Can I use this as a gravity overflow for my water softener? It is hopefully never used (Only if ...

Answer

Sorry but knowing nothing about you water softener I cannot speak intelligently about if this is a good application for this pump. However as to your second question. Pumps are rated on a graph called a pump curve. On one axis is the flow rate and on the other are heights. The graph or curve illustrates the pumps performance at all these different points. If you look under the header “Info and Guides” on the Home Depot product listing page you will find a PDF of the specification sheet. The pump curve is in this document. On one end of the curve you will see that this unit will pump 80 gallons per hour when pumping horizontally; not fighting gravity. Distance is not relevant as it is insignificant in limiting the pumps flow relative to gravity. On the other end of the curve you will find the pump dead heads at 20’. This means that when the pump is moving water vertically 20’ flow rate drops to zero. Think of it this way. If this pump were trying to move water over a 20’ high wall, it would be able to get the water column to the top of the wall but all the pumps energy would be used to lift it and it would not be able to get any water over the wall. The best practice is to select a pump where the application falls near the center of the curve. Chris 978 651 3301

Does this have a 240V 3 pin plug on the end of the electrical cord? I have a 240V 3 pin receptacle.

Yes, it has a 3 blade 15A 250V NEMA 6-15P USA format plug on a 6' cord. Search NEMA 6-15P online to see a plug image.

No you can not plug a 115 volt pump into 230 or vise versa.

does the 230 volt pump need a dedicated line and it's own circuit breaker? or, can it be wired in...

Answer

Condensate pumps are such small appliances with limited current draw that at first glance it seems to make no sense why they would make produce them in this higher voltage. Well here is why. Many larger furnaces, AC units or air handlers draw so much current that they are manufactured in 230 volts. Further, to make installation easier some of these units have a place to wire the condensate pump to. By doing this the contractor does not have to run a separate 120 volt circuit for the pump. I will assume have already deduced this. What I can not tell you is if this is appropriate in your specific situation as i am not on site and do not know the codes in your state.

Does the unit come with the electrical cable to connect to the furnace?

Yes this has a cord for connection to the power source. As most if not all AC units need a condensate pump and as many of them are 230 volts some have places where you can wire a 230 volt condensate pump. A condensate pump does not require that much voltage but as the unit is often 230 volt is saves the installer from having to run a separate 115 volt leg or running the cord exposed to an outlet.

what is the difference between this 230 volt pump and a 115 volt pump

I think there is no difference, only depends on the connection you have for it. I had 230v, don’t know why but it was there.
