In the list on the main page for this ladder it says: "Fits ceilings 10 ft. to 12 ft. 9 in. high". Is this really true. Turns out that my garage ceiling is exactly 12'9", and this is the ONLY ladder I have found for which rhe accompanying information says it will work with a 12'9" ceiling height. All other suppliers either want an arm and a leg to "specially" prepare a ladder for me or they just say "sorry, you'll just have to build a little 9" platform. So, is this statement that it qorks for 12'9" ceilings too good to be true, or is it really true?
Asked by: Frank
It's true. The application I used it for was 12' 3" and I had to cut 6" off of it.

Does this come standard with the easy pull stick ? Or standard rope pull ?

Asked by: Greg
It is shipped with a metal pole to open the ladder. Do to the length of this ladder you will need to use a step ladder along side to safely unfold the sections.

Can this ladder be used for a loft that the ladder would be mounted on a vertical wall instead of in the ceiling? if not, what ladder would you recommend?
Asked by: Will
No, it can't be mounted on a wall. Has to be mounted in a ceiling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy installation instructions harder to deploy For the most part I believe everyone that purchases this system will feel secure on it. The steps of the ladder feel comfortable with the exception of the steps that have the door under them. Your toes hit against the insulation panel mounted on the attic side of the door which might take some getting used to. The deployment is hard because of the length of the ladder being 12 feet. A second person is required to avoid damaging the unit when the folding part is pulled down. Gravity and its weight make it come down with force so you have to be ready on the floor while your assistant is on a step ladder unfolding the stowed sections. It works well deploying it according to instructions. A clothesline and a pulley may make this a one person operation. All in all this is a good product that will make throwing a ladder everytime you need in the attic unneccessary.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Attic Ladder Made in Mexico I have 11' ceilings and needed an attic ladder. There seemed to only be a few options available on the market and this was one of them (not the cheapest - hoping to get a little better quality). The biggest issue I had was that the first and second time I recieved this ladder they were damaged (it did not look like it was from shipping the first time - it was an open and re-taped box with a bashed up ladder inside). To took 3 months to recieve a less damaged ladder on the 3rd try. You will need to know a little about construction to install this ladder. It is similar to installing a pre-hung door but with higher complexity due to the heavy ladder and gravity. The ladder I installed was not square and I needed to adjust the frame installation to match the ladder / hinges instead of making it square. If you take this on, realize this could be the reality. On mine, the hinge seemed to be installed onto the ladder a little crooked causing the whole ladder to be slightly rotated. At the opposite end, it was off by 3/8".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One the better attic ladders . attic ladders to install are not as easy like in the videos. I had a carpenter and friend install it. You really need two people and two ladders. I had to special order this ladder due to height of ceiling. Make sure you double check all specs before ordering your ladder. I have had three ladders installed in my lifetime. I would say that Louivile Everest has been so far the best quality. Very well built, quality of raw materials, and design. Home Depot was also great with quick service and communication on this special order. Will special order thru Home Depot again. Thank You, Making a foreclosure home our family home.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from well built ladder - good price - free shipping I installed this in my new garage - job went well but please note - do not make your ceiling (rough) opening until you have received the ladder and can measure it for the actual size opening you will need! My ladder frame was not the size as advertised and waiting until I could measure it saved a lot of shimming. Another 'reviewer' noted this so mine was not an exception. My ceiling is 13'-3" high so I had to build a "box" of 3/4" plywood to 'lower' the installed height to 12'. Plywood box is fastened to the ceiling joists/headers w/ 1/4" bolts - same for the ladder frame to the plywood. Instructions w/ the ladder advise that you need 2 people (read 1 and 1 w/ very strong arms) and a step ladder to lower the ladder for use - I don't have have that option so I have installed a pulley & 1/4" nylon rope that works safely & easily to lower & raise the ladder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love this ladder. Installation took about 2 hours and does require 2 people. I don't know why other reviews say that it requires two people to unfold the ladder for use, because I always open it by myself and without a step ladder. I had to shorten the ladder to fit my ceiling height and the kit includes anti-slip feet to bolt on after trimming to length which makes for a clean finish! Definitely recommmend. The only negative is the door is made from thin plywood.

The ease of installation , cost, and sturdiness all go out the window when you attempt to raise or lower the second and third stages of the ladder. Using a step ladder is a poor gamble and passes liability to the user of the step ladder. A person must reach up approx. 8 ft grab the ladder and swing a four foot piece of heavy ladder away from your step ladder position. Ive called manufacturer to ask why would you include a pole to pull down on plywood cover (which is bolted to ceiling) yet allow the heaviest part of ladder to come down with no protective restraint with the potential to hit the operator in the head. The man I spoke to was extremely rude and indifferent and his final solution was to get two people to operate. My only reason for the call was to protect consumer from potential injury and all other concerned parties from potential Liability deaf ears

