Loctite Naval Jelly Rust Dissolver is the original rust treatment formula that has been used for over 25 years. It removes rust from metal surfaces such as iron and steel. Loctite Naval Jelly Rust Dissolver can be applied on metal surfaces by brushing or spraying. The Loctite 16 oz. Naval Jelly Rust Dissolver features a low-VOC formula that is water soluble to help provide easy cleanup. The rust dissolver works in as little as 5 - 10 minutes for quick and convenient performance.

Thank you for the question. The Loctite Naval Jelly Rust Dissolver is not classified as environment safe. This product contains Phosphoric acid which has moderate acute and chronic toxicity to aquatic life in waters of low alkalinity. Large quantities should not be allowed to spill or enter the water system. Loctite does not recommend using or putting this product in septic systems. Product would need to be thoroughly neutralized with fresh clean water beforehand. Please refer to the products material Safety Data Sheet

Will this work ok on chrome auto parts that have tinges of rust on them? I'm not so worried about...

Believe it or not, kerosene works on chromed steel when the rust is light. I use it all the time on my motorcycle wheels and it never fails me.

No, this product should not be used on rubber. The Loctite Naval Jelly Rust Dissolver can only be used on ferrous metals such as steel and iron. This product will cause damage to non-ferrous metals which may not be reversible. Non-ferrous metals include aluminum, brass, copper, nickel, tin, lead, and zinc, as well as precious metals like gold and silver.

The Loctite® Naval Jelly® Rust Dissolver removes rust from metal surfaces such as iron, steel and other ferrous metals. Do not use on aluminum, chrome, stainless steel, cement, fiberglass, marble, plastics or painted surfaces. It is not suitable for long term protection of surfaces. Product is not a rust preventer and should be protected with a clear coating or primed & painted within 24 hours of application. It is not compatible with latex topcoats.

The best experience in my visit and the purchase of that product to remove the rust was with the gentle salesman who guided me and helped me understand more about the product, such as that at the end I must apply a layer of varnish or silicone to make it more effective and durable.
