Questions & Answers

how to load this grease gun

It says it uses the standard 3" grease cartridge, but that will not fit in this gun. The OD of the gun is 1 1/4" and the OD of the cartridge is also 1 1/4". The ID of tube on this grease gun is 1 1/16". Won't fit. I tried everything I could think of. I folded over the cartridge to get it in, but it would only go in as far as the fold. Just would not work. I have tried to find a cartridge that had an OD of 1/16", but can't find one. Any tip on how to get this to work?

On Home Depots page for the Lucas Miniature Grease Gun, scroll down to Product Reviews. Just off to the right You'll see a heading titled "Info & Guides". Underneath click on "Use and Care Manual", that will give you a pdf copy of User Instructions that are very easy to read with excellent illustrations and extremely clear pictures.

Mini Grease Gun is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 80.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't listen to these people! Easy to use and works great. This grease gun works just fine. It seems to me everybody who gave this product one star has never used a grease gun before. Every grease gun I've ever used loads and operates the same, including this one. It's definitely not more difficult. Assembly couldn't be easier also, choose the flex tube or ridged tube, thread it on to the head and your done. To insert the grease, pull back the plunger and lock it, remove the plastic cap from the grease tube and slide it into the grease gun, remove the foil cover on the grease tube and thread the head of the grease gun onto the body but leave it loose, release the plunger and push it all the way into the gun, squeeze the handle a couple times to purge the air, once grease starts coming out tighten it up and your good to go. If you ever get an air pocket, unscrew the head of the grease gun a half turn, squeez the handle a couple times to purge the air, tighten it up and your back in business. Easy right?? For $10 this thing is great. No problems or complaints.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Constant problem I bought this mini-greasegun to take on the road. It has been nothing but an aggravation. The problem seems to be air pockets that prevent grease from being extruded. After wasting 2 cartridges and ending up with the same problem, I took the gun back to Home Depot and talked to one of the employees and explained my problem. He admitted grease guns could be tempermental and he took out the problem cartridge and popped in a new one. After a couple minutes, he had the same problem. Then he got a fresh gun and loaded a fresh cartridge. That worked so I took that gun back home and thought my problem was a fluke. Well . . . I got home and greased the first zerk without a problem. Then I went to the second one and . . . BAM . . . another air pocket. I pumped that thing 50 - 80 times thinking I could force the air out and get on with my task, but it wouldn't work. I have a full size gun at home and I've never had this happen, so I'm blaming the Mini-gun. Maybe it's the cartridges. Whatever, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Directions included less than desired, so took off one star. Directions downloaded from this site are a little clearer. First time users should watch a couple of YouTube vids. Loaded fine. Need to loosen the coupler tip if can’t get on or off the zerk fitting. Was almost put off by negative reviews but then noticed most grease guns got many negative reviews, likely due to inexperience. Not the most complicated device, but there are a few critical procedures to be followed.

However, the grease gun was relatively simple to load and got the job done. I have not noticed any leaking, but I have only owned it for a few weeks. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase.
