accessory in a dark basement shop! They even thought to include a "wiring chase" so you can neatly pull wires for your lights through that and they don't get in the way. The springs are a bit noisy when you open or close it the first few times, which is true of all spring mechanisms like this. I applied a little wax to the bearing points and moved the table up and down to spread it around. Now it operates smoothly and quietly with very little effort. The spring assisted motion is necessary both for comfort and safety with such a heavy solid top. That's a welcome feature I did not know it had when I order it. Overall, this is VERY sturdy and well made. I love the size and neat appearance when folded up, and I love the large work surface when it is down. It's great having my most often-used tools all within easy reach. That's MUCH MUCH better than searching through several tool bags. Although it is never mentioned or shown in any photo or video, this has plenty of room for a trash can beneath it. I find having a trash can nearby is one of the most useful things ever in any shop near any workbench. I use this for opening boxes, assembling stuff, fixing stuff, doing light "honey-do list" items. In every case, there is always some trash generated by those operations, so because this large open area under this design accommodates a trash can, that mean much less work for me! I am VERY happy with the quality and appearance and functionality. This is a bargain for such a well made and thoughtfully designed bench. Plus it folds away neatly and hides my "works in progress" when I can't finish a job before guests come over! ;-) If you work in a small area as I do, or just want to make your garage look neater, this is a great choice. I might get another one for the garage, that’s how much I like it!
