18 in. Black Carbon Steel Stovetop Griddle with Handles

We just came back from a long weekend outing with family. While the cabin we stayed in had a complete kitchen, we always cook breakfast and dinner outdoors, whether on a grill or a skillet. In the past I have always used a large cast iron skillet for cooking breakfast and thought this would be great for that purpose. It did work out very well, as bacon is much easier to fry in a rectangle griddle than in a round skillet, especially when you cook for a large group (30 people), as I was doing. Of course over this weekend, we also cooked eggs and sausage on different days for breakfast and it worked out well for that also. We cooked steaks on one occasion over a campfire and they did well on it. One thing I have to say about the quality is that one corner was not welded smoothly and snagged the washing sponge when you cleaned it. Also, keep in mind that it is shallower than a skillet, so the grease from bacon builds up in it. While it didn’t keep me from frying 5# of bacon each day, the grease will splash if you drop the bacon too quickly in it. Just be careful with that. As you can see from the pictures, it fit very nicely on a 3 burner camping stove. Our fire pit had a grate on it, there were no issues with it over the campfire. It was very easy to clean and the food did not stick since it was already seasoned. I am very happy with this and look forward to using it again.

The label (see photo) conjures up images of fresh-caught trout simmering attractively over an open wood-burning campfire…..BUT, we’ve put this just-in-time-for Father’s Day; heavy (and heavy-duty!); high quality; Lodge (Tennessee-made since 1896) griddle through the paces on our more-convenient backyard natural gas grill with impressive results. Unlike some new cast-iron, this is already “seasoned” with Lodge’s easy-release finish. It’ll just get better and better as its hand-washed, dried and rubbed with cooking oil. This might be the highest quality griddle I’ve ever used ....it's actually heirloom quality! It’s a longggg summer ahead. Now we’re all set to keep the heat out of the kitchen!

The Lodge 18 inch Carbon Steel Griddle has to be the heftiest griddle I have ever come acrossed. The handles are solidly riveted to the griddle and the welds at the corners are perfect! The griddle comes already seasoned so upon arrival you are good to go! This type of cookware requires to dry completely after washing. Then just wipe with a tiny bit of vegetable oil to keep it ready for the next use. I have used the griddle both indoors and outside on my bar b q. I am glad I got this griddle and I do recommend it.

This is probably the heaviest griddle I have ever had, well made and definitely won't break! The two handles on each side make it easy to carry and remove from fire. However they will be hot so be sure to wear pot holders on your hands. The griddle heats up fast so be sure to watch what you are cooking. I seasoned with oil first so nothing stuck to the griddle. I used it on my grill and my son used it over camp fire, both worked very well. Definitely pleased with this griddle.

This Lodge 18 in. Carbon Steel Griddle is excellent in every way and we recommend it. If you are interested please read on and we will share our first hand experience with it in detail. It arrived well packed and in perfect condition. We are impressed by the heft and excellent craftsmanship of this griddle. The body of the griddle is expertly welded, flat, smooth and engraved on both sides (see photos). The handles are heavy and attached with large steel rivets. We are pleased it fits our indoor cook top and our outdoor grill perfectly (see photos). What impresses us most however is how great this griddle cooks. It arrived perfectly seasoned and nothing sticks to it, even the very first time we used it. It cooks very evenly with no hot spots. It is designed with inwardly slanted sides, perfect for serious cooking. This is a griddle we will use daily indoor and outdoors. It will last a life time.

The griddle is warped, with a low point right in the middle. I planned to use it with my induction stove - it heats up great and is the perfect size, but is unusable on the stove because it will spin with the slightest touch. It’s going to be used for cooking over a camp fire, but that’s it.
