may a 12/3 extension cord be used by cutting and splicing to the live end kit so the track lighting can be plugged into an outlet instead of being hard wired.
Asked by: creativemind
I believe the end is designed for solid wire connections. If you tin the ends with solder then make a small bend or hook in the wires they should hold well under the screws. Insurance companies do not like permanent extension cords. If you are using the track for temporary lighting, and not a permanent installation that is acceptable. If permanent, it should be hard wired with Romex, BX, or MC type cable.

What am I getting? The photo shows an elongated live end that plugs into the END of the track, but the video shows an entirely different twist-and-turn item that's square and involves a cover for an electrical box for a previous ceiling light. My track will be along the 2" bottom edge of an exposed 2-4 horizontal cross beam under a vaulted ceiling.

I agree! I watched the video hoping to be able to confirm the wire configuration on the "live end power feed kit" but the video shows an entirely different Power Feed connector!! FRUSTRATING.

Is this connector rated to have 2 wires feed into it? I am looking for the specifications. We installed track lighting in our basement but it failed final electrical inspection because our electritian connected 2 wires to it for some of the tracks instead of using a separate junction box.
Asked by: smp7676
Thank you TheProfessor! I am having the electritian come back and put in junction boxes. He was able to fit 2 wires into the end to avoid having extra things on my ceiling since we have an exposed ceiling. But will take safety over aesthetics any day. Thank you for your detailed answer.