If you follow the instructions, getting the ladder adjusted to the correct height in the opening is difficult and the person on the bottom needs to be very strong. I suggest using the technique in the Werner installation. I would have bought the Werner, but they do not offer a model over 10' for 24" framing. They do not supply the recommended fasteners for final installation (1/4 x 3 lag screws). The packaging was weak and the box was damaged in shipping, but the ladder was OK. Parts tumbled out when I opened the box. After installation I was pleasantly surprised how strong and stable the ladder is. It is now comfortable to climb the 10' into the attic. The hand rails are an upgrade from previous attic ladders that I have used. The installation was a challenge for a competent DIY guy. If you are not experienced at installation, get a professional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent ladder for the price! Recently purchased this ladder to be used in our garage for overhead storage. Garage ceiling height was 11 feet so we needed something tall and sturdy. This ladder fits the bill and it is lightweight to boot! Installation was not difficult with two people but we used a sheetrock hoist to lift the ladder into place which helped a lot. Ladder is very strudy and the handrails are a nice touch. Unfolding / storing the ladder can be difficult as the other reviews state but it helps that I am 6'4". A step ladder should be used to unfold and refold the ladder which some might argue defeats the purpose, but we don't plan on using this ladder that often which reduces the severity of the issue. Overall a great ladder for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Great product! Easy to install, but definitely needs two people (three might be even easier). Very solid workmanship and stable-feeling ladder. Strong springs and tight door fit in its frame. Glad to have a good quality ladder to finally use my attic for more storage!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Aluminum ladder is strong/sturdy - very adequate for occasional use Just finished installation. Have been up and down it many times to create a big attic storage space for car parts and seasonal items. It is stable and sturdy when fully extended with the feet squarely on the floor. Good value ladder system that works well at 12 foot height. Be aware that you can reach and open the pull down door with the provided pole. However, to unfold (and to re-fold) the bottom 2 ladder sections you have to be on a step ladder. This could be difficult for a smaller person to do alone. Any high ceiling pull down ladder would be the same. Was able to install myself from above using hoist in attic with nylon straps as a sling to lift into framed opening. Take care to use the shimming process described in the instructions to get the plywood door squarely aligned for fully closing in the frame. The hinge end is critical to getting it all aligned. I had to redo. Safe installation from below at 12 foot height would require 2 people on ladders, or a scaffold, or drywall hoist to lift into the opening. I used construction adhesive to retain the insulation pieces that fit between the ladder and the plywood door. They have tendency to slide out and block the full closing of the door

The curse part was made worse while shopping for and attic ladder. I purchased this model after reading the reviews and was concerned with the build quality, I had no quality issues, this ladder was shipped and delivered by parcel service. The box had some dents and holes but when I opened it everything was in there and undamaged. I installed this as a one man job, it can be done, just make sure you've planned it out. The construction of the frame is pine, as others mentioned. It feels rickety until it's installed and shimmed. I used lag bolts and pre-drilled the frame to prevent it from splitting. The installation instructions were good, my issue is with the functionality of the design. After getting it secured in the rough opening, I opened from the attic. This is folding model, there's some serious unfolding to do here. I adjusted the lower section length, which resulted in a rung being removed, not a problem using a reciprocating saw and the leg ends installed perfectly. But issue is unfolding and folding the ladder, it can;t be done standing on the floor. I need a ladder to operate the ladder! I'm not short (6'2") ; when I pull the door open, I can't get close to the ladder to unfold it while standing on the floor, I literally have to use a step ladder to get high enough to grab it to unflold and fold it. It's a little late to return it so I'll live with it, but I'm not satisfied. A sliding ladder would have been a better choice for my application but I didn't anticipate this problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Returned this junk to the Store the same afternoon I got it! When I opened the box the frame was broken. The (cheap) corner staples came loose, I could have fixed it myself but decided not to because that was not the big problem with this very poor quality product. The ladder was so miss-assembled it would not open. The hand safety railing stopped the latter from unfolding because it was in the wrong location ( it blocked the folding arm from moving). This made in Mexico attic ladder had terrible quality, they must not include any QC inspection at the factory. How this got out of the factory door is a shock to me. I am very disappointed and you may be too. I wasted a lot of time and energy on this Louisville Attic Ladder. However, thanks to Home Depot I got my money back. HORRAY for Home Depot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for boat house Installed the 14' version of this about 12 years ago and am getting a replacement since the salt water has rusted the main hinge connecting ladder to door. When builder originally installed ladder, he attached a pulley to lower section with a cord so I can raise and lower it myself easily with the help of a boat hook. Am hoping Louisville Ladder folks can send me a 2' extension piece since the longest attic ladder they make is 12'!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A product that meets the requirements This ladder should have been installed when our house was built, but the builder told us that he had installed the longest attic ladder available. Our garage ceiling is 11'7" high and the standard ladder is 10'. The only drawback that I can see is there should be a pole, or something that would allow you to put the ladder back up into the ceiling. They do provide a hook to get it down, but it's a trial to get it put back, once down.

The aluminum ladder is of good construction and feels sturdy but the wooden frame appears substandard and doesn't seem very strong. However, as long as the frame is anchored well and mounted/shimmed square into the overhead rafter beams, it becomes very sturdy and then there won't be any issue. Recommend drilling holes in the wooden frame for the nails or bolts that are used to secure it in place so the wood does not split. Good product overall.
