Questions & Answers

What kind of propane tank is needed for this unit? How long will it run on a tank?

Asked by: Porter
I used one twenty pound tank a month. I light the Weber charcoal grill on average 3 nights a week and lite the wood in the fire pit 4 nights a week. The grill is less than 5 minutes a time the would pit 20 mins a time average unless the wood was really wet.

Is there an adjustable pilot light or do you have to keep lighting it each time you move to another area?

Asked by: jay1
There is no pilot light. You have to keep relighting it.

what type of regulator is needed to hook this to the propane tank.

Having trouble finding compatible connectors.
Asked by: sedmo
No regulator is required, and I'm quite sure you're not supposed to use one as full pressure from the propane tank is required for it work properly.

I walked over to Lawn and Garden and looked at the tanks and lo and behold, there are two sets of threads! Big ones on the outside and fine ones on the inside of the neck. I would have felt pretty dense except none of the sales people (at HD or that other big box store) knew it either. Must say though, everyone was unbelievably helpful as always. The flame makes the most satisfying roaring sound. The wand is light enough for one handed use. It is a little difficult to see the flame, but just point it at anything flammable and the instant conflagration is demonstrative. Great way to use the dregs of the propane tank.

Used this to clear out my driveway after several different weed killers failed to keep them dead. Easy hook up to my 5 gallon tank, the hose is really long which makes it really convenient. Takes a little getting used to not having a pilot but not a big issue. I found out that on top of clearing weeds and brush, this makes a great rat nest extermination tool. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone, best weed torch for the money hands down! Like: Long hose gives it range from your tank. Easy to light. Easy hook up. Fuel control near the trigger for flame control. Dislike: No pilot, have to keep the igniter handy.

Upon initial attempt to use this torch, I was very disappointed that I could only get an occasional burst of fuel, was unable to get it to light. I went back to my local Home Depot store to ask the folks there if they had similar issues. A very helpful associate explained that the newer propane cylinders have a safety valve on them, and I should only open the cylinder valve 1/4 turn. I went back home, tried this, and VIOLA! Works fantastic! Amazingly, I also took another look at the operating instructions, and SURE ENOUGH, the instructions also mention only opening the cylinder valve 1/4 turn! Lesson to all users..... ONLY OPEN THE CYLINDER VALVE 1/4 TURN! This will save a LOT of frustration, and will give you an awesome torch!

Does not have as big of flame as you would except from the large tip. Have to remove the hose from bottle every time to purge it or flame will be really small. Overall...it does an ok job

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Torch If you are not hearing a sound like a jet fighter engine ... you opened the propane tank too much Crack the tank just a little and then open the valve on the torch a little .... press the trigger and you will hear a jet noise light the flame and adjust the force of the flame I made the mistake of cracking the tank too much and the flame was like a dozen bics - this means the safety valve on the tank has kicked in If the torch is working properly the neighbors will complain about the noise and you will think you are in a Mad Max movie I cannot underestimate how important it is too crack the propane tank just a little!!!!

I bought this to torch the wood enough to bring out the grain on an 8' picnic table and two detached benches. I did the table first. The torch was brand new, and worked like a charm. The flame was easily adjustable, and could come out very hot. Torching the table only took a few minutes, and I had to be careful not to overburn. I disconnected everything for two days while I built the benches. When I reconnected, the propane came out so barely that I could only get enough flame to torch a marshmallow. I tried reconnecting, checking all fittings and adjustments, even tried a brand new full propane tank. Nothing. Barely a flame came out. Each bench took well over half an hour, and the grain is still barely visible. Needless to say, this is going back to Home Depot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Practice makes perfect The torch was a bit scary in use at first, but some practice away from flammable stuff paid off well. As the reviews stated, the trick is to keep the gas setting at barely open, and to get used to the whooshing sound as you use it. After scorching a few feet of garden hose and wilting one peony that was too close to the brick patio where we were torching weeds, we got the hang of it! It is a two-person task: one to light the torch & move around the propane tank, while the other person gets to kill weeds.

I tried different tanks with the same result. I have an older one that "truely" shoots fire. I did notice that the new one has a thinner hose. Not sure if that's the difference or it's a bad hose end that's playing with the safety feature of the propane tank. Either way ... I connect my old one and it shoots fire. I connect this Lincoln torch and it barely flows.
