Does one button control dimmer and other control fan speed?

The MSCL-VP153M is a vacancy only sensor dimmer. It has a manual on and automatic off feature. It is rated for 150W of compatible LED/CFL or 600W incandescent/halogen. Lutron does not recommend using this with a fan motor.

For a 3-way installation, where two switching locations operate the same lighting load, only one MSCL-VP153M could be installed. The second location would have to be either a standard 3-way mechanical switch or the companion dimmer (model number MA-R). Having two of the MSCL-VP153M installed on a 3-way would create performance issues for the controls and lighting load. You can view an illustration of the 3-way wiring with a mechanical switch here: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/368-4493_Page_10.pdf; and an illustration of the 3-way wiring with companion dimmer here: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/368-4493_Page_9.pdf.

Answer

The MSCL-VP153M-WH is a vacancy-only device that does not have auto-on capability. The MSCL-OP153MH-WH has the ability to be programmed for either auto-on or manual-on. The MSCL-VP153M was created to satisfy Title 24 requirements in California. You can view all of the programming features for the Maestro occupancy sensor dimmer by viewing the advanced install guide here: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/048480a.pdf.

According to the documentation from Lutron, you should be able to set a lower lighting level for night use by using the default Preset or programmable function. It looks like it can be set to turn on as low as the first level on the dimmer. I am confused with Lutron's reply though, they said it can be programmed to a preset light level or an unlocked preset when it is turn on manually. Then they state this specific model can only be turned on manually. Why say "when it is turned on manually" if it can only be turned on manually?

Hasn't been good
The light rarely, if ever, turns off when the room is unoccupied. I have taped over 80% of the sensor, still the light stays on. There is nothing moving or changing light in the room. Now, I decided to save energy by getting LEDs. The light does not work -- the LEDs continuously flash when off, and will not turn on either (just flash). I have other model Lutron motion detecting switches and dimmers which work fine with the same LEDs, so it is something about this type or this individual unit.

Motion sensor for OFF only
This does NOT turn the light(s) on using motion you HAVE to press the button to turn the lights on, lights will turn off automatically when you leave the room/sensor area. It does not have a setting to turn an "auto on" feature on or off because it does not have that feature. I am VERY annoyed they even made this model I can't think of any reason anyone would want this model the whole point of motion sensor switches is so you never have to touch the switch after install and setup/programming. One star for not clearly and often in BIG BOLD letters telling people it will not turn lights on automatically when motion is sensed. Five stars because what its suppose to do it does great it works flawlessly. So 2.5 stars and I rounded up. No on recommend because I just can't envision anybody customer or friend (I'm an electrician) asking for a switch you have to touch to turn lights on but not when you leave. They do make other motion sensor switches that you have the option to manually force the light(s) to stay on until you manually shut them off but also with a motion On/Off feature I sell and install them all the time. This was a mistake purchase with LUTRON/Home Depot mostly to blame for not being very clear this does not turn lights on by motion.
