Questions & Answers

Is the delay until off time adjustable? If not what is the delay until off time? Thanks.

Asked by: Huck
does the light remain on as long as there is motion, even past the delay time?

Can we replace the rocker switch with Lutron

I could not find the manual
Asked by: uday
Absolutely. Whether you have the big rocker switch or the old style toggle switch, it will physically fit. The internal body of the switch fits the normal electrical box in the wall. The only change would be if you had a toggle switch before, you'll just need to get a rocker face plate. A few cents to a few dollars.

Lights switch stays on.

I had installed it and it was working fine but now it stays on and it can not be controlled with the switch. I tried controlling it manually but it doesn’t respond. I tried installing a new one but it stays on as well and doesn’t respond when pressing the button. Any advice? All wires look good.
Asked by: Lio
Is there possibly a second switch for the same light that has changed position? Or are you over loading the switch so much that it is failing in a permanent on state? Or possibly more likely that there is something moving in the room that is triggering it on all the time.

Then I read the fine print and discovered it must a ground wire connection. That makes sense because it uses a trickle of electricity to run the motion sensor. A 2-wire connection creates an all or nothing current through the switch. This uses the ground as a neutral path for the trickle to run through. They should put this on the label. I haven't completed the installation because it has turned into a much bigger project to run wires under the house (because the attic has been enclosed so access to the top is limited) and tie into a work box for the ground. I'll get to it someday.

The default motion sensitivity is just right. Brought this so my 3 yrs old can enter bathrooms without having to turn on lights manually. Due to the height of the switch mount, it doesn't sense my 3 yrs old entering sometimes. No issues picking up my motion when I enter. It's nice to be able to manually turn on or off when necessary (or in the case of having guests not knowing it can turn on and off automatically). It's easy to adjust timeout delay. 5 minutes default is too short for my household and it was easy to adjust by pressing and hold the main switch button. The ambient light sensitivity is not great but it could be due to the small window in the bathroom not allowing enough ambient light in. Installation was easy and straightforward. Lutron Claro 1 Gang Decorator Wallplate works really well with this motion switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Switch with Excellent Features! I just finished installing the switch. It was very easy and the directions for setting the options, sensitivity, timeout and occupancy mode is straight forward and easy. Most people will be happy with the default settings (timeout 5 min), auto on/off. The other feature on this switch is that it can detect if it is daylight and it will not turn on the light, however, this feature is not turned on by default and you would have to select that option after install. This switch also is modern and works with all the different light standards, LED, CFL ect.. It makes a clicking noise letting you know that it activated and my light comes on instantly! It replaced another popular manufactures switch which did not work worth a darn. I believe Lutron to be a great manufacture of lighting products and the fact that this switch states it works with all the different light types is probably why it is performing so well with my florescent light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value, easy to install, very user friendly! I am an electrical contractor & have used the Lutron Maestro sensor for residential room occupancy and walk-in closets. I installed multiple brands and models of occupancy sensors in a medical facility for the staff to try. Each room had a different one and I left them during a trial period so that the owner could receive feedback from employees and management. The Lutron Maestro was the choice of the entire staff as the most efficient & nicest looking, and ended up being the only model used throughout. (I removed & replaced the other brands & models. Some others weren't compatible with fluorescents.) The Maestros are easy to install, and quick to program. They were used mostly with fluorescent light fixtures, which started immediately and had no flicker or buzzing. Also a huge plus is the Maestro was the 2nd least expensive, losing only to another brand offered in a discounted 2-pack. I will be suggesting the Maestro over other sensors I have recommended to customers in the past. Some programming requires the removal of the faceplate to access a small tab, but this is the only slight con there is.

I installed it in a small bedroom and a bathroom. If you come into the room and keep moving the unit works fine. The problem I have is that if I lay in bed or sit in the bathroom, the switch turns the light off. I have to get up and wave my arms to get light again. In a few minutes I have to do it again! Major annoyance...There's no way to bypass the motion detection and keep the light on. I have a different motion switch installed in another room in my house which allows you to bypass the auto shutoff and keep the light on. I recommend that you look for this feature in a motion switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Switch! I chose this switch for my master bedroom walk-in closet. There is a flourescent light in the room, so that's why I chose this switch. Apparently, many other switches will not work with fluorescents. This thing activates the second we walk into the closet. Then there are different modes that will keep the switch on for varying amounts of time. I chose one minute, so it shuts off one minute after we leave the room. It really comes in handy at night time when walking around. We can wave our hand in the closet to activate the light and then safely find our way back to bed with the light. One minute later, the light goes out. I plan to buy another for the kid's bathroom because getting them to turn off the light after they leave that room is a losing battle.
