Would this handle pumping a 1800sq ft house with 2 1/2 baths to a septic tank with a 2.5’ head and 25’ run?

Asked by: WC
I will attempt to answer your question two ways. First, Will it? If you open the spec sheet under "info and guides" on the Home Depot product listing page you will find the pump curve on the second page. If you look carefully you will see that at 0-5' of lift, usually referred to as head, this pump will move roughly 110 gallons per minute. That should be more than enough capacity. However now lets move on to the second part of my answer. Should it? Meaning is this what I would do if i were in your situation. And there answer is no. Don't misunderstand me, I like Little Giant and I use there product. However I would not use a system like this to service an entire house. One bath in a house,? Sure, but not an entire house,. All pumps and float switches wear out, and I would not want to deal with a chamber full of waste every-time that happened. Further the health department and plumbing inspector in my town would not accept this type of system as part of a sewer plan. But I live in an area with very strict codes. What I would do and they would require is what is called a duplex system. There would be two pumps that would alternate. When a pump failed I could then use the working pump to empty the chamber to get at the broken pump. Further I would use a larger chamber which would allow me to set the floats such that the pumps were always under water and I simply cleared the water above them. By keeping the pumps constantly submerged you greatly increase there life and dependability. I would also use a high water alarm and a control panel; rather than piggy back floats. t Would this be a lot more money. Yes but as the system is servicing an entire house I would think it would be worth it versus dealing with the inevitable. It has been my experience that the dependability of a sewage pumping station is directly related to how well designed it is. A system that is not well thought out will prove to be very frustrating.

due to orientation of the inlet hole, my discharge and vent is 180'' from where i need it to be. what do i use to make a new 4'' inlet connection in the other side of the pit?
Asked by: dan
Obviously I can not see the application so I am going on what I envision based on your description. From that I must say I would not cut a new entrance hole into the tank. I would spin the unit around 180 degrees so that your pipe lined up with the entrance. Then I would use fittings to appropriately offset the vent and discharge or choose a sewage ejection package that lined up better to my existing situation. The reason is as follows. First I question if you would be able to cut a whole in the tank and seal the pipe properly and a bulk head fitting to modify the tank is not made. More importantly the location of the entrance in relation to the orientation of the pumps inlet was designed into this product. By moving the entrance the solids will not land on the pump and they will be further away from the entrance to the pumps volute. I understand that fittings offer resistance but that is my recommendation based on experience. I also confirmed this with an engineer at the factory.

I had to reconfigure piping inside pit for side discharge. So that it would be below ground and not freeze in the winter.
