I have a split level home and a bathroom above the basement level. Can I install this unit on the basement floor? It will only have to pump 7 to 8 ft. I’m concerned with odors only. My current unit is vented into the drain system.
Asked by: Buck
The entire waste system within a home needs to be vented back to the plumbing stack that goes up through the roof. This includes every item on the system. Odors are the least of your worries. Within sewer gas are other potentially lethal gases. As water moves through the system it will cause the air and other gases to also move. So that they do not get pushed into the home, for every drain line there must be corresponding vent line that takes this gas back to the stack where it is vented out the roof to the atmosphere.

can this pump be buried outside ? Does it have to discharge up ?
Asked by: BillM
The code in my state would not allow this to be installed outdoors as our winters are to cold but I am sure other states and inspectors might view it differently. I would run the application by either a qualified local contractor or the code endorsement person in your area. The discharge of this unit is our the top, Once you come out of the unit you could elbow and pump horizontally. In northern climates such as mine, I have a buried cement tank that acts as my pump chamber. The pump inside pumps horizontally out of the chamber to the sewer main. From there the system works on gravity.

Can this particular pump be used under the sink of a wet bar? Sink will also be used to dispose small amounts of food.
Asked by: Joe
In my experience you could but it seems a little excessive but then again I am not looking at the job directly. This ejector package is designed to be installed under the floor and has a 4" inlet so it can handle a toilet. Over sizing sewage ejectors can be almost as bad a under sizing them. I would have your plumber look at the application as they may suggest something a little more appropriate based on the specifics. By over sizing pumps they don't work "less hard" and last longer.
