Will this bond parachute fabric to plastic umbrella type material?

Asked by: Magoo
It is possible, but you should test the application first before attempting the project with these materials.

I've used contact cement and it lasts maybe a couple of weeks and must be redone. But that's longer than this Loctite lasted, it barely held a day.

No. Adhesion to polypropylene requires surface activation. See for instance:https://www.homedepot.com/p/Loctite-2g-Plastics-Bonding-System-681925/100371829

Vinyl, Fabric and Plastic 1 fl. oz. Flexible Adhesive is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Repair air mattress I had a pin hole in my Coleman double air mattress which caused it to deflate overnight. I found the puncture hole using the water immersion method. Then I dried the mattress, rubbed some 70% alcohol on the small area and let that dry thoroughly. I applied a drop of Loctite Vinyl, Fabric & Plastic flexible Adhesive to the spot, quickly spread it out a little and let it dry 12 hours. I applied a 2nd layer of this adhesive and let that dry 12 hours. I did this until I had 4 coats of adhesive. After 24 hours I inflated the mattress and the repair held just fine. This adhesive bonds extremely well. Problem solved!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best over-the-counter vinyl adhesive on the market I use this product for my business ... gluing together PVC/vinyl wallets. It is hands-down the best solvent cement I've found for gluing vinyl. It has the perfect viscosity - not too thick/not too runny ... easy to use. Sets quick, dries fast, clear and flexible and is strong-strong-strong ... ubelievably strong. The only thing that would make this product better (for the one-time users) is to put a pointed applicator in with the packaging to help control the application. I use a syringe and a small 22 gauge plastic-tip applicator for my business. Oh, and I wish it came in a much larger size also ... I use 3-4 tubes per week.

However, when I tried to make a footprint out of tarp, it did not work. The product dries relatively quickly (2-3 hours). Do not use sparingly and follow directions gluing both sides. It is flexible once dry and that was my main requirement so I am happy. Cons: 1. The package is too small. Buy more than you need. Wish it came in a bigger size. It is so thin the stuff runs out without squeezing the tube and then it is gone before you realize the tube is empty in the middle of the project without warning so get more than you need. 2. Protect anything you don't want ruined. I used wax paper to protect the surfaces nearby and to cover the glued portions before I put a heavy box on it to dry. It sticks to your hands as well and ladies, I'll bet it ruins some painted nail surfaces (like getting silicon caulking off your hands). I was disappointed it did not bond tarp to tarp as I was told it would work (Yet by using wax paper above and below I was able to complete the tarp footprint by gently ironing to fuse tarp to tarp.) Overall, I'm glad I got it and pleased with what it did do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I purchased this after noticing in my 15-year old leather couch some cracking in the non-leather(... I purchased this after noticing in my 15-year old leather couch some cracking in the non-leather(vinyl) sections between the seats in the hope that this would repair the cracking and prevent it from getting worse and more noticeable. I would suggest that this type of vinyl repair is for certain types of jobs versus the other types of vinyl repair kits. In this case, I was not worried about how this would look since the cracking is occurring between the seating and the cracks are not visible. Although this is a clear glue, this will make the area a bit shiny versus what the normal material looks like. If you are needing something more aesthetically pleasing, I would suggest using a vinyl repair kit that also has a color matching gel that you can put over the crack to help the repair blend in. Also, you need to be careful on vertical cracks as this does tend to run a bit and you have to watch from putting too much and it dripping or running down into an area you don’t want. I found that using my finger to apply made it easier to do without causing a mess. It wasn’t too difficult to get off my finger afterwards. Also, in my case, I had to find something (I ended up using a couple empty plastic bottles) to keep the seating spread apart long enough for the glue to dry, which takes approximately 30 minutes. So far, the repairs have held up and there has been no further cracking. This works fine for my purpose. Depending on the job you have and how you want it to look, this works fine, but if you want the repair to blend in, then you may need a color repair kit instead. 4 stars

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware Use with caution. Another reviewer suggested this glue to rehem and glue a vinyl roller shade, it melted and bubbled my shade, terrible result.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I have not found this to be a reliable adhesive for the purposes stated. I've tried this glue on a number of products. The ones that didn't work are the ones that stuck out in my head. 1. I tried to glue a flexible plastic sole to a rigid plastic shoe. The bond did not hold, and the sole disappeared forever at some point during the one night I wore the shoe. 2. I tried to use it to hem a pair of shorts (cotton/polyester/spandex blend). This bond is also coming undone, and it peels right up if I pull on it gently. In retrospect, I cannot think of one thing that I have successfully glued with this adhesive. I probably will be searching for a different plastic/fabric glue the next time around.
